It’s closer to what rock went through in 2014 when Tumblr started to die out. We still had a ton of rock albums within the top 10 on the Billboard 200 (aka the all-genre albums chart) from 2008-2012 but that started to decline around 2013 or so. I would dare to say the lack of interest and quality is in music in general. Sampha released what is in my opinion one of the best albums of 2023, and it did not even enter the billboard 200. Mind you, this is Sampha, who has worked with Drake and Kendrick, and at this point is not underground per se. Music has become monopolized to the point where record labels will throw promo money on mega established artists, like Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift, while not giving it to artists that bring a fresher approach to music. When looking at who's to blame for the lack of quality and interest, we have to point at both the consumer and the industry. Look at the trending page right now, you will see nothing but clowns with no musical talent but good production team. It's been awhile since I immediately got grabbed by a song thats not from an artist that I already like.
Idk I disagree with his view tbh I don't think kendrick and travis did great numbers on their tour bc of their artistry from their last albums. I think them haven't been on tour for 4 5 years played a huge role in that and I feel like they shouldn't even be used as examples of how hip hop isn't dying bc those guys are OGs at this point they already have their solidified fanbase. Artists bringing new sounds would definitely help hip hop in bringing attention to the genre, but at the same time a lot of new artists nowadays that catch a buzz 9/10 its through TikTok and I feel like with multiple artists having their 5 mins of fame from catching a TikTok buzz don't even get a chance to truly develop their artistry bc the kids are already on to the next. Only a very few have actually been able to maintain their buzz like Ice Spice, but artist like Teezo who actually have their own unique sound who's collaborated with multiple mainstream Artist are still struggling to catch a hit. Therefore, with TikTok and streaming idk if hip hop can ever actually get back to where it was bc at the end of the day its kids and teens that really keep the genre up there.
He's garbage. He resorts to putting black magic in his music to get you simps hooked. If you have even an ounce of spiritual discernment, you can feel it the second his shit plays. I know what I'm talking about, because I used to be around a rapper who did all of this 10 years before. Carti is not original whatsoever.
I really think Tyler the Creator is one of the most impressive artists to come out of rap/hiphop in the past decade, even though I hated (and it seems he does too) his older work before Flower Boy. Still, he has the gift, but has definitely decided to reduce his connection to the genre. This isn’t a bad thing as he clearly has a desire to explore different avenues, BUT I think if he put out a rap banger (not saying he has to), I think it would really breathe some fresh air into a genre that needs it. He is one of the few I think has the composing, producing, writing and performance ability to offer something new. Also, we need to start supporting rappers who aren’t in the mainstream. Little Simz is brilliant. Give artists like her a chance to gain some recognition in the genre outside of those in the know.
The problem with rap is the artists that are currently quality and popular are the ones from the past generations. All these good rappers releasing music and also popular are all in their 30s or more. Travis, Kanye, Drake, Kendrick, Savage, JID (he’s 33 believe it or not), Cole, etc. Young and talented artists that were supposed to be next up are falling off or got lost in the money. Roddy Rich, DaBaby, Lil Baby, Polo G, even Don Toliver. These guys were supposed to be the next Drake, the next DMX, the next Travis Scott, etc. Pop Smoke was supposed to be the next 50 Cent, but he passed away. These artists that should be blowing up right now aren’t. There’s only a few artists that are under 30 who are in that superstar category like Carti, Uzi and Yachty, who are experimenting with their sound a lot recently. But young stars? There’s Yeat maybe, Baby Keem and maybe Ken Carson. Those are pretty much the only 3 notable artists that come to mind. Compared to Drake, Kendrick, Kanye and Cole from the late 2000s-2010s, that’s an unbelievably mid group of guys. Drake, Kendrick, Cole and Kanye won’t be making as much music in the next 7 years, if at all. There needs to be a couple young quality artists with mainstream potential that come up this year. Someone needs to have a comeback, maybe Lil Baby’s next album will be amazing, but I really doubt it.
The thing is rap hasn't always been dominant check the stats pop most years has been more dominant so if rap not number one genre doesn't mean is doing bad 2023 was ass tho
People say the exact same shit about rap and hip hop every single year. Thats the previous year was the worst ever, and that its all dying, and that the new year is about to be the next big shit lmao
notice how all the top top popping artists always experiment with their sound or the beats etc. If carti made something similar to WLR again i’d personally love it but it wouldn’t have the worlds attention as much cus he’s already done something similar, it’s him changing his sounds completely or using the deep voice that keeps people intrigued
This Is Why I Respect Travis, J.I.D., Tyler, Carti, Uzi, Keem, Amine, JPEGMAFIA, RTJ, And Denzel So Freaking Much Each Different Rappers Always Giving Us The New Experimental Sounds Of Music This Is The Main Reason Why Carti And Uzi Haven't Fell Off After 7 Long Years Because They Aren't Generic And Trash Like The 90% Majority Of The Rappers In Mainstream Hip-Hop
Only thing Kanye is moving forward is antisemitism and far-right ideology in hip-hop, which essentially, is going to be the death of real hip-hop. Plus his music has been trash for quite some time now. Only people who would argue this are racists and bigots who are ecstatic to have a Black man on their side so they can say "see, if he agrees with us, how can we possibly be racists and bigots?", all the while they know in their hearts that his recent output is mid at best, hot garbage at worst. Y'all know who you are.

