I'm truly happy for Killer Mike to win three Grammys. He's a legend and put out a great project last year and received great reviews from it. Me too, I thought Travis would win "Album Of The Year" with Utopia because this project truly exceeded our expectations and represents for me a generational opus of this decade. Now, I don't agree with the fact he was robbed in the "Album Of The Year" because as I said, "Michael" is an excellent album from the lyrics to the beats. For me, it checks everything it requires in a hip-hop album. In my opinion, we should be fair play and give Mike his flowers. Utopia is still an incredible project but "Michael" was really pushed by the hip-hop community. So even though I usually don't care about the Grammys, I stand with Killer Mike for the culture and also for his great album.
I think Killer Mike deserved this win. I went back to his album way more than Utopia. It’s lyrical, it’s sonically pleasing, it features a Sac rapper (I’m from sac), and Mike is a pillar of the black community. He’s always advocated for the black community through his music so this win for him was well deserved
seeing the vast majority of ppl saying ‘Travis got robbed’ immeadiately after the award got announced honestly frustrated me. Michael is a phenomenal album and I’m not gonna say it’s better than utopia but I think ppl should give both a listen before deciding
Ye and Em are in a different phase of their careers. Neither are trying to make a blockbuster album and take a Grammy. I believe artists like Travis, Baby Keem and JID are in their prime and really changing the music landscape. Just my opinion tho...
Utopia is not head and shoulders above Michael. I wouldn’t say he deserves the awards, it’s completely fair the album with the better rapping and on best rap album.
I think Michael deserves this win though🎉. I really liked scientists and engineers and shed tears. They were my favorite on his album. I remember him rapping with Andre 3000 and most recently (like a couple of years ago) in nobody speak. He’s really a great lyricist❤ I do like Travis Scott no doubt, however, Michael has been around for such a LONG time💕
I think that rappers, rnb artist, and other black artist and producers need to just make their own award show on the level of the Grammy's. Not only are they never going to be considered the best performers, but they are left to fight over one category of awards because they will never be considered for anything outside of "Rapper" or "Melodic Rap". I loved IGOR, but Tyler was right when he said that its idiotic to consider it a rap album. Now you have a younger audience and old heads fighting over if Killer Mike is even relevent anymore or if Travis Scott is even a "real rapper" or a "mumble rapper" and if he represents rap at all. We need to be able to divide the categories up in a satisfying way that makes sense to us.
As many people have, I stopped taking the Grammys seriously after The Heist won over GKMC, but when 1989 won Album of the Year over TPAB, I straight up loss hope. 😂🤣
tbh travis losing sucks to me but what sucks even more is that despite metro making a phenominal album and producing an entire movies soundtrack he still lost best producer to a taylor swift producer which i find wayyyyy worse
The only rappers today who can win a Grammy for album of the year are rappers with extreme versatility and a literally revolutionary artistic depth that goes beyond rap by strongly touching audiences and experts beyond other musical genres like Kendrick, Kanye or even Rocky which I find a little underrated. Travis Scott is good but his album Utopia lacks lyrical and thematic depth, it doesn't really reach the extent of the Utopian meaning even if there are beautiful sounds in this record, there are sounds like K Pop which have nothing to do in this album but who nevertheless put it which makes it more less authentic. Killer Mike's victory is fine and not as scandalous as Cardi b's.
Sadly that is likely true. To nominate him is one thing, they just can’t not nominate an album with that kind of magnitude, that would make the Grammys look even worse than they already do. Awarding him is another. That would cause an outrage among not just music fans, but for normal people too that like to debate over certain things. The headlines would say something like “Astrofest demonic murderer Travis Scott’s Grammy win causes major outrage”. Sadly it is a stigma he will have to live with for at least a good few years until some other person does something even worse and people can ride that wave.
Killer Mike fully deserved the grammy. In fact, he should have won more. Listen to his album before hating. He’s been doing this shit for decades with almost no recognition from the mainstream and now he’s got his spotlight just to be the target of online hate. Shit ain’t fair.
it's not '85 and it's disrespectful to the artists that try so hard to revolutionize music. old shih is good in the old days but this isn't the old days and you not bumping killer mike's album in public.
I wish you were as right as you are passionate. 1) old shit belongs in the old days is a false premise not worth exploring, everything about that statement doesn’t make sense, music is either timeless or it isn’t 2) “you wouldn’t bump Killer Mike’s album in public” is false, because I have, I do and I still will. If you can’t hear music and see the talent or quality in content and arrangement, then you are operating from bias. Both albums are dope, don’t discount quality trying to prove a point.
I’m kind of torn tbh. On one hand, I’m happy for Mike and think that he genuinely deserved the win because, from what I’ve heard, Michael is a really album. But on the other hand, I can’t help but feel like Travis genuinely deserved the win this time. Utopia was easily the most talked about and hyped up rap album that came out this year with the years long speculation leading up to its release and the Circus Maximus tour which has been going crazy for a few months now.
This dude just made an almost 10 minute Travis Scott propaganda video glazing Travis Scott because he didn't win Best Rap Album at the Grammys. First of all, Killer Mike been putting out great music since he first came into Hip Hop back in 2000. Second, the award is called BEST RAP ALBUM. I don't consider Travis Scott a rapper let alone Hip Hop. I always thought Travis Scott was the most overrated "rapper" of all time and I'm sticking by that statement. Also, the Astroworld incident put a well deserved black eye on him. He's lucky to even still have a career after that. Utopia was a mid album, and don't ever compare it to The Eminem Show and Graduation.
Dont get me wrong. I respect the fuck out of Killer Mike and his album. He does deserve it, but travis should have won. His album had such a huge impact on the year.
I loved Killer Mike's album, well deserved. However I would've given it to Travis Scott, he worked hard on that album. I also think if Travis won, the Astroworld incident would peak its head again getting backlash from the close ones of the victims. The internet is fickle. It's just a theory

