  • A tour of the top seven runs at Lake Louise, at least those that were open in early December 2017. The runs are ER3, Paradise Cornice, ER 6 to The Kiddies, Brown Shirt First to North Cornice, C Gully, Whitehorn 1 and Tower 12.

    Brought back some fond memories from Lake Louise 08-09 Season! Recognize all the runs 👍 Not sure if you know these out of bounds ones and I'll try get the names right! Elevator Shaft: One of the thin lines that you can just see on right side of image at 4:40, perpendicular to Boomerang Bowl / Hectors Ridge. ) Then there's White Rabbit off Summit, and Semi-circular bowl + Vortex Chutes (backside off Summit)... The 08/09 Season was not great in terms of snow, but memories for a lifetime ✨ Thanks for this video, and nice 360 off the top 👌💯

    Excellant video! Thanks for taking me on runs I'll never see. Great camera work and I really enjoyed when you would pause before dropping in! My heart was racing like it was me standing there. Loved the slow motion, titling the runs and over all quality. Thanks again!

    This video has me hyped to ski out west (I’m québécois). I think the spring would be best to extend my ski season. Thanks for showing us some of the challenging runs!

      Thanks Kevin, March usually brings some pretty decent snowfall and it's not yet warm enough to be heavy. I hope you find your way out west this year!

    I think that was gully A that you were going down when your camera cut out - right when it starts to get even steeper. I skied that gully yesterday. Not like you but I did pretty well. You're a great skier!

    Way late on this, but that run on upper boomerang was actually a few yards to skier's right of Brownshirt First - basically upper Shoulder Roll. Brownshirt first is right next to the wall; you'd have to have gone a few feet past the closed gate to ski that.

    Awesome skiing!
    Question: are those Rossignol Scratches? Good to know you don’t NEED a real all mountain and a versatile park ski works!!
    Your videos were useful as a non west skier. Not trying the doubles without a local but even some of the glades are amazing. Awesome out here!

    Awesome video, thanks. Hoping to head there this Friday and these are added to the must hit. Any idea if the conditions are decent? C.O.P (Winsport Calgary) was a skating rink today.

      I haven't been there since Nov, but heard they got a good dump of snow this week. Even though I imagine only a couple of these will be open this early in the year I'm sure it'll be great, enjoy!

    Nice vids. You nailed the fall lines with great turns. Where's your crew? I would love to share a few runs with you. (Sun Peaks feb23/20 !). I was able to catch most of the same runs in 2019 with fresh. Keep the up the wonderful video's. 🍺🍺

      Thanks Joel, I've never been to Sun Peaks but have always wanted to. Feb 23rd I'll be out in Panorama, so I'm hoping to get more videos posted after that.

    Any tips for what type of ski I should get from the rental shop? Was thinking about getting some sort of vokl they say is 50 front and 50 back

    • @lopht12
      @lopht12  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you can swing it, try renting from Snowtips in Banff instead of on the mountain. They have a better selection, no lineups and are cheaper than renting on the hill. What you rent depends on how aggressive you ski, and the guys there will give you better advice than I would. www.snowtips-bactrax.com/Downhill_Skis.html Have fun!

    Seems like every video I see of this area it’s just compact snow. No pow. Are pow days few and far between up that way?

    • @lopht12
      @lopht12  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My experience is that you get probably a half dozen good pow days per year, the issue is you have to get there on the day because it gets skied off pretty fast.

    I watched some of your cliff videos at Sunshine and wasn't sure if you were winging it (after a few Hail Mary's) or were a player. I can see from this much better video, that you're a player. Twenty years ago I skied the back bowls at Banff & did some of the easier blacks, facing Larch. I've also jumped small cliffs, (about 10ft) and was taught how in Risoul (France) by a local some 20-30 years older than me. This got me thinking; if he can do it, I can do it. He taught me tree skiing too. He could also do a full 360 aerial spin while riding a button lift, something I could never bring myself to try. These days I am older now, that he was then and falling apart somewhat. I am also out of practice as sadly there is not much snow in Liverpool, England, despite my efforts (in the regenration sector) to try to get an artifical ski centre built in the city. That said I dont lack for practice in the art of honest appreciation and would like to say great work and great sking. You're a true player. and your video bought back some great memories of my favourite place to ski. ..... I hope to get back there sometime.

      @@lopht12 Spot on. I turned 20 last year, with 40 years added experience! The day before I was told, I needed a heart operation.This was made all the worse for my being "unlucky" Its faulty plumbing. I've promised myself a return to Banff next year if I pull through. See you on the back slopes!!

    If you take the other double-black entry right next to Paradise Cornice, do you know what run it leads to? Can't figure it out on the trail map.
    I was looking at Cornice from the Paradise lift and thought it looked cool, but when turning right at the top i took the other entry right next to it and ended on another face. It scared the shit out of me but i did it in one piece. I'd like to know what it was!

    • @lopht12
      @lopht12  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you didn't turn immediately right as you got off Paradise, and took the second right you probably ended up on ER6. Which is this one th-cam.com/video/dXWVSXObDpE/w-d-xo.html
      ER 6 is how you access the Kiddies (in this video) and Upper 5, which in all my time at Louise I've only seen it open once. Although it's not really steep, it is prone to slides as it's a big open sun-soaked face.
      Glad you made it out alive!

    • @theblob2k11
      @theblob2k11 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lopht12 Oh thanks, by looking at the map again it makes sense! Always hard to translate a 2D map into big open terrain. It was just my second day at Louise. All i remember is seeing the double-black-steep-rocky sign at the entrance, and that's where i got. I can manage myself, but coming from the east these things are impressive lol. There was someone in front of me and he got down in a few turns, so it gave me courage as i felt less alone haha. Great stuff i will remember.

    14:50-15:50 exactly why i dont ever ski some runs, im too fricking fat to do all that hiking, maybe 10 years and 80 pounds ago.... i prefer to fly down the mountain not hike up it

    • @lopht12
      @lopht12  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      i love the hikes because it gets you away from the crowds, and on poor snow days (like this one was) your best chance of finding at least a couple fresh turns!
