Dame Joan Sutherland always seemed to be able to produce the most phenomenal notes during live performances. Her records are treasures, but the memories of the many live performances I saw and heard during the 1980s are something else again...LA STUPENDA... is forever and remains totally unique in opera and amongst the greatest singers of all time.