2 things, 1 while Astroworld, Victory Lap, Daytona and Swimming definitely deserved the grammy over Invasion of Privacy I've never actually understood why that album is so maligned it's just an album full of well written and well performed club tracks and some more personal stuff as well, it's not a bad album at all just nowhere near the level of the other 4 in the category. 2 Killer Mike deserved that award and I don't care what anyone says, he has worked tirelessly for so long in the genre and has recieved support from so many rap legends throughout the years on top of releasing consistently amazing projects, this award was long overdue and seeing him get so excited over winning was the cherry on top. Utopia also wasn't even close to Michael imo(obviously it was still a good album but it is far from Travis' best both production and performance wise)
The Comparison between Eminem’s / Kanye’s albums and Travis albums is pretty accurate in my opinion. It’s game changing albums and the Grammies decide to take a shit on em
First and foremost, fuck the grammy's. Imho though, as great of an album as Utopia is, the rapping itself on it isn't all that. I feel Mike deserves this one for this category.
And then say dumb shit like I listen to hip hop and I don't know who he is. Yeah you don't know the guy who had Andre finally do something in hip hop for decades other than some weird flute shit. Mike killed the game and for once the Grammy's got it right and ppl actually mad about it 😂
Invasion of Privacy sounded like an unfinished mixtape and she got up there and said she rushed to finish it in time. Definitely a slight. I think the album of the year thing is also based on the push for femininity. Not a lot of male artists have been nominated for big awards at any awards show lately
They probably knew Killer Mike was going to get arrested and arranged for it to happen = clicks They knew we would've got mad about them sleeping on travis = clicks It's just a circle jerk though isn't it, do any of us even watch it?
This same thing just happened with the giving of African music performance by turning Nigerian acts against each other while giving the award to a South African who has many ancestors.
I really never understand the Travis hype, I don’t find utopia to be anything that hasn’t been done before or is even that personal to him. He just sounds like diet Kanye, cudi and Frank ocean to me. None of this is pushing the culture in a way that Michael or even Tyler the creator do
Hot take: While I agree that Hip-hop has been unrepresented at the Grammy's, who cares about getting one? Don't get me wrong, it's incredible to get one, but who needs a Grammy to present the value of your music, I'd rather sell out an arena than get a trophy. Getting a Grammy is low-key valueless in the long run.
Travis should've won but Killer Mike was a good choice, although travis only being up for best rap album and not AOTY or any other categories within rap was disrespectful asf and to have perform too is crazy
Imo Hero’s and villains should have won because it was a 2022 song but it was too late in 2022 for it to be nominated in the 2023 Grammys so it got nominated in this years Grammys but no ones talking about it. It was personally my favorite album
I genuinely enjoy Hip Hop music. That said, i stopped paying attention in 2014. Macklemore, won over 4 other albums all by prominent and well established artists. All of which were better bodies of work. I understood at that moment that there was a fundamental misunderstanding with what Hip Hop music is as a whole to the academy at the grammys. The awards a joke.
I love utopia but Micheal was honestly a better album. Of course music is subjective, but travis didn't get robbed. Cardi B winning was horrible though. Daytona should've won that year hands down, or at least swimming or astroworld. Thats the biggest snub in grammy history, except maybe kendrick getting robbed for gkmc in 2012, or kendrick losing to taylor swift after dropping what is widely considered the best album of all time for any genre...
2018: Travis was robbed 2023: Travis was NOT robbed as both Mike and Metro Boomin had better albums than him, so as much as everyone want him to win a Grammy, he did not deserve to best rap album this year
It really pisses me off about how little they respect Hip-hop and almost all black artists. It's just outrageous and needs some addressing; how can people even watch the Grammys? The Weeknd got zero nominations after he dropped After Hours, Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly lost to Taylor Swift's 1986 in Album of the Year when TPAB is the clear winner (and a far better album, no hate to Taylor Swift or her album but I'm just speaking by artistic vision and the meaning of the album,) Jay-Z said in the Grammys 2 days ago that DMX didn't even get nominated for Rap Album of the Year after releasing two successful albums and that's just shocking, Eminem lost many times in Album of the Year and this right here really irritates me, Cardi B winning against Travis Scott in Rap Album of the Year, Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar losing to Harry Styles in Album of the Year, SZA losing to Taylor Swift in Album of the Year (Again, no hate towards Taylor Swift but come on, SOS is a better album than Midnights. And I know Lana Del Ray is not a black artist or anything like that but she got robbed too,) and of course good kid, m.a.ad city loosing to The Heist. These are examples of why no one respects the Grammys anymore, how can this even happen? To be honest with you the Grammys is just a popular contest at this point. How can an artist feel rewarded or good about winning the Grammys when it's clear that it's not really rewarding? The 66th Grammys would probably be the first and last time watching the Grammys....
I almost forgot but The Miseducation of Lauryn and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below are the only two "Rap" albums that won Album of the Year but that's funny to me because it's very clear that both albums are not really Rap albums. There's many other things that I forgot to address but I think I got my point across.
Obviously Travis should have atleast 2 grammy's by now BUT, every time he works harder to make a better and better album each grammy nomination, the music can only get better from here. Utopia was an incredible album and I think its 2nd to rodeo, I wonder whats next
Everyone is talking about travis being robbed twice, no rap post can go without a few people commenting on travis losing to someone weve never heard of until he won an award, no hip hop album was nominated for album of the year. Now theyre really gonna face a downfall

