I always thought the 86 Celtics were the greatest team ever, but these Celtic teams of the 60s are better, I just think they had an aura of invinciblity about them, they had an overwhelming confidence that no one would beat them, I mean its mind blowing what they accomplished, winning every year in the 60s except 67, 8 in a row, 11 in 13 years, a dominance unparalelled in the history of professional sports, not saying the 86 team wasn't great, they were, I just think the Celtic teams of the 60s were in a class by themselves, the match ups would be really interesting, Bird vs Havlicek, McHale vs Sam Jones, Parish vs Russell, Ainge vs Cousy, Dennis Johnson vs KC Jones Jones, ohhh that would be a dream match up of all time greats!!!

1969 celtics, a great model for the 2012 celtics. Russell then, 36 yrs old, Garnett now 36 as well. Hope they win this year.

Just an amzing playoff run for the Celts that yr. Against the odds. They just totally dominated the 1960s, much the same that UCLA did at college level.

I thought you had Wilt > Russell?
But yea, solid proof, Russell's Legendary 6 Game 7 Points orchestrated the victory.

Wilt was playing so badly that his coach didn't let him return. Russell had five fouls and the coach was screaming at Wilt to "Take him inside" but, it didn't happen because the Celtics fouled Wilt every time and he went 1-10 from the foul line. He then stopped shooting. That is why Wilt is considered a loser and Russell a winner. Watch Russell's screens on offense, how he runs the fast breaks. Wilt was almost as fast as Russell but he didn't run the transition. Remember, Russell had played 48 minutes per game for 14 games against Willis Reed and Wilt Chamberlain. Talk about tired.

@geocgeo what? You honestly think the celtics would have won? When you decide to not put your best player back in the game with the lead...shit hits the fan

Wilt 12>9 PPG, 50>>50%! At this time, it looks like Wilt's D is equal or even better than Russell's. Russell his entire career, has always had some BS Bailouts lol. Sam Jones, Havlicek, they all stepped up and hit HUGE shots.
    Russell on Sam Jones:
"11 times we trusted him with the last shot, 11 times we came away with the victory."
Somewhere read he said something similar like that about him..
Wilt could, or maybe even should have won the 1969&1970 Finals though, arguably 1968 as well.

But even when i look at Game 7, how Wilt played poorly and only had 14, why is that OKAY for russell?? I mean he had 12, and for him those low scores are somehow okay?? Just because Wilt has the potential for 30+, its like you always expect him to score 30, that he SHOULD score 30, while its okay for russell to be in the 10-15 points range..

Russell was a great offensive player but he did it without scoring. Really. He moved the ball on a one count so the defense could never adjust, he was an excellent passer and brought his defensive man away from the basket by setting screens. If Russell scored (he averaged 17 points in the finals), it was a bonus. Wilt would take his low post position, receive the ball, hold it, make everyone run around like crazy so that he could be credited with an assist. He would then try to back his opponent in, something he had a hard time doing against strong defensive players. Wilt killed his team's offense. When he was a scorer, he used the fade away which meant no offensive rebounds and no free throws. He didn't want the ball late in the game because he didn't want to take free throws. When Wilt scored 50 per game, the players voted him third in the MVP balloting behind Petitt and Russell. They knew what they were doing. Wilt entered the league with three hall of famers on his team then complained about his teammates. Wilt was traded twice in exchange for nothing. Nobody wanted him.
Today, none of these things matter but in the day before the three pointer when team defense was allowed and offensive fouls were called, they made Russell a better offensive player than Wilt even if he didn't score. Wilt finally learned. His last season he played like Russell; setting several screens each time downcourt and making it to the finals. Rea

Get outta here with TS man..
I think i count Playoffs 2x as much, double the value/importance/signifcance over the regular season when i rate players. I thought about equally, because RS=82 games, playoffs=4-28 games, RS so many more games but playoffs so much more important..
Well in 1968, once again it was Sam Jones bailing Russell out. In Game 5 he took over with 37, Russell's 8 pale in comparison to Wilt's 28. In Game 6 Russell actually you could say outplayed him, cont.

Celtics were 22 games out of 1st place. 4th place in their division. I guess the 1st 82 games meant nothing.
