Just came across this song again after about 45 years and now I’m obsessed! A song with meaningful lyrics that you can hear and understand, and a wonderful catchy tune. Love it and now must find Kelly’s Heroes again too! 🙂
I truly believe this is one of the Greatest songs ever. Kelly’s Heroes is my favorite movie. Brings me back over 50 years ago sitting down with my Dad to watch this movie called Kelly’s Heroes. I was around 7 years old . The movie , song and that particular memory with my dad will stay with me till I die.
I'm with you. I can revel in classical masterpieces and music far more sophisticated but none elicit the feelings "Burning Bridges" does. It's weird and I don't get it. I first heard, like you, as a kid and every time I listen to it, it's as wonderful as the first time.
Well if we don't tell and show them they will never know, a knowledge of musical history is as important as the knowledge of any other art form. The appreciation of what was very good or great only comes many many years after it's origin.
I always think of this song as the theme song of my oldest son. He burned many, many bridges with friends and family. We lost him to suicide in 2014, he was a veteran and I tried several times to get him help. But like the song says he burned those bridges. I always hoped he found the peace in death that he never had in life. I miss you son and always loved you
I worked at a drive-in theater when this came out. It was shown 2 times a night and this song still reminds me of Kelly's Heroes and fun times at the drive-in......man...the good old days.
When i listen to this song it reminds me of my brother, he recommended me to go see this movie. The last movie he saw before going to Vietnam . He never came back alive !
The term “Burning Bridges”…. Commit oneself to an irreversible course. For example, Denouncing one's boss in a written resignation means one has burned one's bridges, or Turning down one job before you have another amounts to burning your boats. Filmed at the end of American period during the controversial Viet Nam war…. This film was about a bunch of Soldiers basically snubbing the “war machine” in favor of taking a risk for personal gain.. by going for the gold. Their actions and had a side effect of beneficially aiding in the advance and securing the town for the Army who rolled in as the “Heroes” moved on with their prize… ….. effectively burning their bridges… Connection to the movie….
It's something that can't be explained. Just a cool but slightly sad song. Part of it is the appealing overall musicality of it. Might even call it "catchy" like they used to.
There is, and will stay, just ONE 60s/70s generation...with music that is still playing in movies and commercials.....what wonderous music.........Luckily, my kids were born in the mid 70s and loved ALL the music I listened to.......
i served with AFKN (Korea) in '69 and our CO had a hardon for Montivani style music and would only allow very mild rock or pop music, some of the night Dj's got in deep doo doo for playing the music we all wanted to hear. Not quite a Good Morning Vietnam situation but we had our moments.
My grandpa passed 11 years ago today and I found myself thinking about old memories. We used to watch Kelly's Heroes out in the garage on his TV above his shop desk, and this song was one of his favorites. RIP Papa
Sounds like you adored your grandfather. We share your pain. They don't call them Grand Father's for nothing. I hope they understand how important it was to have them in our lives.

Years ago an Atlanta TV station used to do movies after the 11PM news was finished. The male anchor would always make a joke about that night's movie. This Night's movie was Kelly's Heros. The joke went something like "Kelly's heroes is about a group of men that rob a bank only to find Hogans Hero's beat them to it" Every time I see that movie or hear this song I am reminded of that night!
A real classic , but about personal regrets , it could very easily be the anthem for my own life , wasted chances , lost opportunities ....yeah , we,re all the same .
I love looking at old photos of how my mother dressed me in the 70s. Plaid Toughskin bellbottom jeans 😊 I love the bold patterns and colors. At the end of this video, I love what the women are wearing!

@@judymarlene3414 That's funny because every time I show someone the photos they always use the words, cute and adorable. 🙂 It truly was a simpler time, we didn't have access to much info or shallow online relationships. I lived rural and low income, I played with any toy I was given and played outdoors. This can be recreated in the modern era if parents choose to keep toys basic and take kids to museums and old cemeteries and any place that inspires curiosity and wonder. Judy, you can experience this now, it isn't too late.
@@naturalnashuan Oh I know…..I despise at lot of the way the world is know…..I see how hard it is for parents now, kids are obese and unhappy because they spend all day on a phone or iPad…..I just see how my grandma grew up and how happy she is ……and thank you very much for your kind advice…..and I might add I adore the music from the sixties and seventies…..but I also like ww2 era music and some from the 50’s…..I hope you have a wonderful holiday.

