You have to understand these guys played to the best of the confines of the game in that day. If given all the looser enforcement of rules, aerated padded courts, nutrition, medicine, training programs, first-class accommodations, and fancy sneakers of today, they would be as good as any player today. Go watch the Old-Timers game from 1984, which starred a lot of past greats from the 50's and 60's. They could still ball.
the 1964 finals was the very best nba finals ever because the warriors and celtics were led by the prime versions of both goats being wilt chamberlain and bill russell
Some of you modern snobs need to learn some history. Players back then don't seem as athletic or "flashy" as the players do today because 1) dribbling was stricter and more tightly enforced in terms of what is a travel or carry, and 2) fancy dunks and alley-oops were considered hotdogging and you would've been benched by the coach. Not to mention the different conditions then, from the shoes to the court to the rims.
@SuperZiggyboi Yeah Wilt was really unathletic, he could bench over 500 lbs in his 40s, but that's nothing compared to Dwight Howard's max bench press of 365, in his prime no less. Yeah, keep telling yourself they weren't athletic.
@MIKESOWELL you cant use anything from 1980 and up in relation to what i am saying, that was a completley different era with some of the most amazing fastbreak offences (showtime) (MJ bulls) the 60's were a completley different era mostly center oriented in my opinion
These guys look like a pickup squad at the YMCA, inclucing Russell and Chamberlain. They would have a hard time beating a Division II college team in today's era.
@@HiNRGboy Bro what does stats have to do with his comment? dude is talking about the eye test. the 60s just doesnt hold up even to the 80s in terms of basketball. I can score 50 points easy playing against 5 year old kids and have good stats.
@SuperZiggyboi I disagree with that. Look at some games from the 1970s-1990s and see how quickly they score in transition. Today, a lot of guys will selfishly take a bad shot instead of looking for the easiest basket.
@Blaiyan common Rick Barry 96 -98% FTP through out his whole carer. What I didn't know is Guy Rodgers shot them like that. Thats how all the 70% and Players should shoot it
@MerkinMuffly oh good for you you named ONE PERSON FROM THE ERA, i could count on one hand the athletic beasts from that era my point is look at this game compared to a game today. nuff said
That was not Wilts finest stretch of play thats for sure. He looked absolutely gassed tho. Prolly has something to do with taking a dreadful Warriors team to the Finals.
And then 58 years later, last month, the San Francisco (Golden State) Warriors got revenge on the Boston (New England) Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals 🏀🇺🇸💙🤍💛

A Division II college team, or any modern team for that matter, never played under the kinds of conditions the guys in this video had to go through.

1964 Cow Palace, San Francisco, Warriors and Celtics, Boston wins. 2022, Chase Center, San Francisco, Warriors and Celtics, Golden State wins.
Cow palace unlucky no Boston were better 1964
Now we have a rematch coming

@MIKESOWELL i guess i mean them being able to actually finish a fast break, it's pretty sad actually

I have wilt Chamberlains jersey San Francisco Warriors jersey
Pistol213rd I love wilt chamberlain, unstoppable in the low post, when he wheel towards the basket invincible

this looks like a city league game...sloppy and all one handed dribbles...and what up with the hook shot by heinson?
These are some of the greatest players of all time. Might wanna go look up their stats before you and others shit all over them like that. Rediculous.
@SuperZiggyboi Define "athletic."
