Well, the Twizy is actually safer than a Chinese midsize saloon.
I like the way it sheds all the body panels in the frontal impact like one of those Crash Dummies toys from the 90s.

It's actually advantageous to shed those body panels. It means that some of the energy has left the vehicle, so slightly less deformation of the cabin takes place.
RWBHere+ There's another benefit too, the shower of bodypanels will also disperse nearby pedestrians thus reducing the number of people gawping at you after the crash XD

Actually, the newer Chinese cars are all getting pretty good crash test ratings. It's mostly the Indian cars that are dangerous as hell now!

That car deserves a negative star rating.
Not sure, but this may be the desired behaviour to minimise harm done by seatbelt itself. It takes on the first blast and then releses not to break dummys chest.
IMHO, the Twizy has a good result, i wouldn't call it a failure, don't forget that the Twizy has no doors and it is supposed to be an upgrade to a motorcycle, not a true car. ;)
+Bryan M. You can get doors, which may provide a little more protection from side impacts. I am a soon to be Twizy owner, so cannot let this put me off.
Twizy is the next step of a light cuadricycle (Aixam, Chatenet, Ligier, etc) which are the next step of a scooter
It's not all about damage. The renault has little to none crumple zones which means all the energy is transferred to the driver.
'upgrade' yeah if only motorcycles held you on the bike and forced the handlebars into your face in a crash lol.
Can't filter in a twizzy so it isn't an upgrade from a motorbike. It's supposed to be an alternative to getting a 50cc moped on a provisional license.
Now i know the twizy isn’t a Volvo.. but i was amazed over that it got 2 stars... those are killer machines🙃
I'm so sorry but I really had to laugh out loud when I saw the Golf cart crash test. That poor dummy. However not funny at all when there are real people inside. Seems micro car producers have their work cut out for them now

Also not a whole lot to get into a serious crash with on a golf course, the worse thing that could happen is driving into a bunker.

It's not that the golf cart is unable to achieve 50 kph and quite safe on a fairway. These are also used on holiday camps & other places, where another vehicle could be in collision with one at 50 kph, or even 35 + 15 for the cart.

If a golf cart can achieve 50kph and it's approved as street legal for european roads, it should be tested as any other 4-wheeled vehicle.
In theory yes, however as it doesn't fall under vehicule restrictions or definition it doesn't. It's up to the driver then to be smart about it.

I've yet to see a golf cart that can do 50 km/h, particularly since they're banned from being faster than 30 Km/h in the EU, for obvious reasons... NCAP is trolling hard. As far as the others are concerned, c'mon... did anyone really expect different results?

since these small city cars don't get any real benefit in safety why just not ride a motorcycle for city traffic, honestly i feel safer on my motorcycle than in any of these microcars

You don’t get wet.
You can’t fall off them.
You can carry a few day’s grocery shopping.
These at least get up to one or two stars, motorcycles are on a solid -1, the only crumple zone is your face.
Motorcycles are WAY more unsafe.

the issue is its limited to 425kg or so... there is not much room for safety improvments without makeing it worse elsewhere.... if i would be in politics i would get rid of that so its 900kg empty weight give it a better motor like 25HP and 1000~ccm the car can be certified for dual speed mode aka 45 and 70... ppl with AM can get AM+ (6 lessons for securtiy) wich allows that the limit of the car is 70kph
golf cart aside, most of these dont even have a collapsible steering column.. They have been around since the mid sixties.

Those microcars are for 15 to 18 year olds who can't drive "real" cars legally. That's why it is pointless to compare them to Toyota iQ etc. The microcars are also limited to 50 km/h.

In Finland :D but young people have started to drive side by side atv´s they are more safe and quiker

The Club Car Villager cannot even drive 50 km/h. It can only go 40km/h. But it is concerning that the rest of these are theoretically allowed to do 70 km/h in Europe.

golf carts are supposed to be slow and used for security and golfing to get from one place to another in a park or school. i dont see golfcarts going 30 mph unless they are modified
Micro Quadricycle are limited to 350 kilograms. Good luck fitting in a decent chassis that can absorb those impacts within such limitations.

