Ora Punk Cat & Lightning Cat EV Reveals | Shanghai Auto Show

- Ora is one of the brands of Great Wall. Ora Punk Cat is a copycat of the Volkswagen Beetle. Of the four vehicles Ora currently sells, three are named after cats: Good Cat, White Cat, and Black Cat. Auto Shanghai 2021 brought another one apart from the Punk Cat: the Lightning Cat, a smaller Porsche-like design that's a tad more for the serious crowd. The Punk Cat is a vehicle that the company hopes to appeal to women with Disney princess-like designing. The Lightning Cat features bright orange upholstery and a widescreen infotainment system, plus a second touchscreen on the center spine. The car manufacturer says the eventual production model will be able to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds.

PunkCat is a brilliant update to the classic Beatle and soooo Californian they can sell really well in the USA. !!!! So American!! It’s the best design I have seen so far from this show..Laurie NZ !!
The problem with the beetle design is that the wind resistance value is terrible. So it's really limited to city driving. The Ligthningcat looks good, similar the 2009 Porsche Panamera. Love the full glass roof.

God if they could make the Punk Cat fit US safety laws without changing the design, I would be on that in an instant. Ironic that a Chinese copy is more faithful to the the original VW bug than the actual new VW ones themselves.

The Ora Cat didn't exactly copy the Porsche or the Volkswagen Beetle. The car was designed by ex Porsche designer, so it was inevitable that it would have traces of Porsche and Beetle design.

It's a work that pays homage to the classics and adds the latest modern technology, but it's full of classics. The design is so beautiful. I think the technology and quality of Chinese automobile are basically the same as many international brands. Ten years ago, I was still using Skoda and Lexus. Now I choose Chinese brands. economical and practical.
Lexus & Toyota are like the best their ever was at this point
I'd buy that PUNK CAT. And I m in the US. I think more companies might want to think about throwback designs for EV's. In all of the futuristic movies, the cars appear to be from the '50s and '60s anyway.

Great wall has gone ahead in leaps and bounds in terms of its design and appeal in the last 5 years. I would say they have been getting the European designers in on this as they have a better design for western tastes in cars. China has a funny sense of taste in car design, almost goofy, but if they going to try and export they had to lift their game. Lots of the Chinese cars are sleek and beautiful. The technical reliability must keep up though otherwise it will end in tears.
I don't know of any country whose appearance patents can last more than 80 years.

Hi there I have had lots of cars over the years and that new car looks good it reminded me of I had a beetle and I have resently had a chrysler pt cruiser witch is a love hate car I am a lorrie driver and I use to get coments on my cars over the years but I do love retro style it reminded me of the cars my dad & brother had when going up my saying is to be different and that new car eV looking grate I would have one and I lik the new tek

I believe retro cars is rare in China yet theres been a craving for such cars, and i think that's the reason why so many less serious EV car companies are doing these type of retro pastiche cars

If these cars sold in the United States and had a good service network, I would buy one in a heartbeat. But from what I read, sales in the U.S. are not likely. If China sold these with a decent price, they could see the same success as the phenomenal VW Beetle.

The Chinese did a better version of the beetle than the original designer VW. This is bad for VW. 😂. It looks better than the last 2 versions of the new beetle. How did this happen?😲 I think the interior colors look stupid. I like the lightening cat. If they brought that to the US I would buy it.
