3:21 NEO's version of this card was also great because the opponent was often incentivised to block thanks to ninjutsu so it created a cool decision for the opponent to have to make. Both covered a lot of bases. SNC's one was one of like, two ways to cleanly block the problem 2-drops.
Speaking of nicknames, I'm kinda sad this set was skipped over for a TTC Nicknames episode. I had some good ones, if I may toot my own horn, like "Jugger-not" for Iron Golem, "My Little Pridemate" for Celestial Unicorn, and "Power Word: Osteoporosis" for Ray of Enfeeblement.
Ranger class is so good played on curve in my standard werewolf decks! I might actually pick several more up while it's so cheap, incredible for any deck that cares about tokens
Well I have some great news for you Past Graham, you do get to leave the city for a Magic event and by all accounts you had a good time. We all enjoyed the Vlog.
Sees Ranger Class pulled and immediately thinks well that's money card. Only to realize that it's dirt cheap because it's no longer in Standard and Mono Green Aggro is no longer in the meta. Guess we know what card Wheeler is gonna be building around in the next $20 challenge. Ps. I'm joking about Wheeler building around it, due to him mentioning a couple of times his affinity for formerly expensive cards that are now cheap.
@@voltcorp Probably, but being able to give whatever creature you just cast haste for 1 mana (move the equipment to whatever you just cast) can turn a low curve in to a very aggressive draft deck.
@@voltcorp it was pretty much mono-commons/uncommons, no bomb rares to speak of outside ranger class. Targ-nar was an all star and I had a battle-cry goblin and gnoll hunter as well, so a really stacked 2-drop slot to leverage the boots with on turn 3. That said, it definitely benefited a lot from being in sealed not draft, and from the format being so new. The boots got a lot worse when everyone figured out rakdos treasures in draft
The reason new capenna's 4/4 flier trick was better also leans on the brokers and the fact that base power-4-ing a double striker with a shield counter or an unblockable conniver or whatever and still getting the counter boosts was VERY good in the right moments. That and the draw a card.
Really enjoyed listening to Graham talk about Mordenkainens Polymorph from Magic: The Gathering - Dungeons and Dragons - Adventures in the Forgotten Realms
Yay Graham crackers! (No, I will not get tired of this joke.) Engagement for the engagement gods! Also, enjoy your roped-in afterparty. You do you, Graham. YKIOK.
My headcanon is that the Hill Giant Herdgorger's dog is named "George", so he's in fact why you called the card "Gorgeous George", as it would be "Herdgorger's George".
Bruh "arrow littering" as if D&D players don't immediately after every fight chant "I retrieve my arrows". If someone left an arrow behind, either they're dead or they're directly talkin' to ye.
When the set first came out I bought SO MUCH of it and I'm emotionally split cause I regret spending that much money but at the same time I LOVE the cards and flavor and now have like 8 commander decks just themed around DnD stuff. Crappy set investment wise, but fun cards 😅
@Mordalon Exactly. I'm only now realizing how flippant I was being. On a card from a 'canon' set, it'd feel lazy; like the card couldn't express its flavor without it, and since WotC is writing the story (and are writing it during production) , they control what the flavor is trying to do. But on a card from another IP, they don't have control of the story and have adapt one that's already done. Thus, flavor words to nudge the cards to fit the flavor better make total sense.
I also have seen many times people miss flavor that seems fairly obvious, like not getting that Robber of the Rich is supposed to be Robin Hood and thinking it having Reach is “random”.
Hearing G say "It's fine now" will always be such a nice thing.
Crazy to think that Ranger class shot up to like $10-15 around Midnight Hunt and has since fallen way back down
Got reprinted as a 4 of in a challenger deck or something so there's just loads of em about - and they were only great in standard
"I am Canadian! (?)"
"I am dog!"
"I am in distress!"
I am laughing hard
Whoa, you opened my pack! Definitely did a double-take hearing my name. Cheers!
that escape from the city bit killed me
I loved that
me too!
Graham: "'Tie Up' - much less exciting [than 'Turn Up']..."
Matt, in editing: "Says you."
Well, suit yourselves, I guess.
I was half-expecting "Chowse Channeler, I'm sorry, Kaos Channeler" to be followed by "I'm sorry, Kaos Kanneler"
3:21 NEO's version of this card was also great because the opponent was often incentivised to block thanks to ninjutsu so it created a cool decision for the opponent to have to make.

Can always count on Matt for those good captions 😅
I can't believe the quiet escape from the city bit; it killed me.
Ahhh.. .the best voice in all of the MTGverse. Thank you for existing, Graham. I can relax again.
Speaking of nicknames, I'm kinda sad this set was skipped over for a TTC Nicknames episode. I had some good ones, if I may toot my own horn, like "Jugger-not" for Iron Golem, "My Little Pridemate" for Celestial Unicorn, and "Power Word: Osteoporosis" for Ray of Enfeeblement.
my little pridemate and power word: osteoporosis are amazing
"Woo, spring break!"
Quality off-screen shouts right there
Ranger class is so good played on curve in my standard werewolf decks! I might actually pick several more up while it's so cheap, incredible for any deck that cares about tokens
That quiet bit of Escape From the City leaking in was exquisite.
hahaha great little editing bits from Matt in this one
I found the Windseer to be pretty good for a common. I mean even if you only ever roll a 1 it's still a 3/3 flier for 4 that lets you scry 1.
I thought I was getting a call when escape from the city started playing lol
Well I have some great news for you Past Graham, you do get to leave the city for a Magic event and by all accounts you had a good time. We all enjoyed the Vlog.
My first set after I got into magic! Love it
This set got me into Magic!
Love James’ random cameo at the end 👏🏻

