id like to apologize for this essay-ass comment in advance lol. but wow, what i wouldn't give to be part of this conversation live! 😆 i'm so glad i randomly happened upon this video (and subsequently, this channel). as a (midwestern) spiritual artist myself, i was laughing and agreeing alongside y'all.
i actually based my undergrad thesis off of creating a phenomenological relationship with the viewer and art. i've been so curious in pursing this space that allows the audience to interpret my work based on their own unique perspectives and experiences that they bring to my work. i wish this conversational partnership between artist, work, and viewer were more normalized. i was sick of the traditional "i am the artist, and this is the meaning/response i elicit using a, b, c." - especially since the topics (like social norms and ethics that you guys mentioned), artists of this method tend to explore feel more shallow to me as well (or perhaps i should say spoon-fed). i always desired something more, and kind of thought i was a lesser artist bc of it. but i certainly don't think art shouldn't be so hierarchical.
2 years ago i actually did an automatic painting w my spirit guide. like lawrence, looking back on it now it has such a different meaning, despite still being able to recognize all the same symbols and remember how i once interpreted it. i also hate providing my interpretation to the viewer (at least at first), because i don't want to prime their experience or interpretation with it. and i love hearing what outsiders see and get out of my work - it's actually always been my favorite part! this is most likely bc i'm a post-visualize, and actually prefer to digest my ideas once they've already left my brain. this process of trying to stop myself from deciding what movements/decisions i make has definitely been humbling lol, but equally rewarding as it keeps me from getting too attached to the outcome.
anyway, what a lovely video! thank you so much for getting together to have this conversation. it was a beautiful listen. and if either of y'all - or any commenters who read this far (which, gee, you're wonderful haha) - have any reading recommendations for anything along these topics, please send them my way!

Great video. And great content on the channel. But as someone new here, is there a video where you give the story of that mask of yours? It's so intriguing.

What about commenting Roberto Ferri's art? His art is full of sigils and crazy stuff with a super breathtaking Caravaggio like style and use of lights
