My 1989 chevy truck has had Amsoil since day one..engine, transmission and rear end..my truck has 955,000 miles and still going strong..doesn't burn a drop of oil..it's been on the local TV channel up here in Maine...no rebuilds on any drivetrain parts....love my Amsoil
I've used amsoil in my 15 journey since 4000 miles it's got 118000 miles on it and did oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket on it and it still looks new inside. Amsoil is all I use in my cars
When changing to a better quality oil like Amsoil, especially with a dirty or neglected engine, please allow time for the higher detergency oil to clean out hard deposits, AND change the filter more often during the first year. You can even start with one quart of Amsoil Signature with the rest store bought oil for the first two oil change intervals. Change oil sooner for those first two oil changes, like 2-3K miles. And use a fuel additive which cleans the piston rings during that time. You will be glad you did this!.
@@daniellang6112 Using Amsoil since 1983 mostly the ATF, gear oil 75-90, oil filters and the Diesel oil 5-40 and used to use the 15-40. The oil is a cleaning oil for sure and it is very high heat transfer to the cooling system. The other thing is that is sticks to engine bearing surfaces and takes the loads too. It is best oil for any engine. Please use oil analysis at every oil change, it is worth the money plus you can see how your engine is doing.
It's AMSOIL, not Amsoil. AMSOIL is an abbreviation for the founder of AMSOIL Inc., Al Amatuzio. AMSOIL stands for Al-Amatuzio-Oil. IBM is not, "Ibm", or UPS is not, "Ups", etc.
I ran the stuff the dealer sold me, changed the oil every 5k miles. Switched to amsoil 50,000 miles ago (change every 7500-10000 miles depending on my driving) and my truck seems so much smoother.
First time is used signature 0W-20 after 4000 miles the oil is very black. Before that I had the Chevy dealer changing the oil in my 5.3 Silverado. I wanted to make sure they were using Mobil1. They never said the brand other than it’s Dexos. I just decided to do the oil myself from now on. I’m using the signature 0W-20. I also put Amsoil in my Transmission, Transfer case, front and rear differentials. The Transmission was noticeably the first time I shifted it in reverse to forward. It hasn’t shifted this smooth from a stop sign going forward. Just incredible. Smooth as silk. It’s hard to explain but I can feel the difference with it. It’s real. I drove from St. Paul Minnesota area to Glasgow Montana on my first day over 700 miles. I went to Glacier park and it was closed from the snow unfortunately. My truck drove so smooth. This last weekend I went up to Fargo North Dakota made it up. Gas lasted from home to Fargo and then back to St.Cloud MN before filling my gas tank. I got around 22.5 MPG in my 2014 LT 5.3 4x4 Silverado.
I've been using Amsoil ATF for two or three decades, and I agree, the shifting is smoother, more positive and the fluid looks much better when I check it.
Note: The engine will have built up varnish, fine dirt and carbon, which the Amsoil will loosen during the first 3 to 5K miles, depending on how much has built up. The transmission and gearboxes will not have the carbon , varnish and fine dirt. They will only have oxidized oil (sticky) and fine metal paste from gear wear.
@@NorthlanderMN That is really good gas mileage for a truck on mountain roads. If you plan to keep the truck for another 8 or 10+ years, consider a bypass filter, installed around 40 to 50K miles. I would still change the oil when it gets dark.
I have a 2005 5.9. I run amsoil and amsoil oil bypass. Also have lift pump w/2micron fuel filter and run hot shot fuel additive. I have added lots of very IMO sensible engine up grades. It runs and tows very well. It has 230k on it and would love to go through the entire engine and G56 someday and put in something else. But it will probably out live me. Don't know if that's good or bad.
