I laughed out loud at the "work-arounds"! Good way to put it :) And, as I've tried both Nutri-Ox and Nioxin and neither worked well for me, I thought I'd share what HAS worked for me, especially as it's the most economical. I use a product from The Ordinary called Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density. Like anything, this does take some time and patience and I think it's about a year now for me but I now have visible results. Like you, Melissa, I had thinning at the temples and on the crown (well, probably other places too but those were the most noticeable to me and the most upsetting) and that's where I focussed my efforts and now see results. I do derma roll first with a .75 roller and then put a few drops on the scalp and then turn my head upside down and massage it in really well. As I say, it took a while but after a few months I started to see little baby hairs and now those are a couple of inches long! I've been so excited that I now work also on the sides of my scalp where it's also thin, especially on one side. My sister noticed and wanted to know what I'd been doing and she's now trying it too. Also, the actual condition and quality of my hair has improved, and the overall thickness. AND - unexpectedly, and I swear this is true - the new hair has dark pigment to it! This is truly miraculous to me because I was fully white by the time I was in my mid 30s! Anyway, just wanted to pass it on in case it helps someone else. Thanks for your videos Melissa; I love watching you no matter what you talk about - you're just so sweet and authentic. Hugs from Canada! XO
I’m a 24 yr old black girl who isn’t dealing with hair loss [yet] but I found you randomly from a retin-a video and I love just listening to you while I study. I also hope anyone dealing with these issue get better and find what works for them. Keep doing what you love Melissa, you are brilliantly kind sounding and you are helping a lot of people I believe. Sending lots of love your way!❤️💜❤️💜❤️💜❤️💜💕💕
Awwwww you’re so real and so sweet. My niece who has ulcerative colitis was losing hair and her dr told her about this. Such a blessing!! That’s a great tip about these drying the rest of your hair out! I never thought about that. I so need to play with my hair like you do!! You’re such a doll! Love you gorgeous girl!!😘😘😘
awww, I didn't know your niece had UC, Kathy. That makes me so sad. It's really hard to deal with You have just gorgeous hair. I love it. Many thanks! Melissa
@@Melissa55 do you have a make up video that’s fairly recent? I just love how naturally beautiful you are💕 I came very close to doing microblading my eyebrows but couldn’t stomach paying $450 to have it done.I’d like to know do you tweeze your eyebrows or do you have them waxed? And what product you use on your eyebrows?
You prolly dont care at all but does any of you know a method to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost my account password. I appreciate any help you can give me!
Good morning my beautiful friend. I "work around" so many things these days!! You are doing it right because throughout all of the years I've watched you, your hair has never looked thin. So happy you have found a system that really works for you. Thank you, Melissa. Many blessings, and love..MaryEllen
aw, love you, ME! My work arounds are getting more and more frequent. Oh it was really thin. I'll have to show you a picture. Love you lots and thanks! Melissa
Thanks for sharing. I am sorry you feel ashamed about your hair loss in the past....I feel ashamed that you are made to feel ashamed XXX I think you are a beautiful person, inside and out! I am starting my own 'work-around' strategy!!
Thank you for this video and I'll look forward to more hair videos. I've been losing hair as well. I have used the Pura d`or system. It's pretty good too. Yes, there are many changes going on with women who are aging. But with this community of helpers going through the same things it doesn't feel as bad.
I'm working around alot of things to. Right now it is thinning hair. Kathy Beauty Care Chats was just talking about this and I decided Nioxin was my next weapon. I'm going to Ulta today. Thank you for all you do..
Omega red is amazing for hair and nails. Your a model for ppl who don’t want to grow old gracefully. I say self care til the day I die. You look lovely. Thanks for sharing. Thyroid disease and stress has me buying wigs getting prepared. But thyroid was regulated and omega red now I get the underneath shaved cause it’s so thick.
This was so helpful Melissa. As we "mature" we have so many changes going on it gets confusing. We're so blessed to have this community of women who have similar experiences and struggles and are willing to share from the heart! It's easier to go through stuff when you know you're not alone. Thanks for sharing. ~Susanne xoxo
I just saw your video on hair loss…I lost my hair completely due to chemo. I’ve had other periods of greater than average hair loss as well, seen dermatologist twice…to no avail. However, my nephrologist put me on minoxidil, it works great. I’m no longer taking the minoxidil but they have a new product specifically for women. I also use Weem vitamins, they’ve been a lifesaver for me, with no intestinal upset. I’ve dealt and am dealing with IBS, diverticulitis and colitis and have been for many years. This may or may not help you but it definitely has me, I’m so thankful! Good luck, enjoy your vids.
Melissa I love your message of "work arounds". Thats so so true. We all live through changes and need to figure out a work around. So many issues that effect skin issues and hair loss. Mines nail and super dry skin. Im finding that issue is only getting worse. Thank you so so much bringing up the conversation that "everyone deals with something". Great video dauling. I love you so much. Hugs, Jennifer Xx
You know they say drink lots of water to try and stay hydrated and that will help our skin to feel more moisturize and the scalp I guess. I, however, just can't seem to get more than 4 to 6 cups in a day which is not enough.
