- A pair of Weber State University cheerleaders are getting international attention after a video of one of their routines went viral. Mekenzie Grabau, 21, and Kollin Cockrell, 26, appear to defy the laws of physics in an impressive display of athleticism. FOX 13's Hailey Higgins spoke to the pair.

Same. Probably wanted people to watch the video and it worked on us. Smart move, but a little disappointing. We've seen stuff like this before years and years ago and it is extremely hard to hit. However, we don't know the level now and what everyone else is doing. We also didn't see the whole routine or what their competitors did. What we say was great, but is it gravity defying? Congrats anyways for winning and glad it worked out for the guy that missed Olympics after training for 10 years. We like Olympics and feel for him. Nice win.

These girls are serious athletes, and tremendously brave. Those stunts take a lot of courage and mental toughness.
Thank you it's really grueling and tough so we really appreciate it when people acknowledge cheerleaders as real athletes.

You can tell how strong she is by looking at her body. She’s petite but solid and súper toned. Look at those abs! She’s a bad ass.
People really have no idea how hard cheerleading and dance can be! I had no clue till I was in it! Did it a few years...was really good at it but couldn’t stand most of the girls on every squad I was in. But I left cheerleading for my first love which was always soccer.

I dont do cheerleading but I lift heavy. All I can say is that the guy doing what hes doing is extremely hard and not easy. It not only takes strength but it takes an insane amount of balance as well. Its really hard holding up 100+lbs with 1 arm over and over again, even harder when its a human being that moves.

It’s because they didn’t do it themselves , unaware of how difficult and how much dedication it takes.
Not calling cheer a sport is like not calling gymnastics a sport. Just because any 2 year old can do a basic roll doesn’t mean gymnastics isn’t athletic and just because some cheer squads just chant and clap doesn’t mean it’s not athletic as well 😊

i’m an all-star cheerleader and i have been since i was 9 years old. i can honestly say that cheerleading is such a difficult and exhausting sport. it takes a lot to make a good cheerleader but they definitely are

I’ve done years soccer, gymnastics and cheer, and serious competitive cheer is still the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Not just in the realm of sports, it is THE hardest thing i have ever done

As former high school cheeleader (male), I approve this message. Our squad was 5th in the country at the Orlando competition. When I left cheerleading, my friends and I formed the surfing club, 1981.

To people who continue to say cheer isn't a sport or aren't athletes, I dare you to go try these stunts. It takes years of training just like all other sports and it takes a good amount of dedication and athleticism to do cheer. I have done it for 22 years and still fight with people on it being a sport!

Never giving up. No matter how many times they failed, they got back up then got it right.
Thank you so much for finally recognizing cheering as a sport, and referring to them as athletes. I cheered for 12 years, and it's serious work. We practiced almost every day, and busted our asses. We sustained injuries, but kept on going. We brought our A game and left it all on the field/floor. You want to see fierceness? Go backstage at a cheer competition. Yet people would say it's wasn't a sport, and I'd be so upset and hurt. Nice to see times are changing!!
I really think Netflix doing the docuseries on Navarro really opened a lot of peoples minds to this sport and how athletic it is. It really opened mine! I had no idea it was at this level. Amazing!

I was apart of my high school Varsity cheer squad. Like him I never thought I would’ve join cheer but I with my martial arts and acrobatic background I ended up being a great fit! Cheer is no joke, the practices are long and grueling,the amount of stress on the body is immense! But dam when the routine is on point it’s an awesome feeling.
Get some financial backing. Open a local private cheerleading training center and watch the kids come. You will have a very lucrative business.

One of my alma maters!... Makes me happy to see their success. Having raised an athletic family, including one son who was a cheerleader in high school, I was amazed by the agility required, and the sheer brute strength. They are not merely performers, as some claim, but are unequivocally athletes!

Kollin's power lifting training paid off big time. I was a cheerleader as well and I know how hard these stunts can be. My stunt partner was 5' 95lbs. haha

probably didn’t get to compete “next season” since covid destroyed 2020. Hopefully that wasn’t his last season. His weight lifting definitely helped him to be able to partner stunt.

I just now am seeing this. I moved from Utah years ago, but when I lived there, I was off Mountain Road down the way from Weber! I have a soft spot for this college. My mom went there when it was just an agriculture college, and now it is a little bright star in the college world.

It's always good to see a guy do this with such great huge arms for a guy to lift those girls with one hand it's incredibly strenuous.
I used to be a cheerleader for FSU and all my bitchy partner wanted to do is the walk up high arm constantly. It wore me completely out at the end of game nights. One time she pissed me off so badly for all she did was complain. All of us were so tired of hearing her constantly bitch all thru the game.
We were in Nebraska and of the seven girls and seven guys on the varsity squad , I being one of them, I was stu k on the end of the line and the fricking NBC and the ABC networks camera were right in my face. My partner decided that she wanted to kick me with her tennis shoes as she was doing a simple seat lift. She kept kicking my shoulders and damn if it really hurt .
Captain says one two down up and cradle , if you cheer you know what that means, well I cradled and threw her big boob chest into the chain link fence right in front of me. She flew into it and turned around and looked at me with her bitchy rude ass face and yelled at her and said,. " Don't you ever EVER kick my shoulders again you mother fucking bitch "

I'm so sorry as a former cheerleader sidelined due to a neck injury I know how dangerous the sport can be. I hope she has a speedy recovery 🙏
@@kellyb6198 thank you, that was 15 years ago with numerous spinal surgeries, she recovered mostly then went to fashion school in london where she was mugged, her purse caught in the crook of her arm and was whipped around into a fence. Needless to say she reinjured her back and never fully recovered. she still spends most of the day in bed, but in good spirits.

I know several male cheerleaders and the stories are almost the same. Training for football, strongman, or powerlifting and got injured. All of them love it so it was kind of a blessing.