We used to have an Amsoil dealer come by our local auto shop. I raced my Camaro at the time and was always opening up the engine for performance enhancements. I had just finished my break in on a SBC 400 and gave Amsoil a try. Over the next several years of drag racing and daily driving, I was shocked at every tear down. The engine looked like it just left the machine shop! No varnish on anything, anywhere.
2016 Silverado 5.3 used to use a quart and a half every recommended 7500 oil change. I used Mobil 1 every 7500..I switched to amsoil signature series and now it doesn't even burn a quart every 15000 miles and I also pull a boat twice a week with it.. I'm loving this stuff.
I've seen that residue on the inside of timing chain covers on subaru engines running full synthetic motor oil. Some with only 20K miles or less. I haven't seen Amsoil leave a residue like that in car engines or power equipment. Thats one of the benefits of running a 100% synthetic oil with very good additives.
@@BamaTidefan1967 , nope. Just the exhaust manifold bolts snapping and then that tick. Fixed that with headers, but as for valve and lifter tick, none. And the 2014 Ram with a HEMI take 5w20 for proper MDS function. The 392 challenger gets 0w40.
@@lylereinier4989 MDS works just fine with 5W30. I've been using nothing but 5W30, mostly Redline for the last 30-40 k miles with no issues. People saying that you must use 5W20 for MDS to function correctly are absolutely wrong. I just wanted to try Amsoil because with the discount its cheaper than Redline.
I put amsoil in my eclipse cross. Took it too Mitsubishi for a small recall. He took the head valve cover off on motor. Ran to the waiting room and said follow me because i have to show you the inside of motor after 40 thousand miles. The inside of the motor looked like a shiny brand new nickel in your pocket NO JOKE. AMSOIL SIGNATURE 0W20. Since brand new. Recall was fixed and car runs like a top.
This guy is saying that AMSoil is cleaning engine out, and leaving particles inside filter. That's normal. More oil changes will leave less residue. AMSoil is the best.
Engine oil lab test shop around the corner from my shop for years thats all they do is test oil in engines From their mouth Nothing touches amsoil performance
Had 480K on my old Volvo & engine was in fantastic shape when I foolishly sold it. Used Mobil 1 EP w oil change every 3K. Vented crank case gases to atmosphere like all engines should. Now use Amsoil SS. Change every 5k. (I like clean oil.)
Bruh legit kid you not, I have a 1998 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo, I got amsoil for it and put a wix xp oil filter on it. Just with me starting it after the oil change. It's runs WAY smoother, and weirdly enough gave it better throttle response.
I've been using Amsoil products since 1974, I've never had a problem. I currently drive a 2009 Ford explorer that just turned 269 thousand miles and runs like a top.
a few years ago I saw this same looking yuk in my engine ran a cleaner through with a new filter did oil change another new filter of course. Found the orange stuff in the second filter . scraped it out of the filter sent to oil testing lab with a sample of the oil also. they came back and said it was possibly paraffin from the inexpensive synthetic oil It was a name brand. I started using a different synthetic oil - Yellow bottle - never saw it since. now 6 years later I discovered Amsoil and am a very happy user of their products.
repairvehicle, do you think Amsoil Signature can free up compression rings by cleaning the carbon inside the grooves and behind the rings? I'm pretty confident that this type of oil can clean oil rings over time, but what about the other rings?
right on, I just bought some amsoil engine oil. noticed car drives overall slightly smoother, even appeared to slightly help the automatic transmission shifting just because the engine feels more crisp.