Was he really snubbed in 2018? I agree that Cardi B was probably the worst option to win, but I still wouldn’t put Astroworld as 2018’s best rap album. Swimming, Daytona, Kids See Ghosts, Drogas Wave, Ta13oo, and Some Rap Songs were just as good if not better than Astroworld.
@@boost3188 2019 as in the time of the award ceremony. Many expected Travis to win by the nominations because while the album was great, it also held great accolades. It’s a shame to say, but albums need to do numbers and be massively popular to be a shoe-in to win the award. Astroworld was great and arguably most accolades than any other record in that category so it made sense for it to win. I know there’s more better albums than Astroworld, some were even nominated.

Travis Scott fans are delusional. I haven't seen a single one that doesn't have a blow up Travis Scott doll they sleep with every night.

Utopia is not head and shoulders above Michael. I wouldn’t say he deserves the awards, it’s completely fair the album with the better rapping and on best rap album.
I'll never forgive the grammys when they gave the awards to Macklemore & Cardi B
I think Michael deserves this win though🎉. I really liked scientists and engineers and shed tears.
They were my favorite on his album. I remember him rapping with Andre 3000 and most recently (like a couple of years ago) in nobody speak. He’s really a great lyricist❤
I do like Travis Scott no doubt, however, Michael has been around for such a LONG time💕
I think that rappers, rnb artist, and other black artist and producers need to just make their own award show on the level of the Grammy's.
We need to be able to divide the categories up in a satisfying way that makes sense to us.

tbh travis losing sucks to me but what sucks even more is that despite metro making a phenominal album and producing an entire movies soundtrack he still lost best producer to a taylor swift producer which i find wayyyyy worse
Great great video 🔥🔥
Travis isn't ever going to get a Grammy because of the Astroworld incident
So why nominate him
I think it was his response to the incident that caused people to dislike him.
Probably true, but it should be because he's a subpar rapper and his music is ass
Sadly it is a stigma he will have to live with for at least a good few years until some other person does something even worse and people can ride that wave.

it's not '85 and it's disrespectful to the artists that try so hard to revolutionize music. old shih is good in the old days but this isn't the old days and you not bumping killer mike's album in public.
Killer Mike was actually a hell of an album and should have won it just didnt get good marketing
travis isn't on ye or eminem level, but kendrick and tyler are, which is why they win grammy's
That Macklemore snub is insane.
