I subscribed and started watching for your boating videos, but your "how to" mechanical videos are just as good and are very informative. Thanks for taking the time and putting forth the effort to make them, More boating vids would be nice though!
As many of these Yamaha 1200's having this same issue, often times putting a hole in the block, I would just disconnect oil pump and pre mix the gas myself. At least that way you know it will be getting lubricated.
I'm doing the same on my xlt1200 and I must say that it's a lot easier out of the haul to break it down. I split the casing and replaced the crank seals. Also found the stator cover o ring failed.
I am currently rebuilding my 04 xlt 1200 the power valve fell into piston 1 and I was wondering how to slide the piston on lol I just got a ring compressor but turns out I don’t need one lol
You guys really don''t know how lucky you were! That skirt that broke off the cylinder usually ends up cracking the block when it falls into the spinning crankshaft. If you had run it another 30 seconds, I believe it would have.
Just a note for anyone having issues with these skis - MAKE SURE YOU INSPECT AND REPLACE THE OIL INJECTION LINES. Very very important. Over time they shrink up / pull off the carb causing a cylinder to not get oiled properly. Best to cut longer lines and clamp them on MUCH tighter than stock. Stock uses zip ties and they can fall off.
Use strips of velcro to hold the Rings in place and then push the cylinder down over it doesn't take to people and don't forget to put a block off D plate and wave eater clips because it will destroy a piston if you don't that was a factory flaw
I believe that circlip was installed wrong. The ends of the circlip should be away from the the small hole on the piston. That is according to the service manual.
Did you resolve the issue that caused the failure first? Like lean carb settings or a air leak on the block plugs? If not it wont last 10-20 hours.......
thanks guy for your time I wish more people helped like you guys God bless

David Costin oh I'm sure it would have. It usually turns out to be a nightmare. Lucky this time. Thanks for watching
Put a rag around piston and stuff it down crank as you remove clips .

Great video, all the information helps. Saved money doing this yourself the mechanic wants 1500 ,ouch.
Mine didn’t come with the thrust bearing for the pistons bu we still used the old ones.
