Out of context, I'm having a musical existential crisis... I've been following you for like 4/5 years now...the way you conceptualize techniques and stuff has helped me alot... I even have the ability to just lay back and create concepts in my mind or listen to tracks and grasp what they did and sort of flip it you know the deal ....I think I am creative I can make Madlib Kanye West J Dilla type beats and all that, even Trap and House ....so what's my problem?my problem is I don't finish beats anymore I get frustrated I mean yeah I can make dope beats buh so can the guy sitting next to me... There are so many of us(producers/musicians) and not to sound harsh on myself or anyone,buh what we/I am doing is just nothing new it's like we are just making music for the sake of making music(which is not bad) I love music that's why I hate the fact that I'm kinda making remixes ofcoz it's a sample I only touched but you can feel that normal ,usual cliche approach on that sample(I actually hate samples now)...I like the Knodvilles and headnods experiment,all fucking sick and fresh that's why right now I'm like I'm Fucking stuck in this space and who can help me but sir Jfilt?so my question is what does it mean to be a musician in these time and age?I'm hoping you could make a video on that,on how do I commit to my art how do I get paid(do it for the love but youknow gotta wait),how do I push boundaries,how do I stop following lanes(boombap is not as saturated as trap buh it's still plenty and we all are trying to be Dilla Madlib like),how do I get disciplined how do i maintain that positive energy that you always got ,that work ethic(I mean look at the videos you've put out so far,countless, not even mentioning the stuff you do on Instagram).....I will comment on several video in hopes you read these...Coming from Pretoria,South Africa,your wisdom reaches this far....peace and positive energy god!
First thanks for the question and comment. I think the definition of what it means to be a musician is subjective but for me it's just someone who creates from the heart. I don't care if you sample or not, you still have to put something together and that takes musicianship no matter how simple or complex. Commitment comes down to passion, need, and desire. I always say stop comparing yourself to others and just do you and what comes out just comes out. Yo playa, been watching your vids from the start, you have talent brotha. But I have to ask, how is it that a producer of your caliber doesn't have the 8 outputs installed. Please bro, before you upgrade anything else in your studio you need to invest in the 8 outs and also get yourself a 8 channel mono TS snake. Having the 8 outs makes life so much easier when tracking out, and this upgrade will make your 2000xl a PRO edition for the Studio. Much love. peace
Got it done thanks to your video! Had to make some extra adjustments as the screw holes on the bottom of my MPC were bigger and the small screws sent in the kit wouldn't do. Went to the local hardware store to get some longer screws and a few mini hexagon washers and the magic is rolling!!
triton gangggggggggggg!!! sadly the 88 key Triton uses a slimmed down version of a floppy drive, making it quite a bit harder to swap out. its also a nightmare to open up. instead, i went with the Scsi2SD drive. no installation required! just plug it into the Scsi jack on the back and use microSD cards! ;)
Hey, I’m trying to install 1.2 on my 2000XL with a floppy disk but when I put it in no files show up and it says “Type=???????”. I’m thinking the floppy drive is busted, or the disk is corrupted. Maybe I’m just doing something wrong. Any ideas?
Could be the disk, the drive or the file. I had the same thing managed to get it sorted using an ollllld PC to put the OS file onto a floppy. Using the newer PC’s/disk drives creates some weird files on the disk that the MPC doesn’t like. Where you based as I’ve got the disk I used….
Also is there an easy fix to re securing the bottom panel. Mine came with half the screws missing and some stripped out seemingly. Size or troubleshooting recommendations? I am just getting started and holing to make my Akai MPC 2000 XL SE as part my main mixing stuff. I also need to figure out which optional extras are worth it ? I already have the 32 mb SIMMs. But no F-rom , no 8 mix out , and no effects board. The chip is also missing on my SMPTE board. Which optional features are worth installing?

I have a zip drive in mine still. I have the 1.20 OS coming on ZIP . Should be here soon. My question is will I have to put the disk in or have the new OS on external memory for every time I turn it on or will the new OS stay on internal memory?
I had another troubleshooting question. I was going to stick with the zip disk drive in the front for now and external SCSI hard drive for memory. Do you know if I am using Mac formatted zip disks and loading sounds on them from my mac computer with a USB powered external zip drive then stick them into the MPC 2KXL will the Akai read it? I'm offended by your use of the shot glass😁. Good tutorial I did one on this very subject some time back. Opted to install a zip drive in the end, as my flash drive was not the hot swappable kind.
Hey VSB This video has been very helpful for me. I've been installing a C.F. drive non hot swappable to my MPC2000XL, So a lot of what you're doing here applied as well. As for my weapon of choice? The MPC500 keeps on coming through for me And it's worth everything I paid for it at it's original release price Maybe that will change when I have an up and running XL Only time will tell 😁
Thank you so much for this. I still use an external zip disk drive with zip disk which are harddddddd to find! I was wondering if there was an external card reader I could just attach using the scsi chord I had already been using from the zip disk? The reason I would suggest to try the external is if you wanted to transfer files from the floppy you use, you would have to change the device to floppy to load and still have the floppy drive and then click the shift enter again to switch from floppy to ATAPI and then re attach the cd reader to save it on the card. Unless you already have every song sound on your isolated on your computer. I guess I'm just oldschool, I have everything on the MPC in song mode already and just record the songs into the pc. But an external cd reader demonstration would really help me and others out if you did a video on one. 🤔 👍