Unlike most engine oil filter brands, AMSOIL filters have an "Absolute Rating" An absolute rating gives the size of the largest particle that will pass through the filter media, the micron size (um). Absolute ratings are better for representing the effectiveness of a filter vs nominal rated filters. AMSOIL engine oil filters are Beta Rated, meaning the filters have an efficiency rating as well as the micron size rating. (ie) Beta 75 [Bx = 75] is 98.7% efficient at 20 um's. To my knowledge, this is the most efficient engine oil filter available on the market today. Please correct me if I am wrong, I know of no other filters available that provide this efficiency at 20 um's and rated for 25,000 miles. If there are 100,000/ particles per ml upstream of the filter in the oil system of your engine, rated at 98.7% efficient, this filter only lets 1333 particles per ml larger than 20 um's through each oil pass. For example if you have a filter with a nominal rating of 50% at 20 um's, this filter will let 50,000 particles per ml through the filter on each pass. Pumping all these particles through your engine lubricating system greatly increases the wear on the engine bearing surfaces. The AMSOIL engine filters greatly reduce engine wear by capturing 98.7% of the particles larger than 20ums. I believe these filters are 50% efficient at 10 ums.
Good video, brings awareness to many aspects of doing an oil change yourself. You just don't ever really know the conditions of filters or the oil when you go to a shop for an OC. I commented below, I do not know of any other filter brands that offers an "Absolute Rated" filter, as well as a "Beta Rating" and "Micron Size" rating, plus API approved for 25,000 miles with normal driving conditions. These filters offer as well significantly more oil flow as compared to a paper media filter. Yes they are more expensive, but significantly reduce engine wear by capturing more particles than any other filter.
Alright I'm sold. Buying a case for my next change. I had never heard of amsoil until I happened to stumble across a video. Thanks for the info. My jeep in just now at 50k and I'm curious to see how much gunk I can clean out. Thanks!!!
I highly recommend an AMSOIL oil Filter to go along with your next AMSOIL oil change. AMSOIL's long drain program works best with an AMSOIL engine filter. They have an application look up guide on the website, gives you lube capacities and filter options.
I use amsoil and filter with my 2015 supercharge chevy ss and my supercharge 2018 chevy silverado .... no issue been using it in all y pass vehicles as well
I run 5w30 boasted Amsoil 5 to 6 k then change. I'll never go 25k. As it says or as the ads run with it. I only have one car. My 2007 Chevy Impala 3.9l v6. 210,000 mi. I ran Amsoil 5w30 change 5-6kmi. This car had oil pressure sensor issues 4 times. 1st time was replaced. A year later. #2. Come on not again! They are to last 3/4 life of car. I was using Lucas oil synthetic. about 5kmi it came on. Research to find you have dirty oil! Change oil and codes all cleared. #3 5kmi. Oil pressure sensor codes again , don't panic, don't tell panicky friends say bla bla bla!! OH and remote starter failed evey time also. After changing oil every time the codes cleared and remote starter worked. #4. Change oil to 100% Amsoil boasted 5w30 6k mi no issues !!!! I'm staying with Amsoil !!
Have a friend that went 25k on brand X full synthetic oil. They advertise you can go a year. I think that's false advertising. Maybe the oil can sit around in the car for a year and put 5 k miles on it or not drive it very much. You better read the fine print and do your research cuz my friends car blew up at 25k miles. He even went to the company with no results. Total pain to get another motor. Use cation when change intervals go beyond reasonable logic. 12k 25k 100k mile change intervals or a YEAR. Hah.
25k miles is not for every engine. If engine has fuel dilution problems, sludge or some other problems it will fail at 25k miles oil change intervals or 5k miles interval. I have see engine failure at 3k oil change intervals due fuel dilution. Also, Chevy 5.7 went almost 1 million miles without engine repairs and changing oil every 25k miles. This engine did not make 1 million miles because valve keeper broke and destroyed the engine and it has nothing to due with oil. www.amsoil.com/performance-tests/archive/?zo=5257753
I run amsoil Signature series 5w30 in my ecoboost 15 taurus sho, normally these engines have an oil blowby problem with the pcv system. But after 20k miles that damn catch can is almost always empty, I don't think I'll run anything else. Plus it sat for 3 days and I remote started it and it fired up immediately, plus their atf smoothed out my transmission and even made braking to a stop smoother, normally it would clunk when downshifting from 3rd to 1st(it skips 2nd). No issues here 👍
I use it in my air cooled Honda XR 400 most synthetics today are way better than conventional oils well 0-20 0-16 are newer oils only available in a synthetic... Just change with a good synthetic oil at 3000-5000 miles your engine will last a long time
Full synthetic vs 100 % synthetic there is a huge difference between the two oils. I put Amsoil signature oil in my cx 9 turbo from day one. No issues at all .
Doubt if there would be with a full synthetic and a quality Purolator BOSS or ONE filter, changed at 5000 either! Still cheaper than the Amsoil 100% synthetic . But to each his own!
sure that isn't orange anti freeze getting in your crank case via intake manifold or head gasket ? did you do an oi analysis as well to check for other contaminates ?

