    I like it a lot. One of my uncle's who came back from Europe after the war, owned a 1959 Beetle, and had it until the late 1970's, and boy, that little car was a lot of fun- 25 HP, 3-speed manual transmission, no radio, no AC, no power steering, no nothing, but very reliable-never broke- and economical, and never rusted. It is a shame it was destroyed in a car accident.......

      Our manufacturers only focus on upper class cars. That's why we'll lose the game in the whole car market in the next years. Like there's just no innovation anymore in terms of engines or design

    Its lovely. There is not a single car on the road today that I would rather have. Can't beat the retro stuff and there is going to be a lot more of it coming from the Chinese. Take for example the Opel Manta A(from 1970). Recently Opel teased a once-off electric conversion(the beautiful Electromod which people loved as it stayed true to the original design). Then they announced the new Manta would be an SUV - something completely different. I did warn them that if they messed this up the Chinese will step in and do it for them. Take one look at the Manta A and you will understand why. Corporate ass being whipped in central square.. I can't wait

    It looks great. We tend to think of this style as a Beetle style, but actually there were lots of cars that had similar-ish styling, if you go back far enough. It is just that the Beetle was the only car that continued this style for so long, so it is the only car that most of us know of with this kind of styling.

    • @jvs333

Yet Toyota killed GM replacing it as the world’s biggest auto maker. Then japan became the world’s leader in electronics, robotics etc. well China is the new japan it is now the world leader in EVs, electronics, robotics, AI, and just about everything else it takes on. The Industrial Age gave rise to the US (with help with WW2). Today the global tech-age has given rise to China.

    If it should be available for purchase in Mexico or Canada, I would be sorely tempted to vacation there and drive one back into the US. The dull uniformity of present day autos just doesn't compare to the 1950's or 1960's; this does.

    They simply beat VW to it. VW had a good run when they re-released the Beetle. In the EV space with the release of their ID3 they had an opportunity to release an EV Beetle and it would sell likencrazy here and in Europe.
    This car is a cross between the classic Beetle and the old London taxicabs. And it looks great.

    • @jvs333
      @jvs333 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the chrome model was their top of the line model and I’m sure it was aimed at female buyers as the interior looked very femininely styled (bling) to appeal to “girlish” fun and fancy. Not being sexist just commenting on culture

    GWM/Haval in South Africa have dropped hints that they are thinking of bringing in the ORA range. Considering that Haval just bumped Nissan out of fifth-largest car brand down here, that could be a real boost for the local EV scene. They have to do something about the branding, though. Maybe "good cat" works in Chinese, but in English ...

    • @jvs333
      @jvs333 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @michael Johnson: I think your wrong about the branding. I think it fits the western culture of branding (the beetle? Hello kiddy? Monster truck? Muscle car? And so on) good cat, punk cat, black cat has an appeal to the Facebook generation and from their designs it looks like that’s their targeted buyers, not the businessman. They’ll be a hit in any country if the quality of reliability is there

Years ago I had a sign and display business I would often consult my clients (especially at trade shows) that it was import to connect with potential customers with personal trend point of sales. As well as what font was used, what color schemes , and over all presentation, I think the different cat names are cool and trendy identities like the “beetle” was

    I'm really happy the Punk Cat followed the look of the classic Beetle more closely than the new beetles from VW did. I love the classic beetle and this is what I think is the best modernization of that beetle so far. Volkswagen should've done something like this themselves, and it makes me wonder why other car companies don't do something similar. When Ford came out with the electric mustang, they butchered the design. it doesn't even look like a mustang anymore. I don't understand why they wouldn't put the body of the classic mustang on the newer models with all the amenities of modern times. plus it being electric would be great too. It's like putting the design of your favorite classic car and slapping it on the body of a Tesla. You get a great functioning car and love the look of it too.

    Thank you for this tidbit. Always nice to see funny innovation. In the 1970s, I had beetles, Karman Ghias... they were very nice (gas guzzling oil burning) nifty cars. Electrified, and at a low price (less than 15kUSD) they might possibly gobble up a niche in the market... if they don't rattle, fall apart, lose their fenders, and can go 200kms without a recharge. Otherwise, they will be in the "city electric" cars which is in limited demand.