Hey Melissa! I feel for you! Same here! I'm using a scalp messager in the shower when shampooing also a water filter. I think the little nubbies in the messager are really helping cause I have tons of new baby hairs coming in. I was told too not to use dry shampoos too much spray and use a detox shampoo once a month. Bumble and Bumble has a good one! I use lots of oils now at night and sleep with it. I message into my scalp and the best way to use it is laying your head on the side of the bed to get the blood flow! You are so smart not to use micro needles. No matter what you are gorgeous and shorter hair is so in fashion for 2020! Hugs! Xo
Hi Melissa, Such great information. So many of us struggle with thinning hair. Your hair always looks gorgeous. Tom changed our shower head to one that could accommodate a filter which removes Chlorine and other harmful toxins. It always smelled like Clorox when we showered and my scalp was so dry. After doing research we realized that Chlorine is really detrimental to your lungs, skin and hair. Since we shower daily and have the filter I have less hair falling out. Age sure has taken it’s toll on my hair. I’m taking castor oil and do a warm olive oil and vitamin E conditioning treatment to my hair once a week and that has helped as well. Love and hugs .... Sherry
I also experienced hair loss during times of stress and during menopause. The daily amount of hair in the shower drain was frightening. I began drinking a lot of water and taking good quality supplements and I did see improvement, but when I stopped coloring and highlighting my hair, the difference was dramatic. I have so little hair loss and breakage now, I would consider it normal turnover. While I miss my beautiful blonde hair like Melissa's, I am embracing the gray and going with "homegrown" highlights. If I decide to go back to coloring, I know I can use these products right from the start to hopefully keep the hair loss at bay. Thanks for sharing this information. Melissa, you just got a new subscriber!
Oh that is wonderful news, Melody. While I do like to color my hair I can see myself in the future letting it go natural. That hair in the strainer is shocking isn't it? Thank you so much. You just made my day! Melissa
I just came across your channel a few days ago and I just love you. I'm a southern girl too...Roanoke, Virginia. This particular video really peaked my interest. I'm 55 soon turning 56 and going through perimenopause and I've been under stress too and I also just lost my sister. My hair use to be so full and thick, but now it's thinning so much. Like you I find big wads of my hair in the strainer in the tub. I also find unbelievable amounts in my hairbrush. I've been taking Biotin, but haven't noticed but maybe a tad bit of difference. Then I tried Viviscal and it actually seemed to make me lose more hair. I really starting noticing bald spots around my hairline and at my crown. You have given me some hope with this Nutri-ox. I think it's definitely worth a try, so thanks! I'm so glad I came across your channel! I love your accent and personality, not to mention your gorgeous! You are a breath of fresh air! So I appreciate any tips you have. I definitely subscribed to your channel. I'm trying to start a TH-cam channel, but it's not really going yet. I hope to be half as great as you!
I sure appreciate that so much, Miranda. I do think tretinoin helps a lot. I just keep things really simple and don't put a lot of heavy products on my skin that can weigh it down. I have trouble with that if things get too greasy or heavy. You are very kind!
@@Melissa55 hello beautiful lady I just find your channel. Can you please recommend me a face and neck lotion but nothing expensive? Please you are so beautiful and which shampoo you recommend me? Please
@WINTER No she hasnt. My dad is a Dr and can spot fillers a mile a way. Shes done nothing. Shes avoided baking in the sun and she doesnt smoke. Those are the biggest agers. Now go someplace else and troll.
Thank you Melissa for this info. I am experiencing hair loss I feel due to stress of loosing my best friend. It’s been a rough year. I will go to Ulta and get the products. I always love your Instagram stories along with your videos. I feel you are truly a honest and great person.
Lordy, at 55, age thins it too! After septic shock I lost alot of hair and it has never really recovered. But I'm lucky to be alive. Thank you for the tips. Love ya, Melissa!!! 😊 💖
Thanks so much Melissa for sharing what works for you. This is so timely for me. Since my hormonal change, I've noticed thinning and some loss. Ugh!!!! I am so grateful for this community for sharing problems/solutions in being our best self. So glad you found something that works for you. See you next time ❤🤗❤🤗
Hormones sure are fickle things aren't they? lol It's like this other entity enters our bodies and says "surprise" lol Thank you so much! Love, Melissa
Great video Melissa! - I have been using the Nioxin system for about 6 weeks and I couldn't be happier. I noticed much less hair loss at around the end of week 2 as well as my hair seems thicker and stronger somehow. I'm also using the Nioxin Thicken Spray and the Nioxin 3D Styling Rejuvenating Elixer for styling and like them too. I have an order in for the Nioxin Niospray Strong Hold Hairspray but it hasn't arrived yet - I'm sure it will be nice. I'm so glad I found these products and don't plan to stop using them anytime soon. I'm really glad they're working for you too!
Just discovered two big patches of hair loss yesterday. I will try this. I have a doctors appointment in a couple weeks too. I would love to see more hair videos. We are the same age but I look bad. Had some major stress which led to a lot of crying. I’m watching your videos for tips. I always took good care of my skin but couldn’t control the stress. Thank you for your motivating videos! You are such a sweet, beautiful lady!
Your hair is beautiful Melissa!!! I lost my Father in October and shed alot of hair it is starting to thicken up again, Ill tell you stress does so much damage to us physically...I am so happy you found something that is working!! You are such a brave woman. Hugs Jennifer
Paulette Richards Oh if you try it I hope it works for you. Don’t give up, sometimes it takes a bit of trying different things to find what works. Good luck and thank you.♥️♥️♥️
Thanks for sharing. My thinning hair is from age and heredity. However, my hair did not fall out like yours, rather I did not have any new growth for the natural turnover of normal hair loss. Mine is also in 3 places. I either comb or massage each of the 3 areas with 50 strokes twice a day to increase the circulation to the hair root. I also bought shampoo with Sandalwood. Supposedly the scent stimulates hair growth (it is popular in men's products.) I also bought a sandalwood essential oil and spray it on the shower wall underneath my shower head to get the scent throughout my shower. So far I think this has helped me somewhat. I enjoy and look forward to your videos.
