      I think SEVR makes the best mechanical on the market. To me, being able to practice with the EXACT arrow/broadhead combination you are going to hunt with without dulling the blades is a huge plus. I shot a buck last Saturday (MLD late season permit for you legal beagles) and wow, the entry and exit holes were awesome. The arrow smacked into the rock behind the deer and the head wasn't damaged a bit!

      Thanks Jeff. The Sevr 1.5 and 1.7 penetrate way more effectively than the Sevr 2.1 due to the blade angle and the blade length. And the 1.5 in 125 gr is more durable than most fixed blades I've tested.

    Them sevrs are no joke. Josh bowmar did a test with the sevr 1.5 on a dead Cape buffalo it went threw hide it’s rib bone lungs and got way more then enough penetration to kill it, the Tip of the broadhead and the blades were in perfect condition after they examined it after the shot. • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, I like both and have killed with both...and they're very different. If I were comparing the Sevr 2.1 to the Killzone, I would take the Sevr 2.1; it's stronger and penetrates slightly better, and the blades lock open more effectively and also swing around a bone to stay on course. But for a larger animal like Elk or Moose, or larger deer, I would take the Sevr 1.5 over the Killzone because it penetrates way more effectively and is also way way more durable. I have not tested any mechanical even close to being as tough as the Sevr 1.5, in 125 gr.

Anyway deep six broadhead choice is minimal so I think I did ok based not your testing. I’m going antelope hunting next weekend and those will be fine for that. I almost bought some of the 2.1s for antelope and deer but I went with the 1.5s because the thing I want to harvest the most is an elk! September 16 can’t come soon enough. I’m shooting a bear approach hc. It’s spitting my 307 grain arrows + 100 grain broadhead out at 288 FPS for around 74 kinetic energy. Your an experienced bow hunter. Is this a good choice? I’m was pretty set on the ramcat or qad exodus cause I wanted a fixed blade for elk but a guy at the bow shop was telling me about the sevrs and then I saw you vid. That's a good question. I can't remember the penetration of the 1.5, but I can say for sure that the Exodus penetrated deeper, in both gel and cardboard. The Exodus is one of the best penetrating heads made...and one of the most durable. The 1.5 is the most durable mech on the market--far more durable than any other mech I've tested and more durable than many fixed blades...but the Exodus is much more durable than the 1.5.

    If you get a chance, could you do a test of the Helix single bevel fixed broadhead? Strickland Archery.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the suggestion, Paul. I used to shoot the Helix. It's a decent head. But honestly, there are much better single bevels available. First, it's a component head, so it's no where near as durable as a single piece machined head. Second, at most weights, it uses an aluminum ferrule. That's not the best for the torsional force generated by a single bevel. Third, the longer tip that flares at the bottom is okay for flight, but it limits the ability to generate maximum torsional force. The quicker the head gets wider, the more torque it will generate. Such a thin tip can get stuck in bone. The Bishop Dicing Drill used that same design till they figured this out, and then cut the tip off with the Scientific Method. Fourth, at most weights, it is not thick enough to generate maximum torsional force. So while it will get the job done most of the time and it does fly well, there are simply better single bevel designs. The Bishop is way superior, as is the Cutthroat, just to name a couple.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, you're correct in some respects. Shot placement is the most important issue, not doubt. But clearly you don't hunt with a field point because you want a more effective way to kill. Broadheads do just that, much more effectively than field points. We all want to select a head that gives us the BEST chance at harvesting the animal in a quick and ethical manner. While we can all joke that deer don't wear steel plating, an impact on a heavy bone or joint, especially at an angle, can be much more destructive to a broadhead than a .22 gauge steel plate or 1/2" MDF. So that being said, if you can choose between a head that can hold up to those mediums and a head that cannot, all other things equal, why would you choose the head that cannot? That's the point of these tests, to provide comparative data to help us all select the best broadheads we can afford for our hunting purposes. If you're happy with the Swhacker, then great; they can certainly get the job done. But just be assured from tests like this one, there are other heads on the market that can penetrate more deeply, hold their edge more effectively, and withstand more damage...and cost less...than Swhackers.

    Are these better then original ones? 2.0 i believe?

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, they are much tougher and penetrate much more deeply--but have a smaller cut size. So it depends on what you're hunting. For smaller deer and hogs and turkey, the 2.1 is perfect; for larger deer and elk and so forth, the 1.5 is perfect.

    Why would anyone use an over the top mechanical?

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      The biggest advantage is the small entry, which then keeps the blades sharper for internal cutting. But if you don't get a pass thru, you've only got one small hole.

      I would with the 1.5; it's a great elk head, provided you're generating good momentum with your bow and arrow set up. It's the only mech I'd use on elk.

    Hey sir I've got a question for you and I would really like to see and get your point of view on it I see all these broadheads mechanical heads that you are reviewing and trying out how come you've never tried the innerloc Cartage or the innerloc shapeshifter I think those are really too nice broadheads that a lot of people don't know anything about I don't know if it's because they're not advertised as well but I know I use the shapeshifter last year and they fall like a field tip and it did an excellent job I would really like to see a review on these and see what you think Don

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Don. I've been wanting to test that head as well. The one thing that has held me back, besides the cost of buying more heads, is that it is only 1.25" in its cut. For a mechanical, that is one of the smallest I've seen. If I am using a mech, it's to get a large cut in a small package so it flies well. I can shoot a number of 1.25" fixed blades if I only want that size of a cut. But still, the head is intriguing.

    • @donwilson350
      @donwilson350 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but I thought your videos were all about reviewing broadheads that's why I was suggesting the shapeshifter and with a 1 and 1/4 cut that made one heck of a hole in that nine point that I shot last year it's all about shot placement if you put it in the right spot they don't go very far Don

    What would be the most durable 1.5 or 1.75 cut mechanical you have tested?

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both of the Sevrs did very well in my test; both were very durable. I prefer a 125 gr head when the extra weight goes into strengthening the head itself. That's what the Sevr does. The 1.5 uses Titanium, whereas the 1.7 does not. Then the ferrule is extra thick with the 1.5 at 125gr, making it much stronger. The 1.7 only comes in 100 gr. If you do order any, remember to use my discount code; LUSKFIVE to get an extra $5 off.

      The Schwacker depends on some give value on the catch blades. This makes a softer internal opening of the primary blades. Plywood and bone don’t replicate skin and flesh.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures

      Yeah, that's what they say. I don't use plywood, but MDF. And I use a layer of rubber foam mat to simulate hide and soft tissue. Either way it broke.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only advantage of a top deploying head is if you're having to penetrate a tough hide. Like on turkeys, with thick wing butts or tail feathers, a top deploying mech can enter a turkey more easily then open up and bring it down. Sometimes rear deploying heads have a harder time penetrating them. But I agree, I prefer rear deploying on anything except turkey.
