Vinyl floors are the bane of my existence. I try to fit them before fitting kitchens at work but sometimes I have to do it after and I cut a template which is really time consuming, but really wish I had the time to learn to cut them in situ like yourself. Really well done, looks great!
Glad to see you back in the van. The look of that vinyl is fantastic...& easy cleaning for little feet & paws:) it may be heavy, but it has to weigh less than tongue & groove. Hope you can get it sorted enough to have a few grand family adventures this summer.
We're finally ahead of you ;-) Cutting the flooring around those seat brackets was a real pain for us. We've got them sitting on top of the ply floor rather than flush and while we were able to loosen three of them, the fourth bolts through above the fuel tank and dropping that wasn't something I wanted to do so it's a bit of a messy job cutting and forcing it under.
Ahh, yes much easier to sit the brackets down onto flooring. But me being me had to do things the unconventional way! We don't plan of having the third seat in as much so was keen to keep flat floor.
hi, great video, we're just about to replace the carpet in our 30 year old ducato with vinyl tiles do this video is a great help. Is it just normal pva you use to seal the wood?
Really loving the van conversion playlist! The pace and detail is perfect and each video is spot on, very educational! Was wondering if you could do a video on an "eBay van buying guide"? You did touch on the subject on a previous video (and got yours for a good price), but was wondering if you can shed more light on what to look out for, for people who are a less confident on the subject. Many thanks! Dan.
Not sure I am knowledgable enough when it comes to the ins and outs of van buying apart from what i have already mentioned. That said, I am still loving this model of van over anything else i have seen, the extra width, payload and lack of rust is a major plus point. Apart from that it's just the usual service history, bodywork, etc. This van had 150k on it but nearly all motorway miles, I would rather have that over a 75k ex builders or window fitting van any day.
Do you want to make wooden or metal inserts to mask the chair sockets? Perhaps with a ring handle for easy removal and clad with vinyl covers to match the flooring?
sorry to be so offtopic but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost the password. I love any tricks you can give me.
@Omari Khari thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Just starting my van and wondering if you knew a way I could get used parts to help on build..I am disabled and spent most of my extra money to buy van..got some reflextics and that was 100$ just for a little bit..thx and I enjoy watching your videos
First, I love the videos and your thoughtfulness and the time you take to attention to detail. It makes all the difference in the world. I ready to retire and considering living the van life for a couple of years. So Arizona will be my home base. So what are your thoughts about air conditioning. Also with the conversion have total up the VOC and other possible airborne commitments? You are Awesome!
I wonder if I'm using a flood coat of adhesive I can get away without the spar urethane... The adhesive I already have, and the spar would be an extra cost.
Hi Tim, 2 years on have you had any trouble with the flooring? Thinking of using the same product in my build and can't find the adhesive free version in the colour I nees
If you were really fussy, you could mask around the holes for the rails and spray enamel them with a similar colour to the floor, as well as brown silicon the edges, just to take your eyes away from them.
I like that idea... although it’s only really the single seat that will be left out so might just make some removable plugs with the flooring offcuts. I’ll have another look tomorrow.
3D printer should be your friend ;) Just design some sort of removable plug/lid & that'd do. Order a couple from some online 3D printing service (if you don't have direct access to the printer). Cheers!
Thats a great looking floor! Did you consider fitting it a few cm up the wall, like in a wetroom? And will the plywood expand with higher moisture/temps? Might bubble the floor.
Plywood should be dimensionally stable enough to not cause issues but time will tell. Did think about taking it up the walls but most is within the back of cabinets so not really needed, plus nothing is square so would have been quite fiddly around the pillars and doors.
The Restoration Couple right. I'm toying with the idea of gluing and screwing all the structural batons for the furniture/cabinets straight to the sub floor, and then laying the mat down. Alot More fiddly but they would be so much more secure and wouldn't be subject to as much stress when the van sways back and forth on those bumpy French country roads! Plan to lay the mat with not glue, place batons and then use them as a template for cutting out. Then glue floor down
Great video! So my only reservation, and I'm not sure you'll have experienced this yet, but does the vinyl grow when it gets hot? Our Sprinter OEM vinyl floor expands and ripples badly when the sun shines on it and I'm worried that when I come to install my own vinyl flooring that it might do the same thing. Maybe gluing it down would help?
Hi quick question in a previous video you mentioned about a bung in the sill to check on moisture could i use this to run a vent tube from inside the van? To save drilling through the floor. Awsome videos keep it up
I don't see why not, If I had though of that I might have done the same! Might only be large enough for a battery vent or simialr ratehr than a gas drop out type vent.
A new garage door, now that's just pure luxury! I'll let you know when I have rebuilt it's walls and roof first. Just hope our old door last that long! :-)
Well I have been out and about in it and I can get it when I need it but still need to take a look at lubricating the cables. I'll save that for a rainy day!
I love watching these videos honestly I do. But why do people have to talk 10 minutes about why it's the best thing to do in the long run? I want to see installing
It would be really nice if i didn't have to keep turning the volume down for the music and then back up to be able to hear your voice, please balance the audio >.

one of the best conversion's I've seen. Thoughtful and well planned. We are in the planning stage, so many idea's are getting stolen.
I'm loving this van conversion series. Great stuff mate! Also, brilliant reading by your daughter!
Good job. Love it when your girls "help" and "supervise". Lovely picture of the beach, by the way. 👍
Van is looking good, your daughter is great, lovely age- make the most of it as the years fly by before you know it!

