- The cliff on the Shoulder run at Sunshine. The Shoulder is accessible by skiing under the Tee Pee Town chair and staying to your right. Take the path around to the Shoulder and stay high, the cliff is right in the middle of the run.
This was just after 123 cms of snow over 7 days and part of my tour of the cliffs at Sunshine that I hope to put online just as soon as I can figure out how to edit videos.
It's a long story, but I had cause to jump off the 2 seat chair lift at the start of this video. I dropped about 10 feet. The lifty was not sure whether to bollock me or applaud. I visited Banff twice (from England) in the 90's for a total period of four weeks and loved it. I remember that the second (and last) time was during the Nagano Olympics and "that downhill race", which we watched back at our motel. I've been lucky to ski in various parts of Europe, the US and New Zealand, but Banff holds very special memories for me. These are not just due to the great skiing, but to the kindness and hospitality of the town, the resports and the local people. It was second to none. I missed the Back Door Run whan I was there, but its looks a beaut. One day.... one day
Great story Colin. They've since replaced that chair with a high-speed, covered and heated quad. Very comfortable, but has lost some of the charm of that old double chair. I hope you get a chance to come back to Banff one day!
@@carolbilawchuk1254 Thanks Carol. Thats very kind. I'm facing a big operation sometime in the next two months (oddly enough when they might use a technique pioneered in Canada. If I pull through this I have already told myslef I will try to make it back next winter
ah the ol TEEPEE double... I miss the good ol days
I hear you. As much as I enjoy a heated chair, I enjoy no other people even more.
Amen
Thanks! The cliff is right at the top of the run. You can avoid it by either dropping in early or climbing up and around it. The path that goes up and over it can get a little precarious but the snow is usually better on the other side.
Thanks!
I think it's 30% green, 30% blue, 40% advanced. Wawa is probably your best bet for intermediate terrain.
Thanks for the ride!
Crap! I wanted to see that ski out.
Great video! Quick question for you - is the cliff drop required to finish off the Shoulder run? Was looking at doing this run but a bit afraid of the cliff drop. Any other ways down that doesnt require a drop? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!!!
Cool video! You're good! Are there many Blue trails there for intermediate skiers?
my buddy went over the knuckle not knowing there was a cliff there... tumbled his ass over and barley cleared the rocks.
Yeah I've seen that happen a couple times. You'd think they'd put up a sign or something.
That is side door not back door back is straight off wawa side is down a little from it.
Oops, left the camera on...
Nuts
errrmmm... that ain't back door...
nice air 13:43
Thanks!
"yeah that snow isn't that great" stop making excuses.
