Yeah thats such a great name!
:) Thistles are spiky and have to be handled gently, but have such pretty flowers, plus they're a symbol for nobility in heraldry.

It must have been a difficult decision to take her in with as much time as it takes to care for her at the moment. I imagine you have to be very selective of what you can and cannot take in so it's good to see her getting the care she needs!

BABY PORCUPINE IS THE CUTEST!!!!!!!! She's just adorable. Whenever I hear the porcupine noises (look up Teddy Bear the porcupine for just major cuteness),.......I just smile. But in any case,......she's just a little cutie.

As a small scale rehab, rescuer, and foster mama (mostly small exotics) who absolutely adores hedgehogs, I don't know why it surprised me a bit how heart meltingly cute she is!

since her species is native to Kenya, the Swahili name Elimisha, which means "teaches knowledge" is super beautiful for her!
OMG she is so cute. the way she walks and how hungrily she devoured the pear and carrot actually reminds me of a kitten I once took care of for a friend. her favorite thing was to try and lick at pears when I had them. She was born a runt and was unable to suckle from her mom so I bottle fed her. She was born to my friends litter but she had no experience with newborn animals, the mother was also rejecting her (taking her from the nesting area and leaving her in the hallway or downstairs) so I was over there a lot giving her warmth and cuddles while my friend was at work or with the other cats. A few weeks later we found someone to adopt her, and all three of us tried to think of a name, eventually she responded to 'Ariel' which I think is a very pretty name, it's my suggestion, because this little porcupine reminds me of that kitten.

Little Miss Beasley. I used to love watching the Family Affair, back in the 60s & the little girl's doll was Mrs Beasley. I even named my dog after her; a female Bishon Frise, who was taken too early from her mom.

I like the non-English idea. But I'd say maybe Arabic, Bantu, Sudanese, or one of the many other African dialects from the countries in which the crested porcupine are found.

even though some of the animals have grown-up with you, and you're confident that you have a strong bond together, do you ever take a step back and be a little cautious incase the animal may attack or react in a way that it would harm you?
I think Pear would be a really cute name. She clearly liked to eat the pears you gave her, and she herself is a bit of a prickly pear after all ;)

I forgot the name. Name her Miku (Me-key-u).
I think she will be bigger in over all size (body, weight and size of quills). Though Kemosabe has a long tail that technically will make him longer.
Kemosabe likes to spend most of his time in high places, but she will not.
She will actually likely also be longer than Kemosabe, in addition to being heavier and overall larger. African crested porcupines are the second largest mammal in the world, right behind capybaras. If you haven't seen it, there is at least one video out there of an adult defending itself against a pride of lions, very impressive and fun animals to work with! I was lucky enough to work with both an African and Indian crested porcupine.

Other than that there are a lot of nice North African names, like Tasa (my favourite), Nada, Rania, or Hana?
Or just call her Apple? She likes purée and there are human beings named Apple, so why not a porcupine?
