Forest is one hell of a freakin actor. He's a REAL dude, and doesn't have to fake it to make it like 99 percent of the people in hollywood. This man is legit!
One of my favorite actor ..I luv to watch any movie he acts in....but Repo Man is my favorite...I had to watch it a couple times to understand how if F' up his buddy life for sheer fun or he was jealous of his life,
It may be just me but it often seems like Gosling does not really care about awards, considering his reaction when both winning and losing. He seems like a pretty chill guy
He came right back out to accept an award for his speech. I have been watching these all afternoon and this is hands down one of the most inspirational. The look on everyone's face tells all, especially will smith and Leo dicaprio.
I spend too much time watching these acceptance speeches, but this speech was certainly worth sifting through the rest. One of the finer speeches i've heard in this life time.
He's incredible. I love this actor so much. Also can't believe James McAvoy wasn't nominated at the oscars at all. Because he was perfect in this movie.
This man is a revelation in acting, and it's rather unfortunate that he isn't given the meaty roles that other lesser actors receive. He is a Best Actor winner yet he has done far too many 'B' movies for someone of his talents. Still, that night belonged to him, and his acceptance speech was just so heartfelt and genuine. Matthew McConaughey just won this years Best Actor for his performance in 'Dallas Buyers Club', and he deserved it, but it amazes me how he is given so much 'credit' and 'props' for thanking God; like it is such a rare occurrence; when there were others, like Mr Whitaker, who have done so before him.
It's a new age, with new challenges; to have faith now is more of a struggle than it was 5 years ago when "atheism" was just a mumbled idea rather than a pseudo-movement
Luisan Falconi It's a false movement; people think atheism is new, fresh and exciting when it's been around since the dawn of religion. It's nothing new, it's nothing special, and most importantly history shows it also culminates in not much at all.
That is not true. They are both great actors. DiCaprio has been doing great work for decades, from Gilbert Grape, Basketball Diaries all the way to Wolf and Reverent.
Gosh, I love this man. He's such a strong, involved, God-fearing, family-oriented man. On top of all that, he's a wonderful actor, director and producer. God bless you and your family, Forest Whitaker. 😊
To me it is. It is a virtue. It is a good moral quality. May God bless you, Sunny Singh. I hope you continue to receive all that you need and desire. :)
absolutely adore me some Mr. Forest Whitaker. He's speech was so heartfelt and special. But I have to say seeing Will, Leo, Dijimon and Ryan standing up for him was really cool too. They know he acted his ass off in Scotland and deserved that Oscar.
Forest Whitaker is one of my favorite actors. He brings out the humanity in each character he plays. He seems to have such a beautiful spirit. Well deserved award for Last King of Scotland.
Arya Stark yer I know right, Split was legit, the foundation of acting.... I can only assumed James has pissed off someone BIG from the film industry or that he just hasn’t been a ‘yes man’ like other fakers.
Greatest Oscar acceptance speech ever made. I was around 17 years old or so when I watched it live and it left me both in tears and covered in goose bumps.
+Daniel Shamu right? holy sh*t what a spectacular lineup, like, I'm happy Forest won because I love his performances so much, but every single one of the other nominees had won, they'd still be worthy winners... Seriously though, I hope DiCaprio gets his Oscar next time, because we've been sleeping on his talent a few times (I say that remembering his performances in blood diamond, wolf of wall street, even django unchained as a supporting actor...)
Forest Whitaker's performance in The Last King of Scotland is cringe-inducing, in a good way. Whenever I see him I remember Idi Amin and I just tremble in fear. I mean he was scary in The Last King of Scotland and just watching it gave me and my sister Forest-Whitaker-as-Idi-Amin-phobia! You know a performance is great if it still affects people years after!
Eddie VIII Still won every major acting award that year for Best Actor. He was amazing. Just watched that movie. He deserved it. I would've loved to see Will Smith win it too.
Eddie VIII Pretty much every performance that year is forgettable then. I just watched The Last King Of Scotland, I know for damn sure I will never forget his performance. Leo's is forgettable. Will Smith's was great, but not Oscar worthy, O'toole is great, but certainly not his best, more like a late career gem. Gosling gave a great performance, but it is certainly forgettable as well. Whittaker's performance is not forgettable. Maybe for you, but anyone who has seen that movie will surely not forget his performance. He deserved the trophy. More so than anyone else that year. Did you come here to this video just to hate on him?
Eddie VIII Let me tell you how pissed I am about Edward Norton not winning best actor for American History X, that is a crime in my book. Leo is quite overrated. His performance is What's Eating Gilbert Grape is amazing, and I loved him in Wolf of Wall Street. But he isn't all he is made out to be for sure.
Movie was good and his acting way above super. Had my eye on him since first saw in small role in platoon and he is great whatever role he does. Idi Amin was made for him. Eddie im sorry it wasnt Transformers part X for you...
Wow!! By far, the best speech ever for someone winning An Oscar. You can feel the passion of his words. This guy’s career is like wine, it gets better with time Enough!! 🇵🇷❤️
Wow that was a pretty powerful Oscar speech, as opposed to him thanking first and most importantly the director, then aaaall the cast and crew who were all so amazing and a pleasure to work with, then the studio, then his family, he did something unique.
Damn straight he was. I really thought he WAS Idi Amin. By the way, Forest won no less than 26 awards for his role, including all 5 major award groups (Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, Critic's Choice, and Screen Actors Guild).
What a powerful and inspirational speech! Forest was incredible in this movie - so deserved of this award. And how beautiful he chooses to use his 2 minutes in the spotlight to be a torchbearer and tell others you can do it too. Thank you Forest.
He should have won Oscar long long ago... for The Lion in Winter (1968). But his best performance is in Lawrance of Arabia (1962). That year, Oscar-winner Gregory Peck also delivered one of the finest performances of all time....
Forest Whitaker is also the director of "Hope Floats" back in the year 1998. The nice speech he ever had to say during his winning oscar for "The Last King Of Scotland" movie in 2006.
Leo DiCaprio was great in Blood Diamond, arguably his best performance. But Forest Whitaker was mesmerizing in Last King of Scotland. Tough choice, either of them would have been very deserving.
That speech was awesome. He captivated the whole audience. Well deserved Oscar. I also thought Kerry Washington should have received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She was awesome as well.
He played Idi Amin better than Amin could play himself. Also he worked really hard to develop himself in the role. It is probably one of my favourite pieces of acting of all time as Forest showed that all us humble men have monsterous sides within us, whilst those we percieve as monsters, such as Amin, are really just as human as you or me.
oh my goodness, im crying! what a wonderful speech! i havent seen the last king of scotland, but if he's won an oscar especially over Leo D, then he must have done a great job!
This isn't the first time I've watched this in this lifetime. But I probably will again before the end of my lifetime, and if I'm lucky, I'll do it while entering into the next lifetime.
Funny thing about this, two years before hand, my now ex-wife and I found two bottle feeder kittens and the one, she named Forest Whitaker. So I feel my cat has also won an Oscar, for best sleeping on the back of the couch category I mean. He has been on so many movies I have enjoyed and was POWERFUL as Amin, who was a larger than life character too. Proud my now 12 year old cat is named after him....
This is one of the best Oscar speeches ever. Some of the other nominees were almost brought to tears with this speech, as was his co-star in Last King of Scotland, James McAvoy. That's how you accept an oscar from the heart. and.......from, in my opinion, the best african american actor in hollywood, and one of the purest actors in the biz. forest whitaker.
YO, that might be the best Oscar speech I've ever heard. I just finished watching 'The Last King of Scotland' on HBOmax last night. I remember when the movie came out, I was a junior in high school and couldn't get to the theater to see it, but always wanted to. A jaw-dropping performance and an amazing speech!
2006 Leo was unreal so sad he didn't win the Oscar his performance in Blood Diamond was the best of his career also the Derparted was great in my opinion Leo deserve at least 2 or even 3 Oscar's for his performance 2010 Shutter island and inception was amazing 2013 Gatsby and the Wolf of Wall street was fantastic too so unfair
I remember that movie. It wasn't something I'd ordinarily watch, but I was stuck at a friend's house and bored. But, I'm glad I did watch it. The acting in it was great all around, and he definitely deserved that Oscar.
All the nominees that year were Oscar-winning performances, but they stood no chance against Forest's performance in The Last King of Scotland. That was simply perfection. I am not fan of the movie itself and I don't consider it to be more then just above average, but Forest's performance was what held me to my seat for almost an hour after the movie was over.

