You're onto it! Open that airbox up, and let the engine breath. I can see an after market box coming out with removable filters in those intake vents, hopfully removing the need to take the tank off everytime you need to clean the filter. Good post with lots of detail. Thank you.

Just a wild guess that Honda's engineers took induction system airflow and the entire bike's aerodynamics into account. And maybe designed it so dust doesn't get sucked up into that hard to change air filter so fast.

Hello Clifton, I use the transalp regularly on dirt and gravel tracks, as you see the possibility of installing an easy access pre-filter type KTM or Yamaha Tenere so as not to have to disassemble half the bike to get to the main filter, and thus do this work more occasionally , all the best..

I'm pretty sure the limiting difference that applies to the US model that causes it make less horsepower than the European model is just the ECU map at the absolute top end of the rev range. It's to do with US vs European noise requirements. I don't think you're going to see any gains at all from intake modification without a remap.

i feel like rain could become a problem if you remove some of these pipes.

Well the air box sets up kind of high, it’s above the engine. It did rain on me a little bit last night when I tested out the cruise control which works great by the way and I had no issues with rain staying inside the air box because it has a hole in the bottom of it as well as a drain hose for any moisture from collecting inside

To me, it does'nt sound like you are totally convinced on the theory yourself. Do the mods, stick it on a dyno, and wow us all. DNA say their filter is good for up to 3hp on its own. Don't apply a cumulative factor to the DNA plus your airbox mods and seek to claim its all down to to chopping the airbox. One step reported at a time will be credible, and could possibly turn you into being thought of as a genius. Going up against the Honda Engineers is a brave move, imo of course. Best. G. 15:16

The air box or snorkel is designed to keep water out of the intakes during water crossings.

can you glue some kind of cloth out side to keep water and dust out?

I really think you need to dyno the before and after to find out if it helps.

I have seen a few dynos ran on the Transalp 750 here in the US and they all seem to run around 70-72 HP and 47-48 LB-FT at the rear wheel. So I have made an appointment to have it dyno tested to see the results after these mods and hopefully will get a video results report coming soon.

Are you going to de-cat this bike?

      Not for sure just yet