Yes! I do massage my areas, too. Mine is also in three areas - the temples and the crown. I hadn't heart that about sandalwood, but I bet it smells good. I love these hints. What shampoo are you using? I might want to try it. Thanks Dawn!!!
@@Melissa55 I am using Shea Butter and Sandalwood shampoo by Love Beauty and Planet. I have also used Every Man Jack Sandalwood shampoo. Both are priced very reasonable.
I’m so sorry Melissa you had to go through hair loss. I had no idea. Your hair always looks pretty 💗. I’ve heard great thinks about the Nioxen. I’m glad you found something that helped. Thank you so much for sharing this information. It’s so helpful. I look forward to more hair videos 👏🏻. Love ya! 😘💗💗💗
Your hair always looks fabulous. You were amazing at hiding your problems. My hair has gotten so thin. You can see my scalp easily right in the front. I hate it! I’d be more upset by it if I was still working. I wear it down for one day & a ponytail for 2 days. The third day I wash my hair. I couldn’t wash my hair every day. I heard good things about the Monat hair system. It’s also supposed to be expensive. I don’t know if you have to wash your hair everyday. I don’t know what to do. I even sleep in a ponytail. My hair is breaking a lot because of it. I had Linda cut my hair chin length so I can’t put it in a ponytail. I used to have such thick hair. Heredity, low thyroid & medications have caused hair loss. Phooey! Love you, Lucy
Melissa I agree 100% that products clog your scalp. I do not use any, not even hair spray! Shampoo and conditioner along with having my grays covered is it!
Hi Melissa, Your hair looks so beautiful. Female hair loss runs in my family so that is one strike. I actually never thought about hair loss until menopause. Then suddenly it hit me in a bad way because before I had very thick hair. I never thought about my pores getting clogged. I use this Big Sexy Hair powder that gives volume on my scalp. I am going to stop. I am going to buy the Nioxin shampoo and serum because right now I am just using the conditioner. I think a hair category is a great idea. I love this video. Thank you for speaking on this subject. Have a wonderful day!! xx
Thank you for sharing how you handle hair loss! Your tips clearly work! I’d never have noticed your hair loss. You are always gorgeous. Girl!! Yep, I’m learning all about those “ work arounds!!” Love you!!😘💜
Thank you for addressing this very distressing issue for women. I have also been experiencing hair loss. I have contributed this physical problem with the emotional stress of losing my mother and then my brother just within a few days of one another. I also am aware that age plays a part also. (Melissa we are the same age). You have given me hope. I will be purchasing these products and giving them a try. I hope my results will be as good as you have found yours to be. Thanks again for the info!
99.9K subscribers, so close...I know you'll get there!!!💜 I love your videos and how real you are, I know you just helped a lot of people with this video, thank you for your courage to share. I love the Nioxin system and I take Viviscal hair growth supplements and they've really helped, I don't shampoo my hair as often as you do because my hair color fades too fast..also I use hair fibers to fill in spots but I'm still so thankful for the two products I use. I too have an autoimmune illness. I always love how you wear your hair and look forward to more hair videos, you're simply beautiful!
Hey Melissa I remembered that you did this video on hair loss and I went back and watched again, I ordered the same system that you use and hope it helps. I am taking a lot of meds and under a lot of stress trying to get ready to move and I know that is the reason I am having the hair loss. It has just started and I have used the Bioten shampoo and conditioner system before and have just started on that yesterday. I used a hair loss system when I lost my husband a few years ago and I am sure that was stress so I am going to give it a try. Thanks for the info and I will keep you updated on my progress.....Anna xoxo
I so love all of your videos Melissa... you are so very sweet and caring and humble. You are such a blessing and all your videos have helped me in skincare, lifestyle and just everything.... I just love you so much.
Melissa… Congratulations on reaching 100,000 subscribers! I am so happy for you! This is a wonderful subject to talk about. Most of us at some time have had issues with hair loss due to various reasons. I have tried Nioxin and the Sally's brand. I thought they both worked fantastic. I don't use them now, but they helped me through a difficult time. Hope your 2020 is off to a great start. Love you… Laura❤️
Mine was so bad and nothing was working .... not the shampoos or hair vitamins .... so I took a leap and bought the lest expensive HAIR MAX and it has really stop the hair from falling out at the roots and I am seeing new growth .... Yaaaa !!! ..... Still trying different shampoos and really the ones that you mention did nothing for me ...... One of them that I did like was the Alterna Caviar Densifying .... However I did not like how hard it was to get out of the bottle .... soooo we will see about it ... in the meantime I just bought and tried the Living proof restore shampoo and at this time I really like it ...... Thank you for sharing ...... Hugs ...... Shirlene
Glad you have reduced the products you use. I'm in my 50s and started seeing hair loss. However less is more and my hair is super healthy thanks to nioxin 2x a week. And letting my hair rest. Shampoo less. No blow drying. No heat. My hair is halfway down my back amd thick and healthy. No dying ....or just once or twice a year sime highlights....or so. But I'm not really very gray yet. And us blondes can have a little gray....it is in style I think and it Blends well for light hair and light skin and eyes. Less is more...with makeup too and that's my work around!!! Thank you for introducing me to nioxin way back 🙏
New subbie from the UK here! loved your down to earth style & happy nature!, I'm coming up to 60 & the menopause has really thinned my hair out. I've always had fine hair but quite a lot of it but now it's just fine hair. I can tell when I go to tie it back & can feel the lack of thickness in my hand. I use dry shampoo sometimes but I bought a scalp brush with silicone 'cones' which bend very easily & it feels wonderful to get those blood cells circulating again knowing that it's not damaging my hair & helps to unblock & stimulate all the follicles again but I haven't been using it long enough to see a difference yet ( I'll keep you posted) lovely to meet you & you're looking good girl! xxx
I'm from UK. I'm 62 and hormone changes made my hair thin a little for 6 months last year. I found taking maca powder, kelp, zinc, copper and increasing omega 3s in chia seeds and flax plus eating avocados and cocounut oil helped. My hair has stopped shedding and looks better. Avoid fluoride in tap water and toothpaste bad for hair and thyroid. I use Giovanni brand from TK Maxx. Green mineral powders for smoothies helps. I believe its lack of minerals and not absorbing foods like I used to, also digestive enzymes help break down foods so they can be absorbed easier - menopause sucks lol.
