How about hand-cranked arbor presses? Do they really limit the pressure applied to their rating? For instance, can a 1-ton arbor press be cranked had enough to apply much more than 1-ton of pressure?
Hahaha... classic! You are hand tightening the vice with a superman shirt... I always love to watch the videos you two make... :) They are always very informative and fun at the same time... :) Especially since I used to work in a machine shop... Thankyou for making such fun videos!
Hey guys, just wanted to say that I love your content, I've been subscribed for a while now, and I've watched you two grow into a wonderful channel! Keep it up, we love you! I cant wait to see your new press! Cheers from Kentucky! :)
In this week's episode of "Suomi Vise" (a remake of the 1980s "Miami Vice") we have the Suomi Vise squad Lauri and Anni putting the screws on some perps in their shop.
I just watched again the video where Timo cut a hole in the shop wall for a long pipe. It looks like that hole would be just off camera to the right of your vise and workbench in this video. I think we all need an update on how Timo covered that hole. 🌑👍
Are you going to see Slayer in Helsinki at the end of June? Last chance to see them live... I saw them in Sacramento with Behemoth and Lamb Of God about a year ago, absolutely brutal show.
You need to tighten it with a hammer and you'll get 5 Tons easily... That or you'll break the vice like most of us do when we want to pretend a vice is a hydraulic press.
I think if you put the handle in the middle and use your body weight on one side and pull on the other side you'll get a little more or if you use the extension bar you can probably get even more
Is that a bin of old cross-country skis in the corner behind you? What do you use those for in your metal shop? Or did Timo accidentally buy them at auction? 😁⛷
Giving something to an auction, and making thoughts about the sale afterwards. Thats exactly my kind of humour :D They should have thought about that beforehand, if they were smart people, like people from a university or something :D
I thought you were going to say that Timo "accidentally" bought the auction press. Expanding his scope of purchases from just milling machines to also include large hydraulic presses. 👍😀
No. That's a 150 ton sensor. I wouldn't go much higher with the hydraulic one either. It's not meant to be operated with as much force as the regular vice.
I remember back before the internet when the "hydraulic press pamphlet" used to drop into my letterbox every 3 months. If you wanted them to crush a particular object you could send a telegram and fifteen cents to pay for the electricity. Then they would crush that thing and write about it within about 3 years. To "like" a particular crush you had to actually travel to Finland and say "I liked that". But you got free cabbage rolls, which was nice.
Won't the hydraulic vice lose grip after maybe 1 hour when the hydraulic fluid leaks through the piston sliding joint? of course the seal isn't perfect.
You should have attached a breaker bar to the handle of the first vice. It would have greatly multiplied the amount of force that you could have imparted on the sensor. Maybe you should give it a try? I think that would have been "preddy gudd" don't you think???😁😁😁
From mechanical advantage calculations I guessed "about 3 tons" although you have to take into account screwthread friction and can't just do the force multiplication based on distance ratios.
considering the regular vice relies very heavily on the strength of the person tightening it, i would say Lauri's 2 ton estimation is "modest" and Anni's 5 ton estimation shows what she expects of her hubby, guess he can't quiet live up to her expectations :)
Ite oon käyttäny jatkovartta normaalin ruuvipenkin kanssa, joten varmaa aika iso voima myös? Voisitte ehkä kokeilla tota manuaali ruuvipenkkiä jatkovarren kanssa?
If you bought a press with more force than your old big one - could you (re)try to destroy the one bearing ball you were unable to crush? And second thing: how much force does a Vice create if you use a hammer to close it even more tight? Oh... And nice slayer flag in the background :D
If you want to see how much force Anni generates check out her powerlifting meet video th-cam.com/video/904-ICrG84o/w-d-xo.html :D
'ello :D
when you test for a break
Awesome trashcan in the background.