Hey man I've found your videos to be so helpful and a huge inspiration for me to get a 2KXL. I love your mini-series on how different producers use all these dope techniques to get the sound they want. Anyway I'm brand new to all of this so I'm definitely a bit lost, and I've tried finding info on forums but it's hard finding a solid answer. I basically want to sample my grandpas old jazz records but my turntable is a Music Hall MMF 2.2, so no preamp built in. Do I just need a DJ Mixer that has the built-in preamp and plug that into the MPC? I also will be utilizing an og SP-404 since they compliment each other so well, and in the future I'll incorporate a midi controller. I guess I just don't know what hardware/cords I'll need to achieve a decent workflow, any help is appreciated! Oh also my MPC has the 8 outs and max memory but it's still floppy-only (I plan on getting an SD or CF card reader as soon as I figure out which is better).
Yes get a mixer, you need RCA cables to connect turntable to mixer. Another set of cables to go into MPC but you will need RCA to 1/4' adapters to go into the inputs of MPC from the mixer. Follow me on twitch.tv/verysickbeats and i can show you my setup

I have already replaced the floppy drive with a USB emulator. I wanted to do the same with the zipdrive 100 IDE. I want to change the zip100 to something that does the same as the usb emulator. Do you have any advice that can help me? I am grateful for an answer. Cheers.
I was afraid of this, 1GB SD cards are not sold anymore and you have to be a really good sleuth to avoid getting scammed online with them. Best thing is look for them used or from sellers showing you actual product for sale, and not stock images. Also, that drive is the SCSI 50 pin drive. There is also a ATAPI IDE version you can buy waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper on ebay or amazon. Now the cable you have there for the drive itself is a 50 pin scsi ribbon cable, you can get from any really old computer from the mid 90s that used scsi internal hard drives or older apple mac computers that all used 50 pin internal scsi drives. The power cable looks to be a floppy drive power cable so reusing the one plugged into the floppy drive would be better as it will fit the onboard white connector just right and will CLICK into place, and the drive end of that cable is the same as on the sd card drive featured here. Seems also, 1GB is the limit for formatting sd cards. You can not use new high capacity cards and format them down, as the card reader controller will not recognize the sd card controller for SD HC and SD XHC cards.
@@dee1380 Indeed, I found some too. Most are from CHINA, which can be a 50/50 on whether the item is legit or not. Usually these small capacity cards will be legit. If you see a 1TB sd card for a low price from China, then you KNOW it is NOT legit lol! I myself just went to my friend who thrift shops alot and got some cards from him instead(mostly from used old digital cameras).
I’ve been there before just stick with it. Through difficulties come ease. When I first got my first one I thought 💭 about selling it because of the learning curve. I purchased a ebook from akaimpc forums on the 2kxl. The manual that came with mine didn’t do it for me.
Also just check TH-cam videos. When I first got mine I had to learn how to add bars to get to four bars instead of being stuck on 2. Also the Mpc is set to poly when you go into program and simulate. Turn it to mono for drums and sample
I can't tell you what to do. my exp. leave those sd readers alone in any mpc. caution if you decide to have a sd card make sure your data is backed up.

I’ve been there before just stick with it. Through difficulties come ease. When I first got my first one I thought 💭 about selling it because of the learning curve. I purchased a ebook from akaimpc forums on the 2kxl. The manual that came with mine didn’t do it for me.
Also just check TH-cam videos. When I first got mine I had to learn how to add bars to get to four bars instead of being stuck on 2. Also the Mpc is set to poly when you go into program and simulate. Turn it to mono for drums and sample

I can't tell you what to do. my exp. leave those sd readers alone in any mpc. caution if you decide to have a sd card make sure your data is backed up.
found the drive but 200$ is crazy they from china most likely and super cheap
if you find one cheaper please make installation video and i'll share it
how much sample time is on a 1gb sd card?