I had scalp and hair loss problem.for a very long time. Going from being a vegetarian then to being vegan made me realize I have an allergic reaction from dairy. My scalp and hair has improved dramatically! PRAISE GOD!
Thank you so much, Melissa! Your hair is downright gorgeous and no one would ever know you had a problem! You look so beautiful today! Love you! Jeanie xxoo
So informative TFS. It’s amazing how our body’s really do change as we age!! I’ve had so many little problems the older I get that I’ve never thought I’d be dealing with. But I had been dealing with dry scalp issues I’ve never had before. My scalp was so much healthier when I washed my hair everyday!! we’ve also put a water filter on our shower and that seems to be helping also. It was so bad my scalp was burning & itching after showering. This getting old stuff is for the birds 😜🤦🏽♀️🤷🏻♀️. I don’t like these changes in my body 😩🤪.
None of us around here viewing this Channel or old! :-) real babies compared to Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders. It's a different time now, just have to make a few adjustments. If your scalp it's a little dry then perhaps you need to try massages on the scalp to help activate that sebum that naturally lubricates the scalp. Eliminate drying shampoos with sulfates in them and don't be afraid to use a light oil on your scalp when needed for moisture just as you would use cream on your face. Additionally, some people may not be able to shampoo everyday or every other day. At this young stage, that may be a little too frequent.
Sable 711 I agree, Joe & Bernie are old as dirt!!! Thx for those tips cause I do brush my hair a lot to stimulate & get that sebum distributed (like the pioneer women did). Jojoba oil was the only oil that seemed to help my dry scalp and not leave me feeling like a grease ball. Thank you Sable.
I have thought about a water filter. You do feel it makes a difference? I have had so many things burn my scalp and for some reason the Nioxin is the only thing that has calmed it down. I don't know why either. lol Many thanks!
I'm so glad you shared this, Melissa. My hair has really been thinning over the past 4 months. Like your hair loss, mine was triggered by the stress of dealing with my mom's breast cancer battle. I haven't tried Nioxin, but I'd been thinking about it. You've helped me decide to give it a try! XOXO
Hi Melissa, great video. I am so pleased you are going to do more 'hair' videos. My hair is about your length but I am hopeless with it. I look forward to being inspired! Thanks again and happy new year!
Thank you for sharing this!! I now use the Nioxin System on my hair too since your first video on it a long time ago. It has helped a lot and you are so right, if you don't use it as directed your results won't be as good! I am the type to get tired of something and start trying other things, not just hair care but makeup as well! I will try to stick with it when I notice the thinning! Love and Hugs!!
I love your hair! It always looks nice! I have tried the Nioxin and I do like it. I only wash my hair a few times a week. I am so excited about you doing more hair videos. I want to know how you do so many of your styles. Thank you for sharing! Love and hugs! Connie
Hi Melissa..I have found that using progesterone cream has helped a lot in slowing and preventing hair loss. I heard a naturopathic doctor talking about it on a radio show and love it. I just recently found your channel and I love your videos and how sincere you are. I'm in Boston but I love the South and how polite people are there!
Me too , and she was sick for 10 years before her death. it's just worsened for me but I have been researching and trying a lot of things that I hope will help and praying.
@@Melissa55 absolutely, also my son was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis during that time, and 3 years after my mom passed, my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, he passed in 2017.
@@sandrag.mcalister3308 my father died of West Nile virus, never left the country, bit by mosquito 3 years ago. Was a healthy man repairing roofs and hunting and such. Paralyzed him mouth down, put on a ventilator and watched him beg my mother to take him off and eventually 6 months later did. That triggered mine, then had a car wreck which ended my career.
Wonderful tips ! Thanks for sharing 👍🏻 By the way, I wanted to tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed the hair video you did with your daughter in law, it was fantastic. She is absolutely stunning and I loved her look , before and after. They were what I call , precious moments. 💝
Would you ever wear hair extensions? They have one on a clear wire that does notn harm your hair at all. It's one piece like a halo.Blends in with your own hair but adds thickness. Amazon has them, not expensive at all.
Thanks for sharing what has worked for you. Being post menopausal can cause hair loss, and I know with having colitis and traveling from SC to WV every other month to take care of my mom and stepdad is extremely stressful. But, I have been using different shampoo and conditioner for dht keeping the follicles clean, my hair isn’t falling out as bad, I have used both of these systems and several others. I use these type products only on my scalp. For the rest of my hair I use totally different products. One product that I fell in love with this past year is from Colleen Rothschild and it’s the hair mask. I use it as a conditioner in the shower on my hair without getting it on the roots. It’s really kept my highlights from drying out. The things we have to do when we age....just changes everything... much love xoxo
You are so right that your health and stress plays such a HUGE role in your hair and everything with your body. Girl, you are so right that as we age we do more "work arounds" lol! Loved this and you look beautiful. ♥ Elle
aw, thanks, Elle. You do know you and Swoozie and Tammy are my hair gurus? I really would like to try the derma rolling. I'm just so scared to! Love you, Elle. And thanks.