Have fond memories of this song. My older brother and I were allowed to stay up late to watch Kelly's Heroes on the TV. we were 5 and 6 respectively. Became both of our favourite film.
I'm right here with you. I've been watching a lot of music videos from the 60's and 70's. It takes me to a time when my relatives, mother and father were still alive
6-15-2024…I’m 70 years old now and listening to this track and watching this video reminds me of a time in my mid-20’s when we blended race and ethnicity pretty damn well. That was back in the day when Americans were taught to focus on our similarities instead of our differences. My, my, my has our political leadership-both parties included, let our country down. We need another Elvis, Lennon or Dylan, maybe even a Jerry Garcia, to SHOCK this country into A NEW REALITY. Everyone us talking (internet-iphones) but nobody is listening! Who hasn't in their life in times past, burned a bridge or two behind them,in youth they thought would last? Going down Life's Highway, ever in such a hurry, passing by opportunity that is cast aside in a flurry, only to look back in sad regret, thinking maybe that's where you should be,and yet, it's too late, another bridge burned behind you like yesterday.
"Hey you don't want in this thing you don't get in this thing, I cut you on everything, I don't need you, 60ft of bridge I can pick up almost anywhere....schmuck" Oddball

***
Oddball : [Later: Oddball is looking through binoculars at the bridge] Still up!
Oddball : [planes fly and bomb the bridge] ... No it ain't. See what sending out them negative waves did, Moriarty?
Moriarty : That ain't my fault, Oddball, I've done nothing but have good thoughts about that damn bridge ever since we left!
I love this song even if it makes me face all my regrets.
I totally enjoy listening to this song. Brings Back Memories. I've listened to this song in the Navy. Retire Navy Veteran Vietnam ⚓️
Thank you for your service Sir.
@gigantor62 Good morning. Your Welcome. Thanks for your comment 👍 🙂
My brothers most favourite song played it for him today on his journey to heaven 😢
❤❤❤❤❤
😔💞💕
One of the greatest songs and one of the greatest movies of all time. Bar none!
A real classic , but about personal regrets , it could very easily be the anthem for my own life , wasted chances , lost opportunities ....yeah , we,re all the same .
My thoughts each time I listen...
That's the truth
What a wonderful song…..I just love the 70s fashions.
I love looking at old photos of how my mother dressed me in the 70s. Plaid Toughskin bellbottom jeans 😊 I love the bold patterns and colors. At the end of this video, I love what the women are wearing!
@@naturalnashuanI’ll bet you looked so cute and adorable…I’ve seen my mom and the way my grandmom dressed and her brothers too,the girls looked so feminine and like you said really vibrant colors…..and I also loved the guys hair and their fashions….it just seemed liked such a happy time.
My God, was this REALLY fifty-three years ago? The movie and the song seem like yesterday!
And it's just as good as it ever was too!
Nuthin' but positive waves!
Great movie great song ah! The 70s.
Watched a double feature, Kelly's Heroes and Patton.
Thank you to whoever loaded this . I saw Kelly's heroes with my deceased brother. The song is one of my life favourites. But I never knew what the singers looked like. I will cherish this.
This was on American TV at the time.
Love this.
I just saw KELLY’S HEROES ON TH-cam . My FAVOURITE MOVIE OF all time . Every time this song came on I would press the replay button on my remote 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 .
I swear it must be fifty years since I last heard this. Amazed I still remembered a couple of the lines.
These engines are the fastest in any tanks in the European theater of operations. You see man, we like to feel we can get out of trouble, quicker then we got into it.
Go oddball!
The Taliban man have got it all now mate.🤣.. Good ole Joe .
@@TheTaz1999 yup thanks Biden
Stop hitting me with the negative vibes so early in the morning... 😂🤣
@@garethleahy6739 Negative waves. :)
Wonder how many of these men and women are still alive and watching this. It had class
The older ones would be in their 70s and 80s, the kids might be in their mid 60s.
I've respected and always loved this song, and learned!
I have always loved this song from the first time I heard it. It is good to see and hear the actual people sing it. They did a fantastic job.
Have fond memories of this song. My older brother and I were allowed to stay up late to watch Kelly's Heroes on the TV. we were 5 and 6 respectively. Became both of our favourite film.
It is impossible to listen to this song and not have an image of Clint Eastwood in a Jeep, in a rain storm during an artillery barrage in your head.
The song brings me back to a time that we will never ever see again. At least it was a time of promise and hope. Never again..😪😒
I'm right here with you. I've been watching a lot of music videos from the 60's and 70's. It takes me to a time when my relatives, mother and father were still alive
Yep
Times were simpler and people more honest/caring towards one another.
Yeah never again. We're living in the prelude to the anti-christ times now.
@@w8taminute278 And you can tell because..........
It's a shame, were going to lose Clint someday. I grew up with him. Not many actors can go from T V to the silver screen and have the success he had

