Vivaldi loopt als een rode draad door het leven van Giuliano Carmignola. Als kind hoorde hij zijn vader Vivaldi spelen, later deed hij het zelf bij de Virtuosi di Roma. Giuliano Carmignola bespeelt een barokviool. De puntige klank laat het speelse en vitale van De vier jaargetijden extra goed uitkomen. Kammerorchesterbasel voert daarnaast een inventief concert voor strijkorkest van Vivaldi uit. Ook hier hebben de violen weer het hoogste woord.

A supreme pleasure to see and hear Maestro Carmignola performing at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, imo, the best acoustic hall I have ever been to. A unique tribute to the highest art that mankind has devised.

Oh Mr. Carmignola! You never disappoint me! This version of the "Il grosso Mogul" with coughing geese in due cori is just fantastic! ;)
In the program was claimed that Giuliano Carmignola plays the 'Baillot'-Stradivarius, built in 1732.
Wonderful to relive the concert once more and without the red cord which is always very annoying! Thank you AVRO and Thank you Concertgebouw for removing the cord for once!

What a great performance. Some people on the audience needed -- for their own sake, for the musicians respect, and for all of us who would listen to this recording -- to be in the hospital. Give me a break! Coughing during piano moments and the violin solos is, musically speaking, unforgivable. Mr. Carmignola and the orchestra deserved a better audience.

Kaum zu glauben, wie gut die Violine bei der Strichlänge noch klingt. Tolle Musiker, aber super ernst und irgendwie freudlos.

Can anyone tell me about the arpeggios starting at 13:27 - in other recordings of the same piece the violinists play 'A' which seems to be what Vivaldi wrote, but this player plays 'A flat' instead, which is what Bach replaced the A with when he transcribed the concerto for organ (BWV 594). Does anyone know if there is precedent - maybe a new autograph by Vivaldi discovered in recent years - for playing the A flat or did the violinist just choose Bach's modifications because it sounded better? It must be much harder to play...
VIVALDI is the master of Bach ... Bach copied it in the organ range to facilitate your work on the organ, as it is original for virtuoso violin!
Thanks for your helpful comment. I listened to the 3rd movement several times admiring Carmingnola's wizardry with the bow and started to feel that it would sound great on an organ. I then read your comment and listened to 2 interpretations of BWV594 which I enjoyed greatly.

The performance is very good...but this is truly bad music, just a succession of trite harmonic progressions. Vivaldi is a completely overrated composer.
And that's why he's still played. He had to produce a lot so there are works of minor importance, but overall he was one of the most renownend composers of his time. Bach acknowledged that by copying his work.