I would like hear you discuss going blonde and long-haired. How you did it, how long it took to transition, your family's reaction to the change. I think lighter hair can look thicker (hide the scalp & swell the hair shaft) and certain hair cuts can help give a thicker appearance. How do you ask your hairstylist to cut your hair?, etc...also how much does it cost to keep up your cut & color? THANKS!
Oh thank you. I think I did one, but I will have to organize my hair videos and see if I can find it. I didn't say, but I'll tell you here. I think I have done it as a rebellion to my mother. She always wanted me to have it short (she had longer hair, but said my hair wasn't good hair, so it needed to be short) and it was like I wanted to prove her wrong when she passed. I know it's childish. I get long layers in my hair with it a bit layered around my face and long bangs that I keep from chin to nose length. Thank you so much!!!!
@@Melissa55 that's really good. I used to have severe reactions to color and I would tell my hairdresser all the time. I don't think she believed me and wouldn't investigate so I tried Madison Reed at home and used it twice and not one bit of irritation. It doesn't have PPD or something that starts with an R?? in it and bingo I didn't have to go gray. I too think my hair looks thinner gray. I tried the longest 4 months.
Hi Melissa, I am using the Nioxin treatment only. I suppose I need to also use the shampoo and conditioner for better results, huh? 🙄😊 My hair is thinning in the same spots as you. Fyi I love listening to you! Enjoy the weekend! We will be having snow in north Jersey tomorrow👎!
Congrats on 100k. Wonderful achievement ! You're such a genuine, warm and beautiful lady and it's a pure pleasure to watch you. Here's to the next 100k

Thank you, Melissa and PCakes for your replies. I have seen my dermatologist who gave me some of the same answers as you all did. I also started the Joan Rivers Great Hair Day set. I guess I am doing all I can. I appreciate you both for making me feel better and I do realize I just need to give it time. Thank you both for answering me. I will keep you updated. Much love, Susanna. Melissa, thank you for doing this much needed video! I really am grateful.
Hi Melissa I can totally relate . I am also on immune suppressants and cannot derma role or do any treatments that have any risk of infection. Love hearing how you address anti-aging without procedures. Thanks
I have a hair salon and I am a hairstylist over 25 yrs .Sally sells the knock off version of Nioxin and most name brand products . ..Hormone changes as we age including thyroid play a big part in hair loss as do hereditary factors as well as environmental. Also stress I have seen many clients lose hair in times o extreme stress. My biggest advice too women is too use sulphate free shampoos only. There are studies showing sulphates use over time contribute too hair loss..not that many years ago most shampoos if not all had sulphate. Now all the salon lines carry sulphate free shampoo . Use a shampoo suitable to your hair type ie coloured etc fine dry but only in sulphate free. Keep your scalp clean as oil build up on the scalp is not good for thinning hair. Also good massage too keep blood flow coming too the scalp. Melissa you are an inspiration too all of us women fighting the aging process. I have never seen (celeb) nor met anyone in person your age that looks like you without surgical help . Either fillers or botox surgery ..all of the above. There are many celebs that look good with help.. but the firm jaw line and lack of jowls by age 64 are not the usual outcome unfortunately ..unless of course one has surgery. I'm almost 52 fighting all the way. I also use retin gel and no smoking or sun with out sunscreen etc. I basically have always followed a similar skin routine as you and so far I'm holding my own. Not sure if if I will have a hope in hell of looking as good as you at 64... a gal can hope though..LOL You really look amazing are you sure you really aren't younger than you are telling us??..Ha Ha
Oh thank you so much for sharing here! Yes, Sally's has the best products! I could wander around there all day long. I have heard thyroid really can mess with hair loss. I have started to massage my temple ares and hopefully it helps! Oh thank you more than I can say, Tracey. I am truly grateful and you are just beautiful! I can't thank you enough. Many thanks! Melissa
Hi Melissa, Your hair always looks lovely. I never would have known you struggled sometimes with this. I'm glad you found something that works well. I'm sure this video will be helpful. I don't use many products like dry shampoo on my hair. I am sensitive to fragrances. It really bothers me when I use a conditioner and the scent stays in my hair. I end up smelling it all day and it makes me feel not too great. I have long hair that I wash just about every day using Johnson's Baby Shampoo and an organic conditioner called Shikai Daily Moisture Conditioner. I got a Dyson hair dryer for Christmas and it is a wonderful hair dryer. Thanks so much for all the wonderful videos you post. You are so pretty (inside and out) and truly an inspiration to many women. Love, Karen
I'm 65 and started experiencing thinning hair around 58. I've tried so many products including the ones you are mentioning and nothing has helped. Now I'm ordering wigs, just to keep the stress off of my bio hair and help me not to stress about losing my hair, Wigs help me to look nice when I need it for special occasions.
Your hair is so pretty! Especially when I see you on your instastories. Sounds so much like my hair loss. It's devastating. I have tried Nioxin and that made it worse so no more with that lol. So glad it's working for you! Thank you Melissa for sharing. This real really help with others who are suffering with hair loss. Have a wonderful weekend!! XOXO
Your advice was very helpful on my part. I also had this shedding of hairs. I saw it after taking a shower that a lot of hair was on the floor in my room and it's been for couple of years now. And thank you for your video for reminding me to better mention this to my doctor before my scalp started appearing.
