I had long forgotten The Littlest Hobo which I saw in reruns in 1966 or 1967. One night 15 years later this song popped into my head. I almost started to cry as I started thinking of times gone by and how much I had loved the show. Nostalgia is brutal.
By being born in 1958, I am a member of the first generation of TV children, and this series meant a lot to us boys. Dogs meant the world to most of the boys of my era, and shows with dogs in them were our favorites. I met a lot of dogs like Hobo in the 1960's. They were aimless dogs who would drift into our neighborhood for a few days, then drift out again and head out somewhere else----trying to stay a few paws ahead of a dog catcher.
The greatest television series about an unbelievable dog since lassie. The song makes you cry and it really hits you hard especially for anyone whoever owned a pet and it has now died, this theme song really does something to you when you think about it!!!!!
THIS is the 1960's Littlest Hobo theme song that I remember most vividly as a child even tho I haven't heard it in decades. I thought it was wonderful that Hobo's real name is London and that I was born in London Ontario, watching the show in black & white on CFPL TV. My family & I moved to Toronto when I was 6. Sometime in the late 1960's we went to the Sportman's Show at the Canadian National Exhibition and got to meet London, and all the German Shepherd dogs that starred on the show. I'm pretty sure there were 5 of them!
Yeah, that’s what I read, actually just a few minutes ago! I happened to think about the ‘60s show today, don’t remember what set me to thinking about it, but I grew nostalgic to hear the old theme song. That’s what brought me here. I was born in 1950, so I was a teenager when I watched The Littlest Hobo in syndication. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen it since, and that’s a shame, since it was a good show.
Mitch! We are sharing a brain my man. I used to cry at the end of every Littlest Hobo episode too! I didn't get why he had to leave every time. I used to tell my folks I wasn't crying while the tears streamed down my face!
This one is the only version I remember, since I didn’t even know there was a newer incarnation of The Littlest Hobo until today. I thought about the show today and the theme song, which brought me here to listen to it again.
Wow - I finaaly found the Littlest Hobo that I remember as a toddler!! My favourite show as a kid - like Lassie only so much better. Thank you for posting - this song perfectly captures the wanderlust of the sixties.
I thank you from the bottom of my dog loving heart! THIS is the version I heard that I remember from when the series aired in the USA when I was a child.
Yeah! This is the theme song I was looking for. Thanks for posting it! It’s been so long since I heard it, I wasn’t remembering the words exactly right. I used to watch The Littlest Hobo in syndication back in the 1960s (I was born in 1950) and really enjoyed it, as did many other people, but I haven’t seen it since. A shame, it was a good show.
Magical TV for a young fella in sixties. This wonderful show really helped make me fall in love with all dogs. I think David Carradine Kung Fu is a steal from this show, changing the Canine into Caine!
Both the tv show and the song brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it. I'm currently looking for all 114 episodes of the show on DVD. If anyone knows where i can find to purchase please let me know. Thanks again
I always remember this song from another earlier time. I recorded it onto a cd disc and enjoy hearing it. Thank you for posting this song and God Bless 😊🙏
I saw the dogs at the Sportsman show at the CNE one year in the late 60s. There were 5 or 6 dogs, and they did all sorts of tricks. There was a big indoor pool that the dogs swam in too.
OMG!! I must be around the exact same age as you because I also went to the CNE in the late 1960's with my parents and met the Littlest Hobo dogs. I was amazed to find out that there was London and ALSO 4 or 5 OTHER German Sheppards that were the stars of the TV show! I got a black & white photo of them, signed by their trainer. One of the Sheppards leaned over and licked my Dad on the cheek! I said: "DAD! YOU WERE KISSED BY A STAR!" I reacted as if he had been kissed by Marilyn Monroe or Farrah Fawcett! I was so thrilled! Everyone loved it! LOL!
This version of the original theme song is much better than the other version for this show. I exclude the second TV show of the same name with a different theme song.
I think was on CFTO on Thursday nights at 7:30. I found out from a breeder that these were not normal German Shepards. They were bred with another breed to get the black and white color
If an adult asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I excitedly told ‘em “A HOBO!” I blame this TV show for my lack of enthusiasm about the whole “work” thing! 🐶🚂😂
That is the dog from 1963. It can't also be called "London", too, can it? I am sure they used two different dogs and the one in the 1980's was called "London". They probably named the second dog London in an effort to have people think it was the same dog. Either that, or London lived for over 25 years.
It could very well be the same family of german shepherds. Someone should look into that breeding stock: Docile, obedient dogs who can learn novel instructions in just a few lessons. Once you got that trait down, you of course want to keep the line going, not only for television/entertainment purposes, but also as comfort/assistants, police/guard work, and other helping capacities.
London's fine. He's at the farm, chasing ducks and rabbits and always getting into charging matches with the friendly bulls. And on weekends, children from in the city come and play with him.

