It's some kind of cosmic miracle that she went from a Google Translate goof-up (dung beetle) to misreading the correct answer in a way that is.... basically a perfect description of a dung beetle.
Roly poly = what she was going for. Dung beetle are beetles that harvest dung by rolling it in a ball, rolling it back to their home, and laying their eggs inside. Roly poopy = The perfect description of a dung beetle, the incorrect insect. I was very confused in that stream. If I didn't know the name roly poly(which is also known as pill bug), I would have been sure she was describing a dung beetle.
The amount of effort that Korone puts into communicating with her western audience is super endearing and one of the reasons why Koro-san is my fav. A Super Metroid playthrough sounds fun although if Korone hasn't heard of Metroid before, she might get lost with all the backtracking and puzzles. Also, the name "Morph Ball" has ceased to exist and will be officially replaced with "Roly-Poopy".
She even comment on videos about her in english. There's no other vtuber that put that much effort to communicate with their fans around the world. To me it feels like we really have created a bond with her, and that's why she's my favorite from Hololive
Her endings are gold, not only because she talks to the english viewers but also because she makes some intrusting ad funny topics for them, like this or the time where she makes an hamburguer :^ Also, not to mension the amount of noises that she is making in the digimon streams

This video is actually very telling about the metroid series. I have heard that metroid has never been successful in Japan. The western market has essentially kept the franchise alive, and even then the series has only done just okay because of the native market disinterest
Yeah, there's this misplaced western viewpoint of the games being much more popular and influential than they are when in truth they're pretty niche. Funny enough the genre they've been credited with inspiring has a ton of entries nowadays, but whenever someone tries to pin a Japanese-developed game as being inspired by Metroid it's frequently not the case.
I tried it when it came out in my part of the world but it was difficult and the music and atmosphere were scary so not really suitable for a kid, I was reluctant to leave the ship because that was the only safe place. And of course back then video games weren't really considered a thing for adults, so it's not very surprising, they were appealing to a demographic that hardly existed at the time.

I mean, if that's what Nintendo was getting at with Marumari, no wonder it was localized to Morph Ball; calling a powerup for Samus a "rolly-polly" would be absolutely goofy in the otherwise creepy Sci-fi setting.

The bug is called a *Woodlouse* in most of the English speaking world. in the US it is called a *Pill Bug* . A *roly poly* is the act of rolling over forwards like a ball, so some people call Woodlice "Roly-Pollies". However depending on where you are in the English speaking world there are probably 20-30 different names this bug might be called.

I understand that no one is just going to know the scientific name of any given animal, but when talking to people over the internet, especially with a language barrier, there’s no better way to do it except showing an image of what you’re trying to talk about.
It's amazing, she's a VTuber, and much like Coco and Kizuna Ai spends a lot of time and effort to interact with her overseas audience. And she seems to have a very good grasp at humor - her delivery and her quick wit with her puns, and of course her taking an English word and "Korone-izing" it - BFG = BLT, Roly Poly = Roly Poopy. I cracked up when she went from PILL BUG to SPIELBUG - that kinda humor is not staged, she's just that quick witted enough to be able to turn English words and Japanese phrases into puns. I now understand why she has so many fans - she has great sharp wit and not only that she can keep that up while playing games the overseas audience loves to watch while also keeping her Japanese audience interested as well.

Now she's surpassed 1,000,000! The vtuber world has expanded a lot in the past year, and our sweet and funny doggo only shines brighter and brighter.