I'm dealing with that too, Melissa! I had my scalp burned over a decade ago from a salon that left bleach on my head too long. I don't know weather I can regrow anything but I don't want too lose any more. My husband uses this system and he has a good amount of hair. Thank you for sharing this. I may give it a try. At least it might prevent further loss. Love ya as always, my beautiful friend. HUGS
Hi Melissa, I wouldn't have ever guessed you were going through any hair loss, I have heard of this brand. I always try to keep things in mind as keeping the hair follicles clean and open is good, I get to build up sometimes and now use a bit less than that of what I used to style my hair. So if I use a hair serum I only like to put that and small size of curl cream and scrunch. Have a good weekend, love and blessings xoxo BTW Congratulations on 100K!!! xoxo 😘🙂
I suddenly at 73 developed hypothyroidism....diagnosed by my internist. I began thyroid medicine at a low dose then he upped it. I noticed alot. of hair shedding...I color my hair but use no heat, air dry, no curling tools. My internist recommended a female endochrinologist. She is upping my thyroid meds faster and prescribed biotin...after she did that, suddenly a week later, my hair loss returned to normal AND more importantly, my hypothyroid symptoms of massive exhaustion etc abated. But now I need to make what I have left look thicker...I have had a blunt cut low shoulder length, I braid it at night if I want it wavy...it has some natural wave. Once I have white roots I will STOP coloring it warm blonde. My mothers white hair looked platinum blonde and I know eliminating bleach will help...I only need to color my hair once every 6 weeks in front and once every three months in back. CAnt wait to go all white! I will check into these products to see if I can buy them where I live abroad. There are some small Sallys stores in the capital but they only carry a very reduced amount of stock.
Darlene Klonk I think losing hair is inevitable for everyone after around 58 both men and women and men don’t have the menopause. By hair thinning I mean generally thinner all over and it’s not as strong as it was. Unfortunately some women and men actually get bald patches too...that must be REALLY depressing. I’ve got hair that looks very much like this lady but now it only looks reasonably ‘full’ when it’s just been washed.
@@janheard3826 Yes...some of us more than others. Look at nursing home ladies...hardly any of them have thick hair. I just try to hide it, hide it, hide it!! I use Great Hair Day from Joan Rivers to hide the thin spots showing on top and I have clip in extensions cut the same length as my hair and I dyed them to match my hair. It does the trick!
@@dallimamma Yes...mine started to thin after I stopped taking hormone replacement at 60. A lot of it is hereditary. My Mother in law is 88 and has the thickest hair...my Mother's hair thinned...but worse than mine.
Melissa, growing up in the 60s we used only shampoo and conditioner , maybe hairspray. Now the regimes for many are excessive, using 5 or 7 products at a time. I have cut way back to shampoo and conditioner ( Hair Food brand ) and at 66 have the best, longest hair I have ever had. Less is more,
Thankyou Melissa for sharing. I too have had and still do have shedding. Very upsetting .always looking in the drain in shower. I've had stress also with few situations , also been on antibiotic from dermatologist for months. Now getting blood work done for my primary. Hopefully we will figure out something. Been trying not to use blow-dryer. Airdry at night after washing and lightly straighten in morning. It seems like the more I do and worry the worse it gets. But I appreciate your suggestions. You're very pretty, and your hair looks nice. We just gotta keep being positive. Be blessed.
Yes, always looking in the drain. I am glad you're getting blood work done and trying to figure out what's going on. It's always best to see someone professionally. I wish you the very best of luck with your health. And thank you, Melissa
This is my problem too. It's in the maternal line of my family so half of us are affected. There are lots of great smoke and mirror type products out there but only cosmetic.
Heredity must have a lot to do with it. My mom had super thick hair but I don't think my dad did, so I must have inherited mine from him. Love ya girl, and be safe. Melissa
@@Melissa55 I can imagine i think women feel so femine with our hair and once we have problems thinning bald spots can really make your confidence nose dive, stress and diets make my hair thinner but i find my hair goes through cycles so i try not to worry.
Oh! the dreaded hair loss. I have many medical conditions and the meds I am taking have destroyed my hair. It is a very depressing so i am glad you are speaking about it Melissa. My RA meds that I am on are similar to yours. I can’t fight infection so derma rolling would not be an option for me either. I think I will try the system you are using in hopes it will work for me, I am desperate at this point. I also think I will start washing my hair more often and sees if that helps also. Thanks again sweet lady for another informative video!❤️
Good luck on your journey to decrease the hair loss. For me I feel like shampooing less is better. I have curly hair so it's difficult for the sebum to travel down my hair shaft so it's not as oily and try hair can break very easily.
Sable 711 Thank you so much for your comment Sable I appreciate any ideas that I can get. They say our hair is our crowning glory so when we start to lose that we lose our self confidence. Maybe with all of our opinions we can help each other! God Bless you!💕
I sure appreciate it, Joyce. What is frustrating is that we can't do the things that others can do for hair loss because of either our diseases or the medications. So no derma rolling. and I can't take biotin, and even if I did, I don't have good enough intestines to absorb it. So that's what I meant about a workaround. We have to try to come up with solutions that we can't use that others can. Good luck, Joyce! And thank you!
Melissa55 It’s so frustrating like you said because of our conditions. I unfortunately have a double whammy, I have RA and hashimoto’s thyroiditis. I am almost positive that my thyroid is at fault besides my RA and contributing to my hair loss! My doctor told me not to take any of those hair vitamins and to tell you the truth I would not want to, I am always paranoid of interactions with all of the prescription meds I take! Since I have RA I also suffer with intestinal issues. I am telling you truthfully if I didn’t have a sense of humor I would have lost my mind a long time ago! Smh!