These micro cars are classified as micro quadricycles so the same as quad bikes. Once they get heavier to have proper chassis and crumple zones, then they just become cars.
The Twizy did very well for basically a motorbike with doors. The seat belt breaking in the Ligier is unacceptable, I hope it was pulled from sale straight away.
for twizzy the head is safe but not really the legs. at least you have a chance to survive
"Oncoming traffic does 50 km/h" that's why golf carts aren't made to drive in streets, that doesn't mean that the manufacturer should change the security level but the people should stop driving these vehicles in prohibited locations.
And tbh, if they're trying to simulate a 50km/h crash with oncoming traffic, they should've made the test with other car hitting the golf cart at this velocity, cause a car that ways like 1,3 tons doing 50 km/h have much more energy than a golf cart doing 50 km/h so the results would be much much worse
In US is town where they mostly drive by golf cart. It was planned for that.

No, they didn't forget it. As always, the Euro NCAP tests the Standard version of the vehicle and in case of the Renault Twizy, the standard version has no doors. You have to buy them separately.

That Chatenet car where the rear window shattered, but the windscreen held in the front crash. So not only is your vehicle rogered, but you've been killed by a thousand glass pieces to the back of the head.
C'mon guyz, when you say safety the Renault tweezy doesn't comes to mind. There are some vehicles in wich no human being has died this year and in 2017 too. But those are the Audi q7 and the volvo vxc90. It definetly came as a surprise for all of you.

Microcar, Ligier, Aixam and Chatenet are light cuadricycles, they are limited to 45 km/h per construction(49cc engine). They're mass is lower tan 350kg. They're not considered a car.
It's not fair compair them with the Toyota iQ that haves a 1.0 engine and weight 920kg.
robotwizard Legally, in Spain they aren't cars (like a 49cc scooter), they are light cuadricycles.
To drive one of those you don't need a driving license, only with a drive permission that you can get in a week is enough.
They're not build to be safe over theyr construction speed limit. It's an alternative to a 49cc scooter. I think a light cuadricycle y safer than a scooter. That's the objective that theyre manufactured for
They are not the same as a scooter. These have 490cc engines, the scooter will be 49cc. These would struggle to move with a 49cc engine because they are heavy enough.
i saw some guy driving an aixam at 80km/h on a nearby motorway and the car was registered as a quadricycle like ATVs usually are (not a light quadricycle like microcars usually are registered) which do not have speed limits here in Finland and you can drive them with a normal car driving license. seemed kinda sketchy but hey, law is the law.

The micro cars are predominately made for the French market. with a max speed of 50 kph they are driven on all French roads except the Autoroutes (130 kph limit) just about every driver has been banned from driving or never held a driving licence ( a loophole in French law) they are more expensive new than a basic car as these people have no choice. You can imagine how dangerous these plastic pigs are on a 90 or 110kph road.

We also have these micro cars in Belgium. People without a license, or with a suspended license can drive them legally.
For many decades, those cars didn't even have a license plate.(!)
It's only recently that they changed the law and the license plate became mandatory.
There are those in finland and almost every week there is a story about how a teenager died or was seriously injured driving these. These "cars" are nothing more than a 500cc engine and plastic and for some reason these cost as much as a real car, can go only 45km/h and still people buy these when you could have a moped or a scooter for fraction of the money and helmet is better than that thing.

Should the golf car run on the street and be hit by an incoming car, this would almost mean certain death for the golf car driver.

This crash test is completely biased. Most of these "cars" have 50kmh speed limit (plus they can be used only on urban road where the limit is 50kmh) and che crash test is made at 50kmh. Cars max speed is 140kmh to more than 300kmh, they can go on highways where the speed limit is 130kmh to infinite (on german autobahn) and the crash test is made at 70kmh.
Impact speed for urban vehicles should be around 30kmh.

This is really bad and "cars" like that should be forbidden on normal roads, because many (older) people don't know that it is very dangerous and not comparable with real cars. Before thinking about buying such a death trap, try to get a real driver license and buy an old VW Lupo or something like that - every car is much safer.
Then... People says that Grande Punto is the worst vehicle in euro ncap with 0 stars... Again, VAG group and BMW dropping shit over italian companies...