I've been using Amsoil products for the past 15yrs and have no complaints. However, with this test it would have been much better if you cut open the other filter as well. This test was a little subjective being only one filter was cut open. Still, thanks for sharing.
Did you do an oil sample? If there is an issue an oil sample will help you determine that. I have been using Amsoil in my 15 liter for the last 198,000 miles and have been using a bypass filter and have never had build up like that.
Yes, before switching to amsoil. Previous owner wasn't using amsoil, just full synthetic oil every 10k miles, and now amsoil oil cleaning up the mess full synthetic left behind.
I just changed my Kawasaki z 400 2022 factory oil and filter with amzoil and I noticed that the bike ran smoothers and quieter. When I drove the bike I got 43.8 mpg. I love your videos but you need to add a magnet to the out side of the filter!
Call me crazy, but I just do synthetic changes and OEM filter every 3k. That way, youre not even giving the oil a chance to sludge or get much build up in it in the first place.
In reality full synthetic oil on average is good for 3k miles max. There are few exceptions, depending on vehicle brand and full synthetic oil grade. 100% synthetic oil is different class on its own

If I were you, I would run 5w30 because of Texas ambient temps. Oil will shear over time, your 20 weight will thin out very thin. At least 30 weight gives you some extra protection. The 1 million mile Tundra changed his oil once a month so additives were always fresh.
I would suggest a 5w-20 after 40K miles, then 0w-30 after 90 to 100K. Amsoil makes these weights. Note: the 5w-20 is also available in their High Mileage formula. Use a quart per oil change after the vehicle is 5 years old. Or you can use all High Mileage oil, every other oil change. Note: The 5w-20 is a very stable viscosity oil.

You didn't like clean oil with 20 microns ratings and chose 35 microns ratings for filtration? Stuff smaller than 30 microns is what causes the wear. Big stuff over 30 microns is when you have metal shavings, it's to late at this point. They referring to paper filter media, no oem uses paper filter. Why are they scaring people with paper when oem don't use and only low end aftermarket available that majority of people don't even use it.

@@repairvehicle When both Amsoil and Wix filters aren't available, what do you suggest? Polluting water? The oil from the filter is flushed out with brake cleaner then dried with compressed air. The oil is then disposed of according to EPA regulations in the city waste oil drop off site.

If you don't have sludge on the inside then it's safe to amsoil, otherwise amsoil will eventually remove sludge and expose cracked and damaged seals and oil will start leaking.

What is your opinion or thoughts regarding AMSOIL DIESEL injector cleaner and CATACLEAN? Would you recommend using those products? I use Amsoil 5w40 signature series on my 150k kms diesel truck.
What do you have? I strongly recommend using amsoil injector cleaner. Amsoil has data on their website how much their products makes difference. Cataclean has no data, no proof how much it works.
That is the result of that new oil is cleaning out an engine that been run with low grade oil and not changed as recommended. If you have a bad or poorly maintained engine this is the result of what can come out with Oil that can clean out old deposits.
Don’t use additive. With additive you are diluting perfectly balanced oil. I will have video with proof on my channel soon, hopefully before year ends.
There is no need to use Amsoil. Just change your oil regularly, 8K km or 5K miles. Kirkland synthetic from Costco works very well at a fraction of the price of Amsoil.
Having zero engine wear with amsoil, it's worth every penny. Improved fuel economy only comes with amsoil. Saving money on oil changes comes only with amsoil. Using amsoil products only pays, it does cost. Previous owner used full synthetic oil and amsoil oil is just removing all the carbon build created by other brands of oil.

I’d like your thoughts on replacing a quart of oil for fresh ATF and good run before oil and filter change. An old mechanic told me if I’d do that every so often, it’d keep the engine sludge cleaned out with ATF high detergent. But, I do not know? Also, I’ve heard Diesel engine oil has much higher detergent content? Another fellow I know who’s an engineer and mechanic believes the absolute best way to keep engine clean internally is to use full synthetic and change both it and filter every 3500 miles. But, I do not know myself? Would like your thoughts, very interesting video. Has me wanting to hunt down my local Amsoil dealer. Thank you for sharing your filter results, it’s very fascinating to me.
Atf does not work well when mixed with engine oil, severe wear will happen. Diesel oil is formulated differently and has different amounts of detergent depending on brand. Full synthetic oil is not synthetic at all, it's a synthetic blend. Running Full synthetic oil for 3500 miles can cause severe damage to the engine. Depending on the brand of oil and engine type, some synthetic oils are out of specifications at only 2000 miles. After 2000 miles oil is no longer lubricating engine, but destroying engine, on some cars and with some full synthetic oils.
Maybe I’m using wrong term with full synthetic, so I’ll name the brand he uses. Mobil one. Is that full synthetic or blend, I’m showing my ignorance I know. Mobil 1 says 5k on their oil but filter needs to be changed 3k. Like I say, I don’t know. But it seems common in most new car recommendations oil change every 5-7k or so? So, you’re saying I should use amsoil oil and filter and change every 2000 miles would be best? I’m trying to learn, because cars are so expensive, I need to make them last as long as I can....