Yes gorgeous I lost my hair when I used Monat now I’m using Nioxin its les loose and much better . I’m 63 years I’m on medication. Thank you so much 😊 for your kind love ❤️ you so much 🌹🎂🌺💕💐🌸
Ya we have to be careful what we put on our hair on day I got allergy reaction from roots colour at hair dressers she call 911 it was so bad thank you 😊 melessa
melissa, I've had hair thinning from Rheumatoid meds, stress, you name it. My favorite that works for me is to put about 20 or so drops of Rosemary essential oil in my shampoo bottle, shake it up...and use it till gone. Rosemary helps stimulate the scalp and strengthen hair...it also makes my hair grow fast! I also take Biotin supplments for about a month or two....I stop when it's back and healthy, then when I notice it thinning again, I repeat.....hugs
Oh that is a good hint! And I would bet the rosemary stimulates. lol I went on to read and you said that. hahahah. Thank you so much for this. I'm just so scared to take Biotin. I don't know how it will react with my guts. Many hanks!
I lost a lot of hair and weight during a stressful time and tried similar remedies as you. I added rosemary and peppermint oils into light almond oil and massaged it into my scalp's thinning areas then let it sit for about 20 minutes before shampooing. My hairstylist said to gently massage my scalp every day to rev up circulation and keep my scalp clean just as Melissa said. That and a B vitamin with biotin each day helped me quite a bit. It took a few months to see a lot of regrowth. Best of luck to all you lovely ladies.
Joyce Fortunato I used to suffer from anxiety and difficulty breathing. I started using cbd oil derived from hemp and now I suffer no more. It’s a Godsend
I love Nioxin! I had a scary amount of hair loss after several months being a raw vegan. I decided to go back and study up on nutrition and found some videos that helped a lot. I now take grass fed beef liver capsules every single day along with L-threonate Magnesium supplement and cod liver oil along with co-q10. It’s a long story how I came to these things, but they not only help with hair, nails and bone health, they are great for aging and preventing saggy skin. AND my hair has grown back fuller and with BODY, it’s just alive now. So dead and flat when I was vegan and now I know how important animal fats as protein and minerals are! I also make homemade bone broth! Next I’m ordering some trace minerals! I love your channel!!
CarolineThe same thing happened to me when I went vegan, but it just makes me sad to eat animals...Sometimes I wish I could “unvegan” myself. Any tips?😟 💗
@@alyse6567 My hair, skin, weight has never been better since I stopped eating animals. I suggest you watch Drs. Michael Gregor, Neal Barnard, Esseltyne, to name a few....drs who have been vegan, Healthy vegan/not a diet of chips and coke, for years. There is also Menopause Taylor, MD who has been vegan for almost fifty years. Lay like Mimi Kirk, Annette Larkins, Mary McDougall, vegan for decades and on yt.
I can tell you have very fine hair as do I, what shampoo and conditioner do you recommend for color treated hair. Also I am 64 and used Renova and Retin A for years. It got very expensive so I switched to a Neutrogena wrinkle repair in the bottle with retinol sa. My skin is in good condition and I know the Retinol has helped, but never did all lines and crows feet completely disappear as your has appeared to. I see your skin looks very taught and firm. What do you give the credit to for that. Thanks
Agreed with frequent washing. A dirty scalp encourages hair loss in my opinion. The scalp must be clean and those pores can't be clogged. I'm a daily hair washer and won't ever change that.
A dirty scalp definitely is not going to help. Yeast thrives on our scalp and can get out of control when less frequently washed as well as clogged follicles and general irritation from daily pollutants, products, oil etc.
@cynthia g I agree, when I stopped shampooing as frequently my hair started to grow and my problem areas. I also think this may be and individual thing however, everyone is different and we just have to find what works for us.
cynthia g Dr Dray who is a widely followed dermatologist here on YT washes her own hair every day. I think it's very important to keep that scalp clean.
@@Peridot500 you are correct, that she does. She works out alot but in that same video she also is aware that there are many different textures or curl patterns of hair and also said that this could be devastating for certain types of hair. So if you have straight hair an overactive sebaceous glands or have no issues with daily shampooing , then that should be okay. I kind of think that she didn't really say that it was necessary daily but she does it anyway. I was also surprised that she does not watch her face twice a day, morning and night. She sees no need to do that in the mornings so I stopped doing it twice and my skin does seem better. Isn't she a great person! :-)
I took the silica back because I researched it after buying it but I don't remember why I felt I couldn't take it, perhaps some allergy. I have recently started taking collagen peptides since some people believe that helps with hair issues as well. Probably not quite long enough to notice anything because I do it every other day if I remember and I only take half the dosage as recommended by another TH-camr who did a lot of research on it, she's also in her 60s, and determine that really only 1/4 is needed to accomplish what you want and if you want added protein just eating an egg or something else with protein because of the cost of this stuff, about 40 to $50 her mouth with the larger container. I'm definitely noticing something and the alopecia spots but not certain if it's because of the change of season or because I'm massaging more or what. I don't like tea tree oil shampoo on my hair but I will put it on my scalp and maybe that has been helping. I just rinse that out and then follow up with a shampoo I like on my hair like the Giovanni eco-chic.
@@sable7114 I'm so scared to take anything because of the Crohn's. They tried giving me a bit of extra calcium because of my age and it threw me into a flare. It's hard to know what to take or not to take.

One thing is the massage of your scalp that does alot most of these treatments have some mix of essential oils like Tea Tree I personally hate that smell. Best thing I ever did was get a filter for my shower head, the chemicals in our water dry your hair & skin. Frankly it had started to make me itch. Try Caster oil , Aloe Vera gel, Vit E 2tbs/ 1tbs/ 5 drops massage leave on 5 min~ I make shampoo bars with Horsetail butter stop using chemicals on your hair Just Sayin as always use caution and ask your Doctor
XO

Hugs! Xo
I've been following you for some time now and i must say this: You are such an inspiration beautiful lady. Thank you for this youtube adress.