Peeeerrfeck!
My 88 year old mother loves Oddball...woof woof

6-15-2024…I’m 70 years old now and listening to this track and watching this video reminds me of a time in my mid-20’s when we blended race and ethnicity pretty damn well. That was back in the day when Americans were taught to focus on our similarities instead of our differences. My, my, my has our political leadership-both parties included, let our country down. We need another Elvis, Lennon or Dylan, maybe even a Jerry Garcia, to SHOCK this country into A NEW REALITY. Everyone us talking (internet-iphones) but nobody is listening!
Listen, Listen, Listen….Brian Wilson
Who hasn't in their life in times past, burned a bridge or two behind them,in youth they thought would last? Going down Life's Highway, ever in such a hurry, passing by opportunity that is cast aside in a flurry, only to look back in sad regret, thinking maybe that's where you should be,and yet, it's too late, another bridge burned behind you like yesterday.
Some of us, are the ones who get the bridges burned on.

"Hey you don't want in this thing you don't get in this thing, I cut you on everything, I don't need you, 60ft of bridge I can pick up almost anywhere....schmuck"
Oddball
One of the Best lines of so many from that movie. -- Archie Bunker was great in there too, They can't make movies like this anymore, Hollyweird has lost the magic.
Archie, of course Carroll O'Conner the actor one of the best lines from the great movie, I agree.
Hey, look, Oddball, three Shermans, it's easy. 60 feet of bridge, I can't just do that. I need almost a hundred guys, where am I gonna find a hundred men, just like that...?" Looks, out the window at the band...
Loved the Movie and The song is Off the Charts…..WOW
For a sad song, I'm overwhelmed by all of them positive waves.
This song is awesome and I love it.
What a Terrificly Fantastic Song, that Makes me again believe in Song's, like Aquarius, Bless the Beast's n the Children, Niel Diamonds, song Coming To America, "Up Up with People", Gloria, Staying Alive, NOEL NOEL, and OH So Many Other's? That the revolving Turntables in My head 🗣️🗣️ just keep Spinning, and I'm Delirious with fond but also Sad memories of those Great Bygone Day's of yester Year's.
Alas just keep it up, and continue too remind US all of the Great thing's We had in the Past. Feeling the positive waves, man.❤🤘😎🤘
It's good to hear something righteous and hopeful for a change.
Hi man...what are you doing...I'm drinking wine and eating cheese and catching some rays, you know.
I watched Kelly's Hero's when I was in High School. During our lunch break they played 20 minutes of the movie at a time in the main auditorium. I always loved this song. Takes me back to my youth.
One of my older brothers taught me to use the Radiogram when I was 2yrs old, so I could play this song (on the 45) over and over again. Unfortunately for my parents, I would get up and play it at 6am, every day. Still absolutely love it!! It's my favourite song ever!
Great old song that seems to have been forgotten with the passage of time.
The more I hear this song the more it hits home. True love lost for ever. So sad.
