    my 15month pixel 6 also have this exactly same problem. The glass was separated from the frame and the water splash got in and broke my lcd.

    Sad that it had to be an entire display replacement, but good job nonetheless. Maybe you can recycle the old display and get some money back? As the oled's fine, it's probably just a shortage somewhere on the driver that they might be able to replace

    @FR4M3Sharma ปีที่แล้ว +15

    The bond between the OLed and Digitizer is kept with that UV Glue, it probably only got detached from some specific corner of the screen assembly and thus made it stopped working, I think detaching the digitizer and then re-gluing it back to the OLed with UV glue might have made it work, but that's more money spent for even more hassle and may not even yeild a working result.

    Nice to see that certain phones can be repaired after all!

  • @coffeemakerbottomcracked

    I have used Pixel 6 (exactly this color) as a daily driver for about 8 months now, and because it is mid-range and not a flagship, they seemingly used cheaper OLED displays, if you look at the screen at certain angle, you can see some kind of "rainbow effect" High-end OLEDS on flagships don't have this "problem". My Pixel 6 has slight green tint at upper right corner, so not the best screen thats for sure.

    • @RestoreTechnique
      @RestoreTechnique  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wouldn't call the Pixel 6 mid range. Upon release it was the 2nd best phone in the pixel range. Someone else mentioned the cheaper OLED screen though, I didn't notice anything lower quality in my limited usage of it. My housemate probably wouldn't notice either way.

  • @majong_da
    @majong_da ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Nowadays touch matrix is integrated into the OLED layers and flex cable is going right in the bottom of the display where's tear between screen and plastic frame was found. My guess is that the touchscreen itself just died because of the water

  • @an3k
    @an3k ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I loudly screamed when I saw you squeezing IPA into the layers of the display. When I got a tiny bit of IPA onto the side of the layers of my Pixel 2 XL, it "ate" the OLEDS and I left behind with a black "dot".

    • @RestoreTechnique
      @RestoreTechnique  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have never heard of IPA damaging any OLED screen before, that's very weird. IPA can not eat into the glass structure of the OLED. Phone technicians have been using IPA to clean phone screens for years. I've never had IPA do any damage to a display before, and I've repaired over a thousand phones. 🤷‍♂️
      Edit: typo

    • @RestoreTechnique
      @RestoreTechnique  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@uctm0fgwitdtbrp1-zqlm9sq6 iPod touch's used LCD's, not OLED displays.
      What you're describing sounds like IPA getting into the backlight of the LCD, which is layers of thin translucent plastic that appear blotchy and distorted if liquid gets in between them.
      Edit: Sorry I meant to say in my original comment; "I have never heard of IPA damaging any OLED screen before"

    • @an3k
      @an3k ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RestoreTechnique Yeah, I was surprised as well. But maybe it happened because it was a P-OLED display which doesn't use glass but polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) or polyimide plastics (PI) as the substrate? (I googled a bit ;)

    Either a factory defect with the glue or the "housemate" has been abusing the phone...probably by sitting on it in her back pocket causing it to flex repeatedly. Why didn't he check the liquid damage indicators?

  • @XodiumLabs

    Kinda reminds me of what happened to my roommate's iPhone X. Went through the washer. Phone did a good job at keeping out the liquid, but...a little bit got in through the earpiece and killed the proximity sensor which caused the phone to bootloop. Apple refused to repair it at any price, and try as I might I couldn't get it to work with the proximity sensor still attached, so I removed it. Which unfortunately also meant Face ID no longer worked. And because Apple is so hardcore on serializing their parts, means the poor thing will never work 100% again even though a simple screen swap at an Apple store would be enough to bring it back fully. So it goes.
    Glad to see the Pixel 6 made a full recovery. And in contrast to Apple's stuff it doesn't scream at you for using a 3rd party screen, or a replacement fingerprint reader (after recalibration, of course).

    • @higihups
      @higihups ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Would Apples self repair be an option with that? While not cheaper than them repairing the phone, it could work again, as they will pair the new parts for you remotely.

      Yeah I think iPhone's water proofing is better, the screen is fastened down with clips, not just adhesive, so there's less stress on the adhesive, which is important if it deteriorates over time.
      The lightning port is also screwed down tight against it's adhesive.