Also, their low toxicity actually costs about the same as regular because it comes full strength (needs to be diluted 50/50) while other one comes pre diluted. It does have a shorter life span though.

I can't help but wonder, how cleaning detergents and solvent can clean and yet have lubricating properties of the oil stick to the metal parts. Aren't they the opposite?
For example dish soap, hand soap, body wash, has cleaning abilities and provides oils to the body. Car wash with wax and soap. Detergent is special chemical used by every oil motor, atf, fuel additives companies when formulating products. Solvent is used in brake parts cleaning, acetone, carburetor cleaners and so on. They are not opposite, it depends on the concentration percentage.
@@repairvehicle I say this because some Amsoil users have said that they have more engine rattle after using this oil. Wonder if there is too much detergent in this formula. I know a lot are happy with it too. Just curious.
It's possible because it is removing all the carbon build up from worn out parts and now you have relatively clean parts that have major wear and it will make rattling noise no matter what brand of oil you going to use on cleaner engine. There are people under impression that Amsoil oil will fix worn out neglected engine, but it cannot add material to worn out components. Also, there are Amsoil haters that say false information. Look at the politics and media.
Amsoil does not have too much detergent otherwise my engine would have severe wear. But it's opposite, no wear, zero wear on the engine. Verified via oil analysis, not once but many times.

Great advice. It truly is a cleaning oil.

I had just finished my break in on a SBC 400 and gave Amsoil a try. Over the next several years of drag racing and daily driving, I was shocked at every tear down. The engine looked like it just left the machine shop! No varnish on anything, anywhere.
Detergents in Amsoil dislodged the contaminants from the prior inferior oil and sent it to the filter.

My Toyota Tacoma runs amsoil signature series for 10K miles oil interval. No issues.
With Amsoil there is no issues. Amsoil makes best oil money can buy
Changing filters at intermittent intervals is as important as changing the oil itself.

If I were you, I would run 5w30 because of Texas ambient temps.
Oil will shear over time, your 20 weight will thin out very thin. At least 30 weight gives you some extra protection. The 1 million mile Tundra changed his oil once a month so additives were always fresh.
Theres nothing to stop you making up your own viscosity. In same make and series, mixing and matching works. Been doing it with amsoil for years.

Are the Amsoil filters the same as a WIX XP?
No
I got 241,000 miles on my 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 no lifter problems no cam problems just did the valve gaskets on it. Motor is not gummed up or gunky kind of a golden hue. I’m still running strong knock on wood and thank you Amsoil superior oil superior oil product.
What viscosity are you using? How often do you change your oil?
i believe these deposits on the filter ocurred because the amsoil cleaned the carbon build up off of the engine internals... i would guess that the next use of amsoil would not leave so much of these deposits because the first use, cleaned the engine already.
You are correct
@@repairvehicle i just purchased amsoil signature series 5w30. looking forward to using this oil. first time i have used "premium" amsoil. question, did you ever do this test again after this ?
Not yet, planning too.
I have ran Amsoil in my cars and trucks and my diesel Cummins for over 30 years whe never had a problem
How often do you change Amsoil oil?
I switched from an Amsoil filter to a K&P Engineering reusable filter, still use Amsoil flush and oil for oil changes.
@@repairvehicle Amsoil ran out of the filter for my car and disposing of oil filters is a PITA. If you want ulta filtration then installing a bypass oil filter will be a huge benefit.
There is a better alternative to k&p when Amsoil oil filter is not available. Polluting water with oil residue from filter is not any better than disposable filter
@@repairvehicle When both Amsoil and Wix filters aren't available, what do you suggest? Polluting water? The oil from the filter is flushed out with brake cleaner then dried with compressed air. The oil is then disposed of according to EPA regulations in the city waste oil drop off site.

Waste of money
if i use semi synthetic oil, then??

