      It wasn't too bad and went quite fast considering the size. Just have to move the cutting disc around in the cut so the material doesn't get red hot. Thanks for watching!

    Looking PRET-TY GOOD.
    Even if you didn’t really save money making them you have the satisfaction of knowing you made it yourself and that you used good quality bearings that will last.

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup, for sure. The main reason for making these myself was the shipping time for the eBay v-groove wheels I looked up. They weren't pricey per say but I needed them asap.

    • @jrperrotta
      @jrperrotta 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well that's not true as the actual bearings were purchased and inserted into the v groove roller shell. There's no way of knowing how well the inserted bearing will last as they are of a small design with tiny rollers balls within that may prove to be of high quality or may not and fail quickly under load.

    Good video, I have to build the same wheels on my lathe for my circle sawmill’s carriage. My lathe is a Atlas TH 54 with a 9”” swing and a verticals milling attachment ( I hope it’s powerful enough for the job ).... thanks for sharing...Gary in Michigan, U.S.A.

    Nice work man. If you make it at home, it’s definitely home made. You may be using a lathe but it’s a simple lathe and it looked like you eyeballed the tapers which is not easy to do. If you used one, I didn’t see a taper attachment. Keep it up!

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I turned the compound rest on the cross slide to 45 degrees (both ways) while hand feeding the cutting edge. Thus the rugged finish but the angle was exactly 45. It's quite hard to eyeball the taper. Thanks for watching!

    A trick I learned from repairing Overhead Electric Crane collector systems is that the Vee wheels running on an angle iron rail glide better, smoother, and last longer with a radius midway down in the vee gap . The lower surface of the wheel is actually moving faster than the top surfaces causing excess friction. With a radius midway in the vee gap only the pinnacle of the radius contacts the surface of the angle iron rails significantly reducing the contact area. I hope I explained it well enough to understand.

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, you explained superbly. I noticed that in real life too. I presumed that the faster moving outer part of the contact surface on the wheel will just wear out faster and the contact area will be reduced to smaller radius. It was just easier to make'em exactly at 45 degrees in the lathe. ;) Thanks for the info and thanks for watching! ;)

    I enjoyed each video in the two previous series I watched, but with this series multiple videos are missing: #'s 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 27. The work that was completed in the missing videos is evident, but the process is missing. Oh well, on the the next video. Btw, it's all good stuff even with the missing segments. God bless.

    can i ask what brand/model/specs your lathe is and if you purchased it or inherited it
    good product from just a bit of steel drop and some bearings, i wonder if some sort of steel wire/brush riding infront of the wheels and clearing sawdust/debris off the angle iron right before the wheels pass over would be a cheap/easy way to improve the gliding on the head and prevent jams/derailing and the power head climbing up on sawdust higher on one side compared to the other

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My father bought the lathe dirt cheap something like 15 years ago. I'm pretty much the sole user of it now. When it comes to the sawmill I will add some scrapers in front of the wheels and probably steel wire brushes on the wheels to get all of the sawdust away and off from both the rails and wheels. But we'll see.

    Hi Donn.
    Best videos on this subject on Y0uTube by far!
    When will U be doing the series on a band saw mill?Can`t wait!

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Fujiar. This is actually a band saw mill I'm building right now. At first I planned on building another chain saw mill but since then I've decided to give the band saw mill a go. Just now, this very moment, I ordered the first blade for mocking things up on the saw carriage, it should arrive in a couple of days. So stay tuned, I hope you like the rest of the videos in this series too. Thanks for watching! ;)

      @fujiar0018 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Donn.
      Thanks for a quick reply.Appreciated.
      Sorry about the wrong message about the mill.What I actually meant was the saw carriage.I would like to see a video of how U made it and what it looks like.Also something about the chainsaw mill.
      Some of your ideas I like and if it is ok would like to use them in the building of my own trailer if that is ok by U.
      Here is my e-mail: fujiar.sc@gmail .com.
      I want to share some of my ideas and comment on what U have built and get your comments,exchange ideas.
      I have a different idea on a saw carriage that will enable me to handle logs up to 1.5m in diameter and am interested in your opinion.
      We have standard lengths of steel in 6m lengths available.Is that the length of your trailer?

      Do you have specific dimensions for certain size wheels and angle irons? Wheel od, groove width/depth, center bore, bearing id/od/width, etc. I have also seen angle irons with the L up and wheels not contacting sides. Do you think that is an acceptable solution?

    tipico, quiero ahorrar unos dolares: compro fierro y con el mismo torno que fabricaron al ed-209 me hago las ruedas para el porton de mi casa. Tipico torno que todos tenemos en casa, buen video .___.