Melody Shular that was crucial in my hair loss “recovery”, too. No more bleach or highlights.
Oh that is wonderful news, Melody. While I do like to color my hair I can see myself in the future letting it go natural. That hair in the strainer is shocking isn't it? Thank you so much. You just made my day! Melissa

Yes! More hair videos please! You are a true blessing to share all these tips. Thank you so much!
Your hair looks beautiful and so does your skin. How do you keep your neck from sagging and lower face from having jowls?
I sure appreciate that so much, Miranda. I do think tretinoin helps a lot. I just keep things really simple and don't put a lot of heavy products on my skin that can weigh it down. I have trouble with that if things get too greasy or heavy. You are very kind!

Hugs ...... Shirlene
Thanks for the honest opinions and you look great. Will watch your skin care video next!!
And us blondes can have a little gray....it is in style I think and it
Blends well for light hair and light skin and eyes.
PRAISE GOD!
Congratulations on 100K, you should have over 1M, your such an inspiration🤗
Thank you so much, Melissa! Your hair is downright gorgeous and no one would ever know you had a problem! You look so beautiful today! Love you! Jeanie xxoo
aw, thank you, JJ. You have just the prettiest, thickest hair!! It's gorgeous. I sure appreciate it! Love, Melissa
@@FromRVtoCrafts you are very welcome! I hope you have a wonderful day.
Sable 711 same to you Sable.
I am the same way! I keep getting the urge to switch things up. lol We need to stop that!
I found your channel this morning and you are already my favourite beauty youtuber
Thanks for showing us your routine! I’ve always thought your hair was beautiful and clearly the products you are using are working well! ♥️
I started losing my hair while i was taking care of my mother, she was sick for about 10 years, very stressful time, great information, Melissa! 💕
Me too , and she was sick for 10 years before her death. it's just worsened for me but I have been researching and trying a lot of things that I hope will help and praying.
It is so very hard and stressful isn't it? In fact, it's one of the hardest times of my life.
@@sable7114 I remember praying a lot, too. It was a really hard time in my life. But I did realize I was a stronger woman than I thought I was.
I have used the nioxin in the past and it really works well!! Ty for sharing💕
Oh I appreciate you telling me that. I think it can be hit or miss with people.
“Work Arounds”. How perfect. I love it! Thanks, Melissa. As always, you nailed it. Love and Hugs. 😘🙋♀️
Love your hair and I think it's great that you do so many different styles - love the versatility!
Sorry I didn't answer the cut and color. She charges me $75. for a cut, color, highlights, and blow-dry and dying my eyebrows.
@@Melissa55 My mother had a problem with my hair, too.
@@Melissa55 That seems like a really good price! I think it would be much more expensive where I live.

Hi Melissa
I can totally relate . I am also on immune suppressants and cannot derma role or do any treatments that have any risk of infection. Love hearing how you address anti-aging without procedures. Thanks
bettina gerl Hello, I’m also on immune suppressants and I find that washing my hair daily to stimulate the scalp really helps with hair loss.
I sure appreciate it. Yes, I don't think it's work the risk for us to introduce potential bacteria into our systems! Love and thanks! Melissa
Melissa
Thank you for all your tips and help. You are so pretty. 💗
HUGS
OH my gosh, Audrey. That is terrible. That makes my scalp hurt just thinking about it. Good luck and many thanks! Love, Melissa
Love it! Making a mental note of some of these products! Love you!! xoxo
Thank you for opening up about this. This was really really helpful.
My hair started to thin at 59 and it is still thinning at 65. I'm getting my thyroid checked again. Thanks for the info!
You know, that sure wouldn't be a bad idea. I know we lose more as we age, but it never hurts! Good luck!
Darlene Klonk ::: Isn’t it caused by a drop in estrogen, more like a menopause issue?
Less is more,
I may have to try the Nioxin...my hair has thinned out so much in the last few years! Love ya girl!
aw, love you back! And thanks!
Thank you for this video I have very fine hair. I always thought it was 2 to 3 days in between washings. Your hair is very beautiful. Thanks you again
This is my problem too. It's in the maternal line of my family so half of us are affected. There are lots of great smoke and mirror type products out there but only cosmetic.
I worked with a manager that had male pattern baldness she never covered her bald patch on crown but felt sorry for her.
Heredity must have a lot to do with it. My mom had super thick hair but I don't think my dad did, so I must have inherited mine from him. Love ya girl, and be safe. Melissa

Oh! the dreaded hair loss.
@@joycefortunato827 I love how we can toss out ideas to each other.
Smh!

melissa, I've had hair thinning from Rheumatoid meds, stress, you name it.
@Debi Smith Thanks for the suggestion I will try that also. I too suffer with RA and severe anxiety and stress! ☺️

I agree. I can only go to every other day or my hair is very oily.
Silica stops hair-loss and thickens it back up! Give it at least 4 months plus to see results. I can’t live without it.
Helene C good to know.
I haven't heard of it. I'll look into it. Thanks, Helene!!! You are gorgeous!
@@sable7114 I'm so scared to take anything because of the Crohn's. They tried giving me a bit of extra calcium because of my age and it threw me into a flare. It's hard to know what to take or not to take.

You are such a beautiful woman....dont let ppls.words.take anything away. Also have you looked into d.e.....diotmaceous earth....its natural silica powder, you can buy at a healthfood store or better yet ,a feed store like tractors suppy. It is food grade, cheap, and is very good for hair ,skin, nails, cleansing parasites, and many other diseases...Icant remember about crohns...butI suggest you to look up.There are many natural cures for help...Dont let fear get to you on your path to healing.God bless you.