She did an amazing job at the meet!
This came in so handy today to help others understand why a vice is just not up to pressing many larger jobs.
No video is complete without a preddy guudd.
X2 on that comment 👍😂
I vaguely remember there always being a characteristic wat da faark too haha
Don't forget "holeeee sheeeet!"
Test next how much a bench vise can do with a 2m cheater bar before it breaks
I will try that with a cheap vise :D
@@Beyondthepress be sure to take the biggest one then, they are fairly cheap
I can say it will fit 2 front wheel bearings and then break the next time you use it from experience, but I have no idea on how much pressure 😂
@@Beyondthepress Yes, do that. Idea...do more "Fail" videos with shop tools!
How about hand-cranked arbor presses? Do they really limit the pressure applied to their rating? For instance, can a 1-ton arbor press be cranked had enough to apply much more than 1-ton of pressure?
That hüdraulic vise is amazing. I've never seen one of those.
But i fear because seals are not perfect, so it might slowly release the hydraulic fluid with time and the grip will loosen. then the load will fall.
Love the Fallout bomb-shaped trash can in the background! ❤️
I was going to comment the same thing.
yes! very cool
Very good video.... I hope this Channel is around for years!!!!!.
That new press sounds lovely!
2 years ago I did same experiment. But my sensor was only 15 ton. Big 10" bench vice produced 4300 kg, vice from my milling machine produced 5500 kg.
I really LOVE your content. It's not only fun and entertaining, but I learn stuff too!!
Please keep being safe and keep the videos coming you two!

just what everyone wanted to know but nobody was about to ask, keep up the great work
Moi! Lauri and Anni. The second vise was great, fist time I have seen one of those, pretty good! :)
Cool concept. Thanx. When's Anni's turn at the vise?
I like how she cheered for him ... and then won the bet!
Actual test: how much force can Lauri generate on a vise.
The way you said serious almost sounded like cereal, and now I am hungry for some.
hahaha The Superman shirt is very appropriate for this video. XD
Amon Amarth and Slayer!!!🤘🤘. I just saw them last week!! Rock on!

Is it hydraulic vice channel?
you should screw vice from right side, pushing down from top to bottom, and use gaspipe as extension for greater force
Are you going to see Slayer in Helsinki at the end of June? Last chance to see them live... I saw them in Sacramento with Behemoth and Lamb Of God about a year ago, absolutely brutal show.
New press sounds exciting. With more built in measuring, the conclusion find should be much easier and you can concentrate on the rest of your setup.
I would like to see tests with longer and longer levers
You wore the perfect shirt for this video bud 👌
That new scientific press might be great for testing safety materials. Like kevlar plates etc.
Very intresting 🤔. Would be interested into measuring my homemade treadle forging hammer. Would need a more sensible sensor though.
It can’t be too dangerous for you, you’re an professional expert youtuber.
😂😂🤣
@Beyond the press
What are your plans with 'Fat Boy' visible @3:22?
its a trash bin...
Looks more like _Little Boy,_ than it does _Fat Man._
@@xenonram 😯 👍
It has a bit of both.
It's too dangerous to sell, because they've heard of some crazy guy on the internet who crushes dangerous stuff.
"This press is very expensive, and we must do a deal for it"
You need to tighten it with a hammer and you'll get 5 Tons easily...
That or you'll break the vice like most of us do when we want to pretend a vice is a hydraulic press.
Get a Record vice - renowned for bending the bar or ripping out of the bench (usually with the scaffolding pole accessory) and not breaking!
HFStuart I used to have one of those huge record vices. The biggest ones got rid of it though.
I think if you put the handle in the middle and use your body weight on one side and pull on the other side you'll get a little more or if you use the extension bar you can probably get even more
- makes hydraulic press noises -
Is that a bin of old cross-country skis in the corner behind you? What do you use those for in your metal shop? Or did Timo accidentally buy them at auction? 😁⛷
do you have a kurt vice? how about a cam lock vice, like you see on newer horizontal bandsaws?
Giving something to an auction, and making thoughts about the sale afterwards. Thats exactly my kind of humour :D
They should have thought about that beforehand, if they were smart people, like people from a university or something :D
They were thinking they wanted more money for it.
Pretty impressive power there by hand.
I thought you were going to say that Timo "accidentally" bought the auction press. Expanding his scope of purchases from just milling machines to also include large hydraulic presses. 👍😀
Lauri, that's a pretty good workout. Lol
Kind of like arm wrestling, but with the vice. 😆
Why did you stop at 5 tons with the hydraulic one?
Phoenix AF the sensor can broke of it goes over 5 tons
No. That's a 150 ton sensor. I wouldn't go much higher with the hydraulic one either. It's not meant to be operated with as much force as the regular vice.
His dad will get angry if he breaks the hydralic vise
very interesting I never expected that
You guys are so awesome ! Thank you
Amon Amarth!
VIKINGS! RAISE THE SHIELD WALL!
Excellent, thank for sharing!
Your Superman shirt is apropos.
Yuck.
Man that was some awesome calibrated 25kN.