Boots of speed was amazing, huge part of my prerelease deck curving out hard. Went 4-0 at that prerelease
I'm not saying you're lying, but I will guess that the rest of the curve had very good cards
@@voltcorp Probably, but being able to give whatever creature you just cast haste for 1 mana (move the equipment to whatever you just cast) can turn a low curve in to a very aggressive draft deck.

Steal its eyes Graham
I thought it would be way more than a dollar. Ranger Class has really gone down in price from what I remember
Graham: "Nobody ever cast Boots of Speed."
My Valduk PDH build: "Am I a joke to you?"
10:03 I hear that sonic music reference!
“Of course the +2 mace gives +2/+2, what else would it do?”
*+2 mace making a 2/2 survive a lightning bolt*

Ranger Class is super playable in Gladiator.
Really enjoyed listening to Graham talk about Mordenkainens Polymorph from Magic: The Gathering - Dungeons and Dragons - Adventures in the Forgotten Realms
Spring Break!
...and Graham did leave the city!
Spring Break, in the sense that you go to the nearest spring to get water.
With a party of 4, you could traverse nearly 200 feet up or down, it's so handy!
My fav lrr content (Fridays night non withstanding), always want more
Boots of Speed aren't high on the Lightning Greaves at home ranking, but I've cast it in Brawl a few times
Graham is correct on 1st pick, unless you are ALREADY heavy in Dungeons *OR* Lifegain. In those cases, *Idol* or *Unicorn* is your pulls.
ah, memories of Commandfest Bellevue... that was a good time.
No mention of Price of Loyalty being top common in AFR limited?!
"Spring Break" as in "take a break for some spring water"
you forgot that AFR stands for always force rakdos.
I have that player's handbook on the shelf behind me
Graham sleeping on Price of Loyalty. BR steal-and-sac was the best thing you could do in AFR draft.
6:01 Wait… that _actually_ happened?! 🤣
Yay Graham crackers! (No, I will not get tired of this joke.)
Engagement for the engagement gods!
Also, enjoy your roped-in afterparty. You do you, Graham. YKIOK.
The +2 Mace giving +2/+2 implies that a regular mace gives +0/+0.
Engagement!
i desperately want +2 mace to give +2/+2 and equip for 2.
two.
Fun fact, you can't find +2 Mace on Gatherer
Oh wow, you really can't, what the _hell?_
At least you can grab it on Scryfall tho
*yikes*
"Sure, it's neat!"
Woo. Spring water break!
7:30 I see what you did there editor
My headcanon is that the Hill Giant Herdgorger's dog is named "George", so he's in fact why you called the card "Gorgeous George", as it would be "Herdgorger's George".
I’m so glad you were able to escape the city
"Says you"
OMG
50 feet of rope is only slightly above 15 meters... its not THAT much rope, lol...
(Extremely Lil Jon Voice)
TURN UP FOR ROPE
Wow. This has been recorded nearly an year ago. Almost like wotc and their sets.
Bruh "arrow littering" as if D&D players don't immediately after every fight chant "I retrieve my arrows". If someone left an arrow behind, either they're dead or they're directly talkin' to ye.
DId the man in the Video ever leave the city? Has the containment failed us?
Engagement for the engagement god!
A new crack- a- pack? Hoozah!
Why did I get Deja Vu at the end of this video. It's a video.
When the set first came out I bought SO MUCH of it and I'm emotionally split cause I regret spending that much money but at the same time I LOVE the cards and flavor and now have like 8 commander decks just themed around DnD stuff. Crappy set investment wise, but fun cards 😅
Tie Up is much less exciting? Speak for yourself... 😘
I'm really glad they let G leave the city finally.
Crack! A! Pack!
Hate that +2 Mace costs 3 to equip, everything else is a 2
got extremely tired of seeing ranger class in standard lol
Umami
Before watch bet pack is worth 1.54
Guessing 2.66
I feel a deadly dispute in here
@@ILikePi31415926535 so we both suck lol
2.80.
Edit: Welp.
@@michaelblack5467 Dang 😂
If it’s fine now, what was it before?
People that played this limited format will know that AFR stands for:
Always Fuc#¡ng Red
The one thing I like about flavor words is that they only show up in non-canon sets.
That's kind of the point of them, to spell out flavor for a setting that isn't designed primarily as a Magic setting.
@Mordalon Exactly. I'm only now realizing how flippant I was being. On a card from a 'canon' set, it'd feel lazy; like the card couldn't express its flavor without it, and since WotC is writing the story (and are writing it during production) , they control what the flavor is trying to do.

It was so cool when you opened the Pinkerton card and all those goons showed up a couple episodes back. look up MTG Pinkertons for more info
Really stretching it just for the joke.
