I have been shooting ACE for about a month now. Love it! Your assessment is exactly what I suspect to be happening for for me. I have not yet confirmed like you just did at the range, but I suspect I will see "like" positive results. All the areas you mentioned I just know I'm getting gooder (at least in ACE LOL). I have a USPSA class tomorrow with a GM and I'm pretty confident the coach will see significant improvement in my transitions, permission parameters to send rounds, and lack of make-up shoots. I know he will ask "what have you been doing?" My answer... ACE :-)
I enjoyed your analysis. I just started playing with the ACE, and I found the visual processing to be the most benefit compared to dry fire mostly because the dot bounces up and down. You don't want to manually do this during DRY fire (for obvious reasons), but in live fire you are almost trying to ignore the dot while you continue to stare at a specific spot on the target. There's no other way (that I'm aware of) where you can simulate "the dot bouncing in recoil" other than live fire. I think before benefitting from the ACE, consistency and confidence in your grip needs to be a top priority and figured out during live fire (measurement drill, one shot return, doubles) otherwise you're just jerking off. This is the same reason why I thought I was hot stuff during dry fire and then wouldn't see the benefit in matches. My point is that if you don't have the confidence and understanding in your grip (knowing the right pressures for you to stick with the gun), once live fire happens (and the gun is in recoil), you're going to be doing things like moving the gun or trying to adjust your grip during splits/transitions.
Excellent demonstration, and explaining the lack of recoil from ACE. The next release of ACE should offer a CO2 type option to be able to simulate recoil. Thanks for breaking it down.
Interesting comparison. I have the Ace VR system and have shot that drill. Wish I was that fast. That is an easy drill to set up on the range though, and I will do that my next time there. Now I need to figure out how to record video in the Ace system.
You had 2 C hits in live fire. If you had had all A hits and subtract 0.5 from your time, then your live fire HF is 17.0. That's a pretty good testament to how well Ace VR does translate to live fire. Not perfect. But close. You DID have all A hits in Ace VR? Why are you not using a holster and doing a real draw in Ace VR? I have ordered a Q3 and an Ace handset. I am really looking forward to practicing with it all when I get it.
I had the same hits in Ace-12A, 2C-with a time of 3.6 seconds, about a full second faster. Half of that difference comes from starting at low ready versus drawing, while the other half comes from faster splits on the far target and the head box target. I don’t practice drawing in Ace except during drills with movement. I used to, but I stopped when I realized it was affecting my real draw. I believe this is due to the weight balance being thrown off by the large ring of the Quest 2 controller.

To record, just press the Meta button plus long trigger press. Same to stop recording. Short trigger press takes a screenshot.

Closest target is 3 yds, the 2 partials are 5 yds, middle is 15 yds.
Are the distances 5 yards, 8 yards, and 15 yards?