@@repairvehicle Just got a 2015 Lexus GS350 AWD in February. I've been using Mobil 1 Extended Performance since then twice. Was planning on switching to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum but might do Amsoil Signature if it's worth the extra cost.
Using amsoil oil at 2k miles is not any different than 15k miles. Amsoil oil formulated for long drain intervals. Using full synthetic oil, then change it more frequently. What do you have and year?

@@repairvehicle thanks for your reply. The recommended fluid for transmission is sae gl4 90. Amsoil is 75w-90. I hope i am picking the right oil. Also I have another little question about liqui moly mos2 engine oil. I have been using that oil for some time now and have not run into any issues so far. From Amsoil website "Recommended for use in differentials, manual transmissions and
other gear applications requiring any of the following specifications:
API GL-5, MT-1, MIL-PRF-2105E, Dana SHAES 234 (Formerly
Eaton PS-037), Mack GO-J, or other GL-5 based specifications

I don't see any problems using mos2, unless you are using incorrect viscosity. Also, there is nothing liquid moly website advising against using this oil.
Just found your channel...have a 2003 dodge Durango..can I use Amsoil full synthetic with no problems? And how often should I do oil changes with full synthetic?..willing to try all Amsoil products that you have recommended
What engine size? For what purpose do you use Durango?
Full synthetic? Amsoil is not a full synthetic.
Amsoil is 100% synthetic and it will not cause problems.
Amsoil is full synthetic I just switched all my fluids over to amsoil products that's how confident I am on amsoil products I won't wait 25,000 before I change oil but I can already tell you after changing out oil and transmission fluid my car feels smoother it's like the car can breath again that's the best way to put it so every 30,000 I will change transmission fluid and every 5000 to 7500 I will change oil and if I pass that I will have the confidence of knowing I'm still not hurting my motor if I go past that yes I know they say you can go 25,000 between but I don't want to risk that only because I'm not use to that yes this is new to me and yes a little more expensive but a lot less cheaper than a transmission or motor.
I change at 6000. I have 125k on mine and it runs so perfectly
The oil corporations have it done so as long as they have a certain amount of synthetic in it they can say fully synthetic and actually it’s not.

Do you use their coolant?
Is the coolant safe to use in a MB that requires the blue stuff?
Yes I do. Who requires blue coolant?
@@repairvehicle you use their regular coolant or low toxicity one?
Mercedes Benz uses the blue coolant, different formula then the green or red stuff.
What cars do you their coolant in? Any issues and have you seen any difference?
I use regular. MB doesn't make their own coolant they go to oil companies or coolant companies for the product.
Color doesn't determine coolant specifications it just a dye to separate themselves from others.
I use Amsoil coolant in my Ford, lexus and will be switching my Toyota and Ram Cummins also.
No issues, warm up little bit faster.
After digging more it's an issue between HOAT and non-HOAT coolants.
MB among others require HOAT coolant only (the green stuff is not hoat)
Here's what they say:
MB requires HOAT (Hybrid Organic Acid Tech.) coolant.
Any one on the below table will do, but Zerex G48 (blue) or Zerex G05 (gold) can be purchased at any automotive store.
Green coolant is a non HOAT coolant and is not accepted or approved.
------
Will amsoil coolant work in MB?
Info found on amsoil PDF concerning their low toxicity coolant:
Low-Toxicity, Biodegradable
beyond those provided by today’s conventional antifreeze and coolant products. Unlike conventional ethylene glycol-based products, which are acutely toxic....
Conventional ethylene glycol-based coolants are toxic, presenting a poisoning risk if ingested by children, pets, livestock or wildlife....
..... Propylene Glycol Antifreeze & Coolant is a proprietary hybrid organic acid (HOAT) formulation that does not contain phosphate, nitrite, silicate, borate or amine found in conventional antifreeze/ coolants
Conclusion; yes, the low toxicity coolant will work, I will switch my Benz over to it since someone put the wrong coolant in anyway and low toxicity is a plus in case it ever evaporates into the cabin.
I will switch all my vehicles over the the amsoil low toxicity coolant as well.
Also, their low toxicity actually costs about the same as regular because it comes full strength (needs to be diluted 50/50) while other one comes pre diluted.
It does have a shorter life span though.

For which vehicle?
