Hey great video, I need your help though I have a compact Flash card loaded it with sounds my akai 2000 XL is not recognizing the card. What do I do, need your help.
finally updated my mpc to 1.20, got the startech drive, everything all hooked up nice an dandy, but when i put in my 1gb transcend card, when i turn on my mpc, the screen is all glitchy. the text is all fucked and it freezes. it looks like gosh darn missingno. wondering if you had any suggestions before i go to mpcfourms 2 get clowned on.
Maybe transfer it to another device and load it into your MPC2000XL. It's probably possible, but it's just super hard. I recommend you just sample it again.
Appreciate the info. I hit a snag and couldn't figure out why the cf reader wasn't showing. I switched from a Zip drive. I looked at the photo of the power cable you posted and my question is, am I supposed to connect the yellow and black cables together or are they just taped up to kill them? The connection i have, the yellow and black cables were cut all the way down so I stuck new yellow and black ones in their place and then froze up before connecting them together cause I don't want to blow out my motherboard. I'd really be grateful for the intel. Thanks in advance.
The only hot swappable, w/o issues and buggy behavior I know of, are the cf card readers from late model 2000xl's (blue ones). They come up on eBay every once in a while. Not cheap. Anything under $200, buy it. Also the one made for the machine, bolts right in, no mod b.s. or intermittent issues. Smooth sailing.

Hello! Going through this joyful process now! I had a question about installing the MPC OS--I have the download, but it extracts to some weird binary file with a .cpgz extension. Do I simply throw this file onto my SF card as the installation process? The file isn't executable on my Mac, so I'm unsure what it is (and how to install it). Thank you!
@Self Preneur Thanks, but is there no way to mount the OS on the CF card without buying anything else? Do you mean that I can purchase CF cards on Ebay with pre-installed 2000xl software?
@Self Preneur no, unfortunately. That's why I was hoping to upgrade it. :) Are only floppy drives with the OS available? If so, I guess I could clone the floppy drive onto a CF card but that seems like much more work than it should be to just extract the software.
@@KirkPearsonThePerson I hope you see this! Did you get this solved? I'm in the same boat. Zip died, os on 1.14, so how do you get 1.2 on the machine? Seems like no one wants to help. Sounds like either through the scsi to a external disk drive or reinstall a disk drive internal, then update, then reinstall cf. What did you do?

First thing is: Shift 8, not 2, then f3 to see operating system. Had to rewind 8 times on my phone to see he is actually hitting 8 on the left pad since it is so far away. Hope that helps someone. Thanks for posting, not being a d:ck, just correcting b/c that had me puzzled til I figured it out.
Felipe Duenas no, i believe hot swaps require os 1.14. regardless they are harder to find and more expensive, ive never needed a hot swappable anyway. a gig is a lot of space for me.

Hey man, was the power input plug the same as the floppy drive? Also do I need an ide cable as the floppy is on scsi? Thanks
Haven't got my CF card yet but got the same reader as you. Should the MPC be recognising the drive without a CF card in the reader?
Once you get this is it worth also doing the up grade of ram or not for the 32RAM ?

Does this work on the mpc2000 classic as far as atapi?