And it’s not as much of night and day thing with the 80’s 90’s 00’s until 2007 for real Rap. But it’s just that hip hop was for struggle and the struggling, now this new stuff doesn’t even uplift the poor anymore just flex’s on us and keep us out until they Need some validation from the streets. HIP HOP is for the streets, the ghetto streets to be specific. Just wanted to leave that there. Because hip hop was always unground. And this mainstream is for the pop stars no shade
albums from carti, ye, ski mask, juice wrld, baby keem and yeat. I don’t see how it can be a bad year. I’m not saying all these projects will be 10/10 but i expect to like a few songs atleast of them all. That being said i didn’t like yeats last project but after a few good singles i predict he’ll bounce back
J. Cole, Drake and Kendrick are still the big 3. Credit is due as no one has ever maintained that level of relevance for that long in rap history, however, without ANY next superstar to take the mantle, hiphop is going to keep struggling. Especially with Kendrick taking another 5 year break, and Drake continuously releasing poor quality music. Who is next up? As in who is could potentially take the mantle from Drake as The Guy? Absolutely no one at the moment. Its really sad how the quality of rap has dropped

Carry what? Drake been carrying since 09’
@@fas0288 last good album was scorpion bruh
Artists to keep an eye on could be dc the don, ken carson (who proved his talents this year with agc), destroy lonely and fijimacintosh.
Glazing
all of these artists are ass bro what

suero is fire too , he has a song called “outta time” that goes crazy but he’s slept on
2024 bout to be crazy for hiphop some artist for every genre we got ye Ariana, carti frank and a buncha other guys
I'm a big fan of Mike and Earl and Curren$y, Mavi, redveil etc but them Michigan boys is my go to.
Is hip-hop doing good?
yes
I really think Tyler the Creator is one of the most impressive artists to come out of rap/hiphop in the past decade, even though I hated (and it seems he does too) his older work before Flower Boy. Still, he has the gift, but has definitely decided to reduce his connection to the genre. This isn’t a bad thing as he clearly has a desire to explore different avenues, BUT
I think if he put out a rap banger (not saying he has to), I think it would really breathe some fresh air into a genre that needs it.
Rap just like the NBA , more talented individuals rather than 3-4 goats
Ur smart asf bro
The thing is rap hasn't always been dominant check the stats pop most years has been more dominant so if rap not number one genre doesn't mean is doing bad 2023 was ass tho
For me it’s the beats mayne, trap beats especially…they all sound so similar and generic nowadays 😭
2:08 Whos this?
Bro really did not mention Yeat wtf
Honestly I have no complaints. Rap music is getting darker and dystopian in these weird times
🌑🦾
That’s what the population likes to hear
I'm bring hip hop Back word to Muthas Thank me later ,🗽💯
Ice spice IS NOT HIPHOP
People say the exact same shit about rap and hip hop every single year. Thats the previous year was the worst ever, and that its all dying, and that the new year is about to be the next big shit lmao
“Hip Hop is dead” - Nas
The OGs wont let it die but the new generation is trying their best
I may be the only one who thinks it but Utopia is complete trash.
Yea u only think that
@@tuneskl good, keep it that way idc lol
@@tuneskl wannabe Yeezus ass album
@@LiquidDreamz93 why u pressed 😭 lwk utopia alr better than yeezus
@@tuneskl idrc you keep responding lol go listen to that trash and be done with it then
notice how all the top top popping artists always experiment with their sound or the beats etc.
Utopia is basically Yeezus so again Kanye is moving hip hop forward
Only thing Kanye is moving forward is antisemitism and far-right ideology in hip-hop, which essentially, is going to be the death of real hip-hop. Plus his music has been trash for quite some time now. Only people who would argue this are racists and bigots who are ecstatic to have a Black man on their side so they can say "see, if he agrees with us, how can we possibly be racists and bigots?", all the while they know in their hearts that his recent output is mid at best, hot garbage at worst. Y'all know who you are.
I hope we don't get another album from Sexyy Red this year
Not if I can help it
Y'all forgetting abt the deathrow records owner the only Snoop dog duo double g ..
Old school hip hop the best 🔥
Griselda Records is bringing in good music
please pronounce it "janra" gang, I barely finished the video, then again u do u
This video is horrible. It mentioned Kendrick, whose album flopped. And didn’t mention Cole the hottest rapper in the game, and Drake the biggest greatest rapper of modern times?
The bias and horrible journalism is apparent because your not supposed to make it biased
Mr. Morale didn't flop.
TLDR: no rap is fine. The title is clickbait
This’ll be an interesting year for trap music
Hip-POP
Hip-ROCK
Hip-NB
Is a branch from hip hop I do agree. But this new music is not HIP-HOP I was born in 94.
Sexy Redd and Ice Spice are the reason Hip Hop sucks rn
bro woke up and chose to speak facts 😭. hiphop is just shedding the deadweight rn
albums from carti, ye, ski mask, juice wrld, baby keem and yeat. I don’t see how it can be a bad year. I’m not saying all these projects will be 10/10 but i expect to like a few songs atleast of them all. That being said i didn’t like yeats last project but after a few good singles i predict he’ll bounce back
Not only is hiphop dead so is society,it can only get worse
The cope in this video is insane 😂😂😂
What crack are you smoking that you think hip hop might enter it's"most special chapter yet LMAO
Tezzy, uzi, carti , Travis is not hip hop