This is the version I remember as a child, the man singing with the “deep voice”. Thank you so much!
Yes, the best theme song they had during those 3 years.

I was there too,and saw them as well as the owner!
When i was a kid I use to cry when the show ended with this song. I still get a lump now!

As a little boy who grew up with "The Littlest Hobo", I always wondered what Hobo was up to between episodes!
This is so much better than the other version and i its so much better than maybe tomorrow just how i remember it from my child hood
For years I have been looking for.this version
Same here.
Me to i dont like the other version this is the one i know from my child hood
Never heard this version before. I grew up with the "Maybe Tomorrow" theme song.
This one is the only version I remember, since I didn’t even know there was a newer incarnation of The Littlest Hobo until today. I thought about the show today and the theme song, which brought me here to listen to it again.
I remember both versions with love and joy, my eyes cried when I listen this song.😢❤
I pity the two sadsacks that gave this thumbs down.
Yeah! They must be really cynical grumps not to enjoy this old theme song. What nostalgia!
One of my whimsical childhood memories resurfaces. Thank you.
me too
ahh, my childhood. great memories... me and my Mom watching this...with milk and oreos....

Unfortunately I'm pretty old now - 87 - but I still DREAM of travelling. Even as a child my favourite song was "FARAWAY PLACES".
never let go of your dreams buddy!! We need them
This is the version I remember and have loved since childhood, thanks for posting, thought I'd never find it again.
Por fin la encontré, excelente serie de mi niñez Hobo el pequeño vagabundo , con el tema y la voz original del intérprete. Fueron años maravillosos
I thank you from the bottom of my dog loving heart! THIS is the version I heard that I remember from when the series aired in the USA when I was a child.
that was awesome... for those of us who seen this on tv we know what we are missing... the world is pretty screwed now but we got to see better days.

It was the best show at the time for kids and adults alike
London was a role model for me, my master and I watched the 60s version many times.

you may very well be correct
Very interesting take! I never thought of that before, but you may be on to something!
Well, that’s a little far-fetched to me, but interesting, nonetheless.
This is the kind of show we need now.

There are a fair amount of the original series on TH-cam

The greatest dog show series of all time with a dynamite theme song !!!!!
This is better than the latter one.
Yep the original television series from 1963 it was terrific, even better than Lassie and Rin Tin Tin by far !!!!!

The show played ina small town in Pennsylvania so many times it became an escape from the madness.
In my opinion littlest hobo had lassie beat
I Agree And I’m American

This dog is also london? He did both versions? Wow cool. _(unless there are multiple nam london)_
Yeah, just like SuperDog this beast can shift the expansion of reality 🙈
Dog seems mostly confused and or scared

I think London from the 1980s remake was a descendant (grandson or great-grandson) of the original London from the 1960s series.
It could very well be the same family of german shepherds. Someone should look into that breeding stock: Docile, obedient dogs who can learn novel instructions in just a few lessons. This version sounds dopey. The other one is beautiful enough to make people cry.
This is the best one from the ORIGINAL TV series 60s - trust the dogos
Interesting and I'd have the opposite opinion
HaHa. Whichever version you heard as a kid is always the best one, for me it's this one, for others it isn't.
I miss this song, at least now, I know who to thank for it.❤❤❤.