You should get really long pole and crank it until the vice breaks.
I would like to see some vice busting too.
I want one of those load cells. Where can I get one?
You should try the ol hammer trick. That gets a vise nice and tight.
You should have attached a breaker bar to the handle of the first vice. It would have greatly multiplied the amount of force that you could have imparted on the sensor. Maybe you should give it a try? I think that would have been "preddy gudd" don't you think???😁😁😁
I spy an orange color trash can that is shaped like a bomb. Now I must go search the Internets and find one of my own.
Wesco Spaceboy - Trash Can

what is that yellow bomb like thing?
Wesco Spaceboy - Trash Can
Hydraulic vices are all we use for our milling machines that have vices.
I love your rocket ship trash can.
Depends on how tempted you are in Vegas.
Interesting... In metal training we payed someone 50bucks so we can clamp his head in a vice... Good that we didnt pushed it hard I think..
Definitely not worth of 50 bucks to get your head crushed :D
Yeah definitely worth 100 at least.
10 million goes to your family. Do you do it?
@@SmokesOnMe My wife would sign me up for it without a second thought! LOL Wait, it's not really funny!
Just the tought of it gives me a headache😨
Nice video i guessed 3 ton...but from *superman* i expected at least 50 tons 🤣🍻🏴☠️
Really cool hydraulic vice!
Use the Force
Hey Lauri, did they ever end up selling that other press?
@1.24 strange way to tighten a vice, it’s always easier use your weight to push the handle down rather than trying to lift it up.
I weigh only 90kg but I can lift lot more so for max force it's better this way
You earned that shirt 😀
soo, why is this beyond the press? it is still pressing, right?

Took me about 2.4 seconds to upvote this one.
Did you get that on high speed camera?
Holeeeee sheeeeeet that was fast! 👍
Maybe measure the force produced from a car jack ie jack->sensor->immovable structure
what is that intro song !
"Hello, and welcome to the manual vise channel..."
How much force is needed to destroy an force Sensor?
Lol, I don’t own a vice that doesn’t have a bent handle, what does that say about me as a fitter?
Same here.
Cheater bar, huh?
That you buy cheap vice!
@@JGnLAU8OAWF6 Nice guess.
That you try too hard?
but by default i use to hit the metal lever with the wooden upper part of a rubber hammer.
In my experience, it depends on the vice: Gambling, drinking, or smoking?
We bought a new press. It is a bit stronger, one bus more weight!
"little" is not same for everyone 😂
wow, never seen a hydraulic vice! nice!
Amon Amarth Rocks!
Really intresting - it geneated more force than I thaught, haha
The real question is, how many Abom torques does that translate to?
Ite oon käyttäny jatkovartta normaalin ruuvipenkin kanssa, joten varmaa aika iso voima myös? Voisitte ehkä kokeilla tota manuaali ruuvipenkkiä jatkovarren kanssa?

what about that orange rocket on the back?
Wesco Spaceboy - Trash Can
To achieve chooch factor 11 you have to bend the vice handle with a 10 lb sledge hammer.
lol like the rainbow abacus!
Antyone wonder where the piece of steel pipe about 5 ft long is? Amazing numbers without though.
Anni's estimates are usually the most accurate.
Yes! For some reason! 😀
Whether the wife wins or loses,
The wife ALWAYS wins.
