I like Dragons in Shadowrun. Their “power behind the power” thing can make for interesting plot twists. My crew did a run to steal an artifact from a Fourth World ruin in Salish, Indiana Jones style. We suspected we were hired by Tairngir, but it turned out our employer was Hestaby herself and she wanted to keep the artifact *away* from Tairngir because it had some kind of effect on the Astral Plane.
Do a full series on Shadowrun Lore Please. as I don't think anyone else has ever done this kind of thing in youtube.
I love these shadowrun videos. For such a popular game, it's weird how there isn't a big shadowrun lore channel yet.
From my understanding the egg theft thing is a lot more significant than just kidnapping. Dragon type isn't determined by genealogy but rather by where the egg hatches and who does the hatching. There's only one Great Sea Dragon and Rhonabwy is contributing to that even if/when they hatch under his care.
Dunkelzahn s name is older than the modern world. He was around in Barsave (Earth Dawn)--> wichs is basically modern Ukraine. That was around 10.000 BC. At that time Dunkelzahn was the name he used when disguising as the human servant of himself "the Dragon". Actually, the dragons were quite pissed that Dunkelzahn revealed to the world that dragons can change into Humans basically for a PR stunt.

I'm considering having sapient dragons of a sort in my fantasy/diesel punk setting. My world's version of trolls would be a sub-species of dragon which were forced to evolve in another direction after they got stuck underground for millennia.
That might be an interesting take on things. Trolls tend to vary wildly in different settings.
Idk if it was intentional or not but I'd say that works, considering Troll used to be a catch-all term for supernatural threats,
The runners credo - Watch your back, shoot straight, conserve ammo, and NEVER, EVER, CUT A DEAL WITH A DRAGON
So basically the reason hyper-intelligent and super powerful sapient dragons don't rule any world their part of can fall under some mix of these categories:
1. They are not all on the same page and have varied interests and goals that sometimes run counter to each other and thus these powerful creatures create a bit of a counter-balance to one another. If one starts getting to powerful and influential, he'll find his rivals have started banding together to keep him in check.
2. They simply don't care to run the world - outside of maybe having a small holding, their concerns extend well beyond the confines of the mortal world. Running the world would just be taking time and attention away from the things that they really do care about. The dragons' minds are completely other to us, so they don't necessarily care about the things that we might if we had their power.
3. They DO run the world (or large portions of it), but just not in a heavy-handed sort of way. Instead they just appoint lieutenants and form hierarchies that take care of the day-to-day things that frees them up from the minutia of it all and really only ever get involved when something critically needs their direct attention. Otherwise most people simply may never even realize that everything has a dragon somewhere pulling the strings.
Seems that SR kind of has a healthy mix of these three approaches.
Ah yes, I always loved the shadowrun dragons~ I agree that that's probably how dragons would act in real life, I also fully agree that Dragonfall is a great game

As far as I remember... you forgot Schneeflöckchen, the western great dragon, that showed up once, restet on the UNO building and then went back into hiding in the alpine region somewhere ? ^^'
Man, I felt that comment about nobody knowing about the sea dragons/leviathans. I've played since the late 80's on first edition and I had no idea.
Also, I had a giggle at "Showsa" people, guessing you meant Xhosa. Then again, knowing how it's pronounced, that's about the best a non native speaker can hope for. Love the videos and the trips down memory lane.

Ironically, Loefwyr isn't actually the dragon on the logo of his megacorp. He changed it to honor Dunkelzahn after he was killed.

The Sea Dragon technically has a name, it's just "not pronouncable by humans."
The Great Leviathan stays awake during the down cycle of magic & is sometimes entrusted to watch over dragon eggs
as for sirrurg , I think he took out the plane just to get at that magic user, no reason why, but that mage was powreful, like if you can hold off a great dragon for hours, holy shit, you are a power mage. Sirrurg did not start a war with Aztlan , Aztlan invaded Amazonia. Sirrurg was a beast and terror of Aztlan however he was taken down by Aztlan military forces but was saved and imprisoned by the dragon council.
A small correction on Hestaby:
She got exiled for her crimes against the draconic ways in the dragon civil war 2074 and lost her hort and all her belongings.
To my knowledge nobody really knows what the orange queen is doing right know or where she is, but she is probably working on restoring her wealth and power.

In fairness In dnd they gave up on ruling the world because they nearly got wiped out by magic so they decided that Empire wasn't for them and split up to do their own individual things.

Except Xhosa - the Xh is a click sound, so it would be more like "kosa" (no idea how else to write a click sound, Xhosa is extremely phonetic so most of the spelt words only barely resemble how they sound).

One nice thing about this setting is that they have those great dragons, who are very clearly entities recently awaken. And, also, there are the small version of dragons. Also intelligent people, but who may not be elder entities recently awaken. I am not entirely sure, but at least some of them may perhaps be people who used to be humans. And turned into dragons like some other people turned into elves, sasquatches, what have you.
Must exist some sort of relations between the big and the small dragons. But really, who knows?
I think the tabletop game never offered the option to build dragon characters for players. What is a shame. If they had done that this game would join Castel Falkenstein in the small list of games where that option exists and makes sense.

Cybperpunk setting see a future developed toward a situation where people start losing rights and more and more is controlled by things above them on which they have no control.

Also, tbh, Shadowrun is quite on its own on this since Runners are inside the system, even if they are technically outside. They are paid mostly by corps and they mostly do corps work, after all.
