I imagine that if the plane crashed and all the players died, the NBA would have conducted an emergency draft of players from other teams to fill the Lakers' roster. The team likely still would have moved to Los Angeles the next year, but without Elgin Baylor and others, it would not have been as good, even with the addition of Jerry West. The Lakers' history would have been different throughout the 1960's, but over the following decades it likely would have become the premier franchise that it ultimately became.