Good job your a hard working guy
Excellent video! We are so enjoying all of your videos! We appreciate your insight into van conversion. You have helped us out a lot. Thanks so much!
We're about to do the same with our van! Fun thing is our vinyl has almost the same wooden pattern as yours :D. Very nice video, thanks!
Really enjoying your van conversion and so lovely the famly are involved.. Good luck
Great job!
Floor looks great, I bet you can't wait to build the units.
We're finally ahead of you ;-)

I think we'll try to cut the underside of a mat to hold it in place on top of the spare seat brackets when we don't have it fitted.
great work, good attention to detail and excellent presentation skills too.

Superb work, as always Tim!
Well done!!
when the chairs are out, velcro a rug over the gaps.
Hello and thank you for the video and helpful info! It's been a few years now, are you happy with the performance of your vinyl flooring? Walls?
Hi mate, is that the "mountain oak" one of altro safety flooring ? Great install video 👏
Finally some more van!

Great job, perfect as usual. Wish I was half as neat. 👍🏼
The look to camera at 14.00 made me chuckle, reminded me of Laurel and Hardy. Eden definitely needs her own channel.

Wish it was this easy in my minivan 😂
Wish the flooring was linked somewhere! Or am i missing it?
Great job! It's amazing what a nice floor can do. =)

@Ernest Casey Instablaster :)
@Omari Khari thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.

@Omari Khari it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out :D
@Ernest Casey You are welcome xD

Nice job looks great :)
Sorry if I missed it in the other comments, but how did this tape method work with the vinyl flooring?
Fine, especially with commercial vinyl like this. Not budged at all and I’ve had pallets and oak beams in it many times!
@@TheRestorationCouple thanks for getting back! Appreciate it!

Where did you get the rear seats and what did you use to mount them to the floor? Looking to add a single rear seat. Thanks!
Great video! whats the back ground music playing 02:38 onwards?
Brilliant help, do you have a link to the tape you used on the floor
Great! How much did flooring cost please?
Thats a great looking floor! Did you consider fitting it a few cm up the wall, like in a wetroom? And will the plywood expand with higher moisture/temps? Might bubble the floor.
Tim mentioned that at the the very end of vid ;)
Plywood should be dimensionally stable enough to not cause issues but time will tell. Did think about taking it up the walls but most is within the back of cabinets so not really needed, plus nothing is square so would have been quite fiddly around the pillars and doors.

Where we have a thinner domestic vinyl in the house it does slightly but the Altro stuff is much more rigid so hopefully not.
Where did you buy the heavyweight vinyl? Is there a specific thickness to go for?
Altro. Bought online.
Yes i was thinking for my battery vent in my work van, so when you need a new garage door ;) ill show you.
Awsome channel mate
A new garage door, now that's just pure luxury! I'll let you know when I have rebuilt it's walls and roof first. Just hope our old door last that long! :-)
Did you manage to sort the gear issue ?
Better but still need to have a proper look at the cables/linkage. At least it is back on the road again! :-)
Good video but I would have liked to see how you cut round the arches more clearly as it is that area I always struggle with
Yeah how’s your reverse gear? 😫 The floor looks great and glad you used double sided tape and a neat job 👍
Well I have been out and about in it and I can get it when I need it but still need to take a look at lubricating the cables. I'll save that for a rainy day!
Did you get reverse gear sorted?
A good enough fix for now but need to sort properly when I get a chance to take cables off.
Clicked so fast I hurt my finger! 😜
Am I being stupid but what is 'SBR'?
Just a latex adhesive. Like a more waterproof pva which is used for masonry or sealing walls, etc.
I love watching these videos honestly I do.
But why do people have to talk 10 minutes about why it's the best thing to do in the long run?
I want to see installing
Just change the speed of the youtube playback if you only want to watch someone stick some flooring down really quickly. :-)
It would be really nice if i didn't have to keep turning the volume down for the music and then back up to be able to hear your voice, please balance the audio >.
What you didn’t putty the screw holes haha just bustin .. lol
This is what happend to grant Mitchell
Haha, I have had a few similar comments but you are the first Mitchell suggestion. :-) Not sure I have the accent though!
The Restoration Couple you should have got Phil to help you, would have taken a few hours.
