    As I am lazy, and not very technologically inclined, I'd love to see someone take that screen out, and put in an actual display that could be linked to the game with a RaspberryPI or something to show in-game feedback on the panel.

      That would be really cool, but extremely difficult to implement as it would require elite to make certain data accessible in a manner that I don't believe it is.

      @truckerallikatuk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@chris2746 Precisely. The data Elite makes available is only in logs, there's only log data and key/button presses as interaction. Also you need the right arduino to run it as a game controller for it to work. The only easy thing to do is make some fake screens. Source: I made myself a button box for my setup.

    • @BenSollis
      @BenSollis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem is one of cost! To do this right you need a Nextion touch display (costly) connected to your controller of choise (Arduino/ESP32, EDM32). Add in production cost for that is way above what the average joe-player will pay, and to make it lucrative. I could build this in a day with touch screen and write the necessary on day 2. The cost factor is huge. A decent nextion will run to 50 euro, an arduino 10 euro, development time, then we have the problem of 3d printing, costs and results. And because this is 'niche' the audience is limited.

      I use velcro strips to fix my Virpil CM3 throttle to the corner of my desk. Because I use a HOSASAT setup the desk mounts on either side are both reserved for sticks. The velcro works surprisingly well. There's only a tiny amount of movement when first pushing the throttle forwards, but after that its solid.

    I really like the idea of this controller! Possibly the next iteration will have customised button forms to make it look more like the in-game ones. An functional display would be nice, and colour changing lights for the hat switches so that if something is active, or not, can be seen at a glance.
    Mountings for joysticks and throttles are severely limited. If they could produce mounting options for joysticks, throttles, and the panels, they'd be on to a real winner. As things are, people have to make their own mounting solutions for their chairs or desks with varying degrees of success and quality. The mounts that are available tend to be, as far as I can find, for racing sims and flight sims that are a whole PC/monitor/peripheral solution that are not feasible for most home situations. Most people just want something to attach to their chair, or clamp on to a desk.

    The USB power would be enough in most cases. My Corsair Strafe RGB has two USB cables for example, but only one is needed, as the second is for the onboard 2-port USB hub. One single USB handles all the keyboard inputs and RGB lighting (per key). I'm sure that doesn't have 110+ RGB lights in it.

Its this and Star Wars Squadrons that make me want to have a HOTAS setup. But they are expensive, and buttons are usually the biggest issue. Nice idea but dies it function practically and actually. You would need slot mounts on chair or attach gripping/ rubber tubing to bottom surface. But it's a very nice idea cos as you say the VR users will be able to find buttons( very good point) o7

    I'm not buying the "these panels will work in VR" premise.
    My experience in VR was that I'd find either of these panels (the replicas, or the Virpil control panel) unacceptably hard to use. As soon as you take your hand off the throttle grip, or the joystick grip, there's a significant doubt about where your hands are in relation to the buttons.
    I have a Virpil throttle, and whenever I use a button that's on the base of the device instead of somewhere on the throttle grip, I'm groping around for a while until I'm sure I'm touching the right button. This works for stuff that's not time critical, like the Galaxy Map button, but not for anything I have to find quickly.
    With either of these, I'm not just fumbling blind for the buttons, I'm fumbling for the entire panel first, and where it is in relation to the main controls.

    I would like to see them in action. Yes they look nice but how does it work? Maybe show them off a wee bit.

    Awesome, so when, maybe, hopefully, and with luck, Odyssey will be a finished product we pay for, at the end of the year 21, we have a new gadget!

    Love your videos and insightful content, my friend. I am a life-long astronomy nut, space-travel fan, and gamer nerd. Hehe... I am just getting started in ED/ ED:O as a newb. I'm hooked on this fabulous game. So, I am trying for the immersive cockpit chair, of course. I found this device and contacted the manufacturer of this device, just as you did; hoping to purchase one. I think I have a great solution for the mounting issue for the device to fit with a HOTAS rig and keyboard on my chair. Would love to win yours, so I can build it. I subscribed 5o your channel and I am boosting *all* +your vids to help your channel grow. *crossing my fingers, hoping I am the lucky one who wins your device* Keep up the great work!

    The VR experience would be killer. I'm not surprised they're not amazing though, it seems like it would be a pretty small production run.

    The fact that you can’t change the lights is a huge issue for me. As much as I want the virpil control panel that would go well with my X52 Pro.
    Then again I really like the virpil but it’s so expensive!

    these are pretty cool, i like them a lot and they would also work for my sim racing so i could do away with some of my home made button boxes lol. great to see new hardware coming out for elite to add immersion

    Flying with X52 HOTAS so I have a lot of switches already, but the panels do intrigue me for immersion. Can you do a compatibility test with your joystick/controller game setup?
