    First; the bass weights 3,9kg
    BIG mistake in this one and thats why i am confused in the video: the bass works with a blend ,bass,treble and volume knob..there is no mids knob like i thought. so please keep attention which knobs i turn in the video.
    Sorry!

    • @Spidouz
      @Spidouz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You're not a bassist (neither do I), so we can perfectly understand the confusion. And also, only people that don't do anything never do mistakes. We live & learn... it will give another excuse to make an "update" video later :)

    The Bass has volume, balance, treble and bass (no mids). The pick-ups are single coil, so when the balance is turned to the front or back pick-up you will have some buzzing which is normal. While the balance is in the middle the pick-ups are quiet because they are in like humbucker mode. (two coils). I have this Bass in fretless...

    • @seanmcgeeney4570
      @seanmcgeeney4570 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hiya Bass Player, what are your thoughts on the fretless, are you happy with it? I have been looking at getting the fretless version, but also looking at the HB JB40-FL, which sounds really lovely. However, it is a 4 string, but maybe it will help keep my hands used to a 4 string. I just have one other 4 string, which is a Hofner Ignition, and all my others are 5 string. So I'd love to hear your thoughts on the fretless you have. Many thanks. Sean

      @@seanmcgeeney4570 It's a really nice bass, and it looks great. I don't play it much now because i have so many Basses. It's hard to find a no line fretless these days but that was all there was back in the 80's when I started playing fretless. You can't beat it for the money...

    I know you are not a bassist Cory, it it was entertaining seeing a guitarists view of how an active eq works :)
    A little pointer for anyone trying this as a guitarist in future, if the eq has detents (notches in the middle of pot travel) that is generally 0 meaning you can cut and boost that eq, and also there is generally a pan/blend pot as a pickup switch (turn towards neck and it's more neck pickup until it's 100% then turn it towards bridge for bridge pickup until 100%).
    Bass does look awesome, I'm not a neck through guy myself... I get the benefit but still prefer a nice solid bolt on.

  • @Leo_ofRedKeep

    This looks and sounds like a great bargain. I have made that fret buzz experience with Harley Benton before. I had to file down a 6th of a fret on an ST-62, another 6th of a fret on a R-458 and parts of 5 or 6 frets on an SC-450Plus. It seems a bit but then I was able to get the action down to 1.5 mm on the bass side and the guitar is otherwise in perfect shape. For little money and a little extra work (and really, filing down a fret is such a simple job), I have three guitars I wouldn't want to give away.

  • @Spidouz
    @Spidouz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    9:01 That's kind of weird, I'm not a bassist at all, but it seems like basses generally have one volume knob per pickup and then have a Bass & Treble EQ knob. Did you try to check if the "medium" you got was not the fact to bring the second pickup instead??

    • @Cactusbutt
      @Cactusbutt 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the model I suppose. When there is an active EQ in a bass it's usually treble, mid, bass. That's what my LTD atleast has.

    • @igorvuk4454
      @igorvuk4454 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      4 pots means bass, treble, balance and volume.

      @CoryMura  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yep,exactly. Igor is right

    • @Spidouz
      @Spidouz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yep, it could be either balance or two volumes, it depends from what I saw so far. But either way, it's only bass & treble for the EQ, no mid. The mid seems like bringing more of the bridge pickup, either with the bridge volume or the Balance pot. If it's a center detent pot, it would make sense it's a balance then. My 2¢

    • @Spidouz
      @Spidouz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cactusbutt if your LTD only has one pickup, then it would make sense. If you have two pickups, it wouldn't make too much sense, since we need to balance the pickup volume, by either two volume pots, or a volume and a balance. Does it make sense?

    where is the balance adjuster?

    • @k.h.1587
      @k.h.1587 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What he is erroneously thinking is mids is the balance, notice how the hum gets worse and the mids don't change much unless he is at "zero" which is a natural scoop with both pickups in parallel.

  • @bert_buikema
    @bert_buikema 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is not the 'mids' EQ knob but it is the pickup blend or balance knob. When you turn it away from the middle position you start hearing noise because the pickups are single coils.

      Richard Mccain yah, that’s impossible.

    • @ethanlancaster76
      @ethanlancaster76 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are single coil J p’ups and the wiring will not change anything to do with the polarity of the magnetic pole pieces that are on the opposing sides of the two pickups. This was actually an ingenious idea by Leo at the time because by having two single coil pickups facing the opposite direction allowed the bass to be noiseless by canceling the dreaded 60 cycle hum when both volume knobs are turned all the way up that permanently changed the sound of records forever by allowing the very distinctive focused and pronounced tones of the single coil pickup to be used which can be aggressive yet extremely musical and can cut through any mix but still lay balanced in the mix with a great low end foundation and practically immediate responsiveness that facilitated some amazing virtuosity on the electric bass by players across all genres of music that the split single coil pickup made much more difficult with it having much more latency and sometimes being a little muddy and not as focused as the single coil J p’up. That’s just one of many reasons why it’s so highly revered by some of the best players in the world since it’s inception in 1960.
