I bought this efx board which should arrive in a few days, and I'm beyond excited. Thank you so much for what you do. Your beats, your videos, your vibe, all of it... objectively on point.
Even for late 90s standards, they were considered poor. Every Alesis or Roland FX unit would beat it quality and performance-wise. The only thing amazing is the nostalgic emotion attached to it, which is why they are so expensive nowadays, and is why I like it too. Technicality is not the only thing that matters.
I have the mpc 2000xl MCD for 2 years and I have just discovered that it is equipped with the eb16 card 😂😂 as I did not know how to use it I thought that I did not have it. thanks to you thank you
Very interesting. I have this effects board for a 3000xl. The options are displayed in a different layout obviously than the MPC. I didn't realize you could solo multiple effects in a chain. Thanks.
Man I had my FX board in my MPC 2000 for years, but never thought to use it like a SP1200 in Vintage Mode on the new MPC's... I might buy & install a new LCD Screen just to mess with the FX's... #GreatVidBro...🎥🎬🎥

I bought the classic 2000 right after it became available back in the mid-90ies and after a short stint with the f*cked-up 1st gen 1000, settled with the 2000XL-MCD. I was always curious how adding that FX board would open up more possibilities on that wonderful machine. Can't wait 🤩
There's a huge amount of variation in card readers for the XL. SCSI or IDE, Compact Flash or SD, expensive hot swappable multi card reader or $3 ebay adapter. Differences in what OS you need for which features. Whether you want it to be a neat and tidy solution or DIY that shit. Then there's a huge amount of flash card variation in what will and won't work. I've bought five different CF cards off ebay and only one of them works, a 256MB Kodak.
How do feel about the quality of the effects compared to your SP404? It seems convenient but other than the Hi Pass I'm not overly impressed.... for akai to have had this as an extra feature should have been standard. My MV8000 has some really nice effects that I run a lot of stuff though it..... But anyway even though you can't play your tracks while sampling I still love the 2000xl.

I'm not sure what I do know is on the 2000 and 2000xl you can't play your sequence while sampling..... so you can't play another instrument along with your beat... butI know you can on the 5000 and the new mpc's like the Ren and up... this is the main reason I sold my 2000xl and went to a X..... I never tried the 2500, 1000, 3000 or 4000

Exactly where do you lock 🔐 the screw in? I just installed the 8 outs on my Mpc 2000XL. I purchased this Akai EB 16 from the same seller waiting for it to arrive.
That's when I learned not to listen to the internet. Like one or two dudes who probably didn't even know how to use it said that and then hardly anyone brought one... except for the fact that people that brought it never complained they were too busy making beats with it.
I really want one even just for the high pass filter, so limiting only have low pass. Things get real muddy real quick without cutting off the lows on some samples. Problem is they're usually way too expensive, like more than half what I paid for my whole MPC. And mine has the 8 outs.
Marlo, please help me. I noticed in the video that when you connected the eb effects board, all you did was squeeze it and it connected easily into place. My question is: that screw hole on the lower left hand corner, you just did it with your fingers. Is a screwdriver not needed for that? Thank you.
The effects are of poor quality and you could definitely buy a much better outboard effects unit for the same money. I mean I wouldn't bother throwing that card in a rack sampler if I had the room for a dedicated effects processor.
This is exactly the type of demo of the effects that I wanted to see. I know the 1000 is objectively better, but how do you feel about the effects on the 1000 compared to the 2kxl?
if you don't have experience with any MPC, get a live. When you buy vintage equipment, you have to be prepared not only for it's limitations, but the maintenance of keeping it running properly.
MrDebauch what if you have a good deal on one? $450-400 for an XL? Is it worth the learning curves and the extra saving of the few dollars not getting the X?
@@MrDebauch Had my MPC 2000 Studio Plus since it came out in 1997. It still works as brand new. Including Floppy. Although nothing in life is guaranteed to last forever. MPC 2000's are reliable af. Just find one that wasnt abused. Plus they are built a ishload better than that plastic ish.
@@dianevrules I feel you... But not everyone is in the vintage equipment game so they may not know what to expect... I am still rocking the 60, the 2000 classic, and the mpc live. (Live is not plastic by the way... But you do have a solid point by your statement) Older machines are worth it if you know what to expect.... But it is not for everyone
Hey man love your beats and the channel, this video in particular has been of use to me in upgrading my old XL, I bought a one owner from new 3000 got the 8 output board ( that needs an XL specific metal subframe to fit so not yet connected ) and the effects board, I just can’t get sound to go through the effects board, direct sound works, turn it off nothing, set the channel to M1 or M2 on the effects edit and send screen nothing, the only thing I can find is when I press open window on the channel with the sample another box opens up called channel settings below individual is volume 100, below that it says output, I just have a line, if I highlight that and turn the wheel I can select 1/2 3/4 and so on but not L/R I’m just wondering what yours says, I might have to wait to fit the 8 output but as you have pretty much the same setup I was just wondering if you could help me by letting me know what it says when you open up channel settings, I literally have watched this video 10 times and followed it to the smallest detail, I don’t actually recall my board actually saying eb16 on it, it may have, I’m not sure but it fits perfectly with the screw and everything and the screen and layout is exactly the same as on yours anyways any help would be much appreciated!!
Pretty sure when I was in fx mixer the channels were muted by default, I think I highlighted them and used the jog wheel, followed the other info in this video and it works, haven’t used it in a while, hopefully that helps ?

To me the great thing is that you can use the eq to create a high pass filter for the samples.

They're good, it's not game changing but it's good. The hardest thing is not having direct resampling on the XL.

Did you ever get the FMX008 Flash Rom Board? It allows you to shutdown and come back with everything loaded still.

danehb89 Yea this is a pain. Try recording your samples in through a mixer and take the low end out. That’s what I do
where can I get that Bridge your using for the eb16? doesn't it normally stand at 90 degrees from the motherboard?

I like it. Many people say it isn't worth it but I like using it. If you get one for cheap I don't see why you wouldn't want that extra fx.
