  • Here is AutoAcademics' video review of the 2016 Mazda6 Grand Touring. Mazda exchanged the V6 for 40 mpg and a premium interior. Is that enough to cure the common drive? @MazdaUSA www.mazdausa.com

    i have this car now, and you forgot to mention the sport mode button that comes with the car. Activate this, and the car will react like a V6 once you put your foot down! This car is awesome! And since this same engine is in the high end mazda 3, that car should drive even quicker since its smaller and lighter. Go for a test drive guys, you won't bw disappointed! I promise :)

      +Joseph Espinal Congratulations on your car, Joseph Espinal. The 2016 Mazda6 is a really nice car. Sometimes a feature, such as sport mode slips past us in our video reviews, and that's why we appreciate owners like yourself who can add input and personal experiences here in the comments section. While we do agree that "sport modes" add a little extra urgency to the throttle response and transmission shifts, we do still miss the V6 that was in the previous gen Mazda6. It guzzled gas like a co-ed binge drinking on spring break, but the power was impressive. Oh, yeah, and Chris likes the Mazda3, too. Thank you again for sharing and thanks for watching!

    To sum up what many are saying, you can find all kinds of opinions that include real and made up stuff on the internet. There are those that create multiple accounts to cheer for or bring down particular suppliers. With that said I will provide my personal experience and hope you believe me when I say this is real and I hope it helps someone.
    In 2009 I purchased my wife a 2008 Mazda 3. I am not aware if it was a Ford collaboration and don't care to know. For us it has been a champ with only a 2.0 engine. It is quick off the line, fun to drive with sporting handling and with a few seat adjustments works well for me at 6' 3" & 240# medium to lean build. The only problem we've had is the rear tires wore to the inside when replaced. Research shows that Mazda get some of the fun sport steering by cambering the rear wheels to ride a fraction more to the inside of the tire. The solution (if you want to keep the quick steering) is to replace tires with the similar design. That being with continuous tread lines (no all weather types) and the problem goes away.
    I like the Mazda 3 enough that I took it over (32 mpg with 75 k miles) and bought my wife the 2016 Mazda 6 Touring. I won't do a complete review but can testify to the fact that the metering system has us at 38.7 mpg traveling 20 minutes on the highway only once we are 5 minutes to the interstate from our home. For our mix of small town and interstate driving we are sustaining 32 mpg which I think is pretty darn good for a midsize fun to drive car. The car with dealer added options (sunroof, Bose sound....etc) came to $28 K and we made an offer of a flat $25 k with them also adding remote start.
    When shopping we looked at the Subaru Legacy (per the internet the engine is way noisy), Honda Accord (could not adjust to my size even with the seat adjusted to the floor) and Nissian Altima (only 2015 available). I made an offer on the Nissian based on it being a previous years model but it was rejected. I'm glad they did. After testing driving the Mazda 6 and reading the "Professional" reviews I will say, test drive yourself before you let internet banter sway you and be impressed as we are.
    Good luck and happy shopping.

    Nice review! I've watched a bunch of reviews of this car and I'm really beginning to love it. Also I noticed that almost every review of this car I've watched mentioned that it would be better if there is a V6 version. I'm from China. In my country they would charge you more taxes for more powerful engines. Plus the fuel in my country is also more expensive. So yeah we love V6 and V8 but we have to pay a hell lot more for them. I envy you guys!

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Shawn Zhang Well, first, thank you for the kind words, Shawn Zhang. We appreciate them and we're happy you enjoyed the review. Most journalists in the States are very familiar with the V6 that the previous gen #Mazda6 had as an option and it was a rather powerful engine for cars in its class. The problem was it wasn't as fuel efficient as other V6's out there and this might be one reason it isn't offered anymore. Either way, the current 4-cylinder is a nice engine. We just tend to reminisce a bit of the "good ole days" here in the U.S. LOL th-cam.com/video/TbDlCaF7fCY/w-d-xo.html

    Mazda did a great job with this car. I love the LED lighting surrounding the front grille and the interior looks like something on a car that costs over $10k more. I'm starting to regret getting an Acura TLX over this car. The only problem is there aren't any nearby Mazda dealerships to buy this awesome car! LOL

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lack of Mazda dealerships in your area is an important factor to consider, gedaman, because no matter how attractive this Mazda6 is, if you can't easily get it serviced, it can be a toll on your ownership experience. We appreciate your comments and thanks for watching, too!

      Mazda vehicles aren't an enigma. I have a Mazda dealership 1 mile from my house. I refuse to go to them. I have a good local mechanic that is able to address just about any need that I have with my Mazda6. Been going to him for the past 9 years... 100,000+ miles now....
      In general, Mazda vehicles are very reliable. Have had 3 Mazda vehicles in the past decade (3, 6, and Protege) and I'm amazed...

    Good overview of the vehicle. I love my Mazda 6 Grand Touring 2016 for my daily commute to work and back. At 52, my only complaint is not being able to level the drivers seat bottom more. The maximum leveling out is 14 degrees of tilt down where my sits bones (ischial tuberosities) are positioned in the seat. This hurts my low back because it forces my pelvic into extension and stresses the lower lumbar area. This requires me to add a seat cushion to level out the seat bottom more. Other then that, the vehicle- with all its features for the price, is fantastic.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +J. Max Waddell Unfortunately, we realize things like that happen, J. Max Waddell. We've tested and owned a few cars that just didn't feel right for some, but felt totally fine for others. And as far as we are aware, none of us at AutoAcademics have issues with ischial tuberosities, diagnosed or otherwise. Thankfully, you were able to find a solution with the cushion because it is not always that simple, no matter how frustrating it may be. At any rate, we appreciate you sharing and we thank you very much for the kind words. Thanks for watching, too!