Agreed. Amazing actor..sooo talented.
@@immune18 What do you mean?
Acting is literally the definition of faking it 😂
I love the little fist pump that Ryan Gosling did when Forrest Whittaker won, such a good sport, and a very well deserved Oscar.
Speaking of good sports, forgot to mention how DiCaprio and Gosling gave him a standing ovation.
+Hassaan Mirza Will Smith also gave Forest Whittaker a handshake and standing ovation.
like they had a choice
It may be just me but it often seems like Gosling does not really care about awards, considering his reaction when both winning and losing. He seems like a pretty chill guy
Ryan stood up for him bcuz it was probably one of the best an well deserved oscar ever not to mention his speech 👏
That was one of the best Oscar acceptance speeches of all-time! 💯🔥
Johnny Montalvo joe Pesci’s was better
@@lzi9452 simply Thank You!
adrian's was the best
Johnny Montalvo literally felt every second of sincerity
Joaquin's was great too
This speech remains as one of the guiding forces of my life.
Totally agree.
You are correct sir, he and Russell Crow, when he won for gladiator, two of the best I ever heard.
.
Yeah I'm just seeing this speech for the first. This is one of the best Oscar speeches I've seen.
Unbelievably talented, completely deserved, great story also.

James McAvoy is a huge talent.
Waiting for his Oscar also.
Would’ve thought Forrest would be support and James lead. Leo up for blood diamond instead of departed is odd too.
He had a crazy performance in split
Mccvoy didn't stand a chance infront of Whittaker
He should have had several nominations already. His performances in The Last King of Scotland, Atonement and Split were incredible.
That emotional look from Keisha, his wife at the time, always moved me. May she rest in peace 💙
Look at Leo's face (and some of the others) ... they are captivated by what he's saying.
What, and such, a heartfelt and moving speech to say the least.
how weird it is, that to hear from the Idi Amin, for me, very weird
What a beautiful speech--He not only thanked God, but also his ancestors--POWERFUL.
Ryan Goslings reaction is so nice! He is legitimately happy for Forest!
What a beautiful speech. So genuine. I cried of excitement for him. That's how a speech should be at the oscars

that was such an honest and poignant speech. Amazing performance!
Forrest is very underrated. He was fantastic in the Last King of Scotland. His performance was so believable.
It's beautiful to see other actors being happy for one another. I loved Gosling's reaction.
Everyone talking about Leonardo DiCaprio not winnig, when Peter O'Toole died without winning any of his eight nominations
it s a life
Stefan Siljanoski Absolutely. Or greatness of Forest Whitaker.
and what about Ridley Scott? Fml
At least Peter O Toole won an honorary oscar.
That is not true. They are both great actors. DiCaprio has been doing great work for decades, from Gilbert Grape, Basketball Diaries all the way to Wolf and Reverent.

I was surprised at how good Forest Whitaker was in The last King of Scotland.
