This is the podcast (audio) version of Seth's June 20, 2015 speech at the Oklahoma Freethought Convention, as he explored how easily we, as human beings, become infatuated with ideas over facts, often leading to incorrect and even damaging assumptions that keep us in the dark.
What happens when we'd rather believe than know? This presentation explores the question in a compelling and entertaining way.

I admire your courage to bring truth to these "heroes". Took big brass ones Mr. Andrews, in the spirit of Hitchens. Well done.
Mother T refused by buy clean needles. She reused them without sterilisation. She refused to provide pain killers, even for those dying of pancreas cancer. She told her charges the pain was "Jesus's kisses" and they should be grateful. She was a sadist. Her own medical care was the best money could buy.
How did she spend those millions -- on gold altar decorations for her missionary houses.
And just HOW would YOU know all THIS stuff?

I recently got laughed at when I said that Mother Theresa wasn't the saint she's been made out to be by the media, and they said that compared to me she was, well give me hundreds of millions of pounds and see how I spend the money, until then we'll never know.
+ademetal Easy question. I will pay off my mortgage and save/invest the rest for my retirement. At least I'll be honest rather than telling people I'm using the money to help the sick while I let them die in agony...
SuperQuackDuck pay off my mortgage then invest the rest in socially conscious organisations developing new drugs and medical technology, clean energy, biotech...you get a return om your investment _and_ help people. They're not mutually exclusive.
Once you know the truth about Mother Teresa, it's absolutely terrifying to see people buy into the saintly image of her. She was a thief, a hypocrite, a sadist, and an energetic vampire (someone who feeds off of others' emotions, conditions, etc, to boost themselves up).
In short , a communal narcissist.
Like every relligiouse leader/ cult leader.
Thanks Seth for sharing the story on Mother Teresa. I am not surprised to hear all those horrible details. That's why I NEVER trust anything in the name of God and religion.

WHOA! I had no idea that 'Mother' Teresa was corrupt and a bit deranged.
30:30 this story is interesting because it reminds me of something that always baffled me even when I was a believer. This idea that we should pray for sick people but that they should also receive medical treatment. Like, is God gonna heal them or not? If God refuses to answer our prayers and heal this person, then clearly it's his plan for them to die and we should let it happen. If God is going to heal the person, then surely it would be great if he was able to take the credit for that instead of vaguely "Guiding the doctors"...? Taking things back a step further, if the person we're praying for is saved- Which they often are viewed to be since they're usually members of the congregation that's praying for them- Wouldn't it be better for them to die now? "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord," St Paul tells us. Surely it would be better for them to be safe and content in paradise, rather than suffering here on earth where there is still the possibility of them falling away and ending up in hell. What's always morbidly funny, though, and certainly very awkward for believers, is when- After a few weeks or even months of praying for someone to recover from cancer, the pastor quietly informs us that this person has "Gone to be with the Lord." and the funeral will be held shortly. And everyone feels a little sad, but within a few days they've all forgotten that God was customarily absent, once again, when we gathered to pray in his name. Jesus tells us that "Whatever two or three ask in my name, my father will grant." so I suppose we had too many people praying for all those I remember who are now dead.
This ended up being a longer comment than I thought. Guess I had to get all that off my chest.

Thanks for speaking about the scam of Mother Theresa. There is more about her that you didn't even get to, but it was a good start. People love the idea about her cause it gives them the warm fuzzies that someone is helping the poor so they don't have to.
No one is perfect. Even paragons of idealism have flaws. The more you examine Theresa, the worse she gets.
Was there ever a police investigation of Mother Teresa and her organization?

Mother Theresa is who I think of when I think of the phrase: "never mrrt your heroes". I read her autobiography. She wrote that Jesus became moer remote to her the more she prayed to him.
Mainstream media they are good of marketing her!
Dr. Barbara Forrest used to be at the university in my town. :D My head shot right up when I heard her name.
Obviously this speech had pictures/slides accompanying it. Would have been good if you could have shown these in the video here so we could see what the audience were reacting to.

In re. her writings about her doubts...honestly, to me those words are not the words of a non-believer. Asking people to pray for her, striving to find the connection she thinks should be there...she clearly believed there was something there, just that she wasn't able to reach it. Those words don't say to me "non-believer", they say to me that this woman was suffering from depression.

I sort of wonder of MT had the insight or knowledge or enough sharpness to know she was a walking marketing tool for the Catholic Church. It seems to me she was so lost and screwed up she genuinely had no interest in investigating into the $$s at her disposal and how those $$$s could help those who needed them most. Apathy? Disinterest? Disconnection? A cruel streak? Something was seriously wrong with that woman as well as the massive religious complex behind her, that massive cold well-oiled machine that turns the cogs was infinitely more to blame. Where were the Vatican bean counters and why weren't they investigating her hospices and their real funding needs? Why weren't teams on the ground delivering much needed vital equipment and trained staff? It's not as if the church couldn't afford it. They're grotesquely obscenely wealthy. So all summed up does it mean that those in power who could made things so much better chose not too because they didn't give a #%^$ about the lives compared the $$$$'s so prettily rolling in?
So messed up.
And I'd imagine not one word of apology from that frigid machine that used her and the sick and dying like muppets.

By asking for an *honest* review, rather than a *positive* one Seth may think about it, and if there are any points that may indicate additional research, thought or improvements, he may update his notes and present an improved view, based on more accurate observations and reason! Tricky! That's almost like.... y'know..... science, and.... reason and .... stuff....

dan jones Seth is selling his book, which is non fiction. Religion is selling eternal life, which is fiction. There's plenty of evidence for the revelations Seth made. Do you have any evidence for god?