    Mazda could really dent Camry and Accord sales if they offered their 6 with more options. The perfect 6 would have either a V6 3.5L or 4 cyl 2.0L turbo along with AWD, and a 6 speed manual transmission. With Mazda's recent partnership with Toyota, putting Toyota's bulletproof V6 in the 6 would be easy. Come on Mazda! Give us more options!

    I'm about to buy a slightly used 2016 Mazda 6 GT, and have checked out about 6 review videos. Every single video has some of the same comments/commenters that truly do seem to be either people paid to post crap reviews on Mazda videos, or simply work for a different manufacturer. Explain when I should expect my 2008 Mazda6 with 104,000 miles on it to start breaking out in rust. It's in mint shape, bub. And I drive the heck out of it every day, as you would expect any good Mazda driver to do.
      When are owners going to start taking care of their vehicles? When was the last time you washed your car? Ever tried waxing it? How about rock chips? You address them right away too, right? I have a 9 year old Mazda6 that still looks like new. What is everyone else's excuse? By the way, I live in the Midwest so spare me the California climate excuse. I have a 2016 mazda 6 and after 500 miles tire noise is very pronounced. Dunlop sport 5000 which tire rack reviews says are noisy .Is the grand touring quieter than a I touring. There are exterior differences---grill--I wish someone could tell me if there is extra sound deadening in the Grand touring model.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sailor john Unfortunately, we do not know (as of right now) if the Grand Touring has more sound deadening in it than the other models, Sailor john. Nor do we remember what tires our car had on it. We can tell you that our tester had just over 2000 miles on it when we had it and we did not experience any major intrusive noises in the cabin. We appreciate your comments and if we find out any more info, we'll post back on here for you. Thanks for watching!

      It doesn't matter what trim you have, they are all noisy. I have a 2014 and it's very noisy on the highway. Mazda didn't use enough sound insulation in order to make the car lighter and more fuel efficient. It's all part of their "Skyactiv" technology. After a while, I got used to the sound but I do wish it was more quiet.

      Hmm. That's a tough one for us because we haven't been in a recent Accord in quite a while (hollar at us Honda!). We do think that the engine size would be one of the things to consider between those two cars, but from our experience with the Mazda6, it was truly an enjoyable car to drive. We suggest you test drive them both and see which one feels better to you. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    The dealer made an offer of $28,727.00 for Mazda 6 GT, is that a good price or should I look into buying another vehicle?

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is hard for us to say, Cee Nelly, as it depends upon what packages the vehicle has on it, as well as where you live and what the inventory looks like in your area, though this factor may not be as much of an issue. Dealer prices are contingent upon all of this information. We're going to assume that this car does not have the Technology Package, so with that being said, $28k and change still sounds pretty decent. If it does have the Tech Package, well we know what we would do. Let us know how you make out. Good luck and thanks for watching!

      Hi whitesandboy. It seems as though blue reflex and blue reflex mica should be the same color. The monroney (window sticker) that came with our tester just says blue reflex and when we looked on mazdausa.com, it too is called blue reflex there. Are you in the U.S or a different country? Sometimes there are some slight differences in different markets. Hope this helps and thank you for watching!

      soupnazi81 Hi soupnazi81. We all have personal preferences with regards to styles/genres of music. As we attempt to offer variety, we will unwillingly make choices that do not appeal to everyone. Believe it or not, we would not purchase many of the musical choices that we use for our own personal listening pleasures, but we do feel that each chosen piece works with the tone and message of each video. We hope this adds a little insight to our musical choices and we thank you for sharing. Thanks for watching, too!

    The main problems with the 2016 Mazda 6:
    - Poorer than stated fuel economy. Everyman Driver quotes 26MPG and TFL Car quotes 25MPG for this car.
    - Underpowered engine with no turbo option.
    - No AWD powertrain option.
    - Cheap plastics in the interior.
    - Sometimes annoying gimmicky tech features like the HUD and lane assist.

    2016 Mazda 6 or Malibu?

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JaeYup Kim The last Malibu we drove was the previous generation and we have not had the opportunity to test the current-gen version so unfortunately it is hard for us to say right now. We will have an opportunity to drive the 2016 Malibu during the Greater Atlanta Automotive Media Association Family Car Challenge later this week, so hopefully we'll get a decent first impression while we await a full-blown test opportunity. With all that said, we do like the Mazda6, though. Thanks for watching!

    Go check the 2015 JD Power Vehicle Quality study. Fiat, Mazda and Subaru all ranked at the bottom, meaning that these 3 automakers make the most unreliable cars in the industry.
    Mazda's recent cars are plagued with transmission problems and poorer than stated fuel economy. For example, this 2016 Mazda 6 only gets 26MPG according to Everyman Driver and TFL Car, that's below average for this segment.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      When this car came out 3 years ago as a 2016 model, The Driftless Verse, it was truly one of the best mainstream family sedans on the market, in our opinion. So we're not sure why you're looking for a list of things wrong with it. We did mention that the 4-cylinder was noisy during hard acceleration and that it didn't have the power of the former V6, but besides that, it was a very good car for the time. You must have missed that part. Obviously, if you're looking at it from a perspective based upon today's market, there may be more concerns to point out, but 3 years ago, we loved it. Thanks for watching anyway.
