peter j ..I could listen to him too, but for hours, if meant literally the repetition may tire. He supports the basics of Socialism as did Tony Benn and I was a convert all those years ago, however without Capitalism, Socialism will not work. The business of simply spending money that doesn’t belong to you, investing huge sums of money the country can ill afford and doesn’t have without beforehand producing wealth, that dirty word, profit and a financial downward spiral is the result.
Tony Benn, a great man, excellent speaker of basic common sense, I was fascinated as a young man but as I began to study economics and pay the mortgage at the same time, with interest rates in excess of 14% pa the light of Capitalism became brighter. I listened to Tony Benn in his latter years and remained a part convert, left leg in, right leg out resulting in a divided opinion, on the balance however the leaning can be likened to the Brexit Referendum, the scales marginally tipped.
Frank Skinner and his ilk are necessary, if only to create controversy and a constant irritation to whatever party is in control “at the time” and interesting speakers but unless the Labour Party produces a manifesto that can produce wealth before they decide to invest in social luxuries, some may say necessities, unfortunately their schemes simply won’t work, in my opinion.
Our Mr Corbin, promised the earth at the last election, to students for instance but when questioned it turned out to be simply a sod of grass on a shovel, not quite the same thing but misleading anyhow.
Frank Skinner, a truly great well meaning individual, an orator that commands your attention and to be admired; long may he continue to speak the truth as he sees it and be a total pain in the butt to many of those useless leaches sat on both sides of the House, spouting excrement and submitting claims they are unable to justify. ( not just their expenses.)
I wish the man and everyone taking the time out to read this dribble a peaceful and joyous Christmas and look forward to more of Mr Skinner for many years.

Wasn’t this” honourable” man discovered sneaking out of Parliament to engage in an adulterous affair? The truth is that the left of the Labour Party has always resisted a Union with Europe due to fear of loosing personal power as proven by his own comments in this video, and their fear of being held to account by a broader base than their own, allied to a deliberate mis-interpretation of the construct of the eu. Also love his almost total lack of understanding of the reality of economics and the legal matrix the country lies within. The geographical and demographic split between views has actually changed since 1975 in that the working class has become more right wing in its views.

      Hi Mr Kerslake.
But in terms of trading, we hold the whip-hand & it's a damned big whip.
We should be saying "Hold it Baby.. Do YOU want to trade with US...BMW, VW, CITRÖN, PEUGEOT, MERCEDES,
French/Italian Dairy, Wine. EU Tourism? There must be more left off my list, than on it!
They've already shot themselves in the foot by this £6-7 quid entry permit. That's a tantamount to tariff on tourism already!
I reckon we could produce a lot of excess stomach acid across Europe's Board Rooms.
What a corrupt mess it is!
Hungary, Italy, Greece, Holland...more are being coming very wobbly Dominoes.
Before long they won't have enough slush fund for all the MEPs so that'll produce even further dissatisfaction-runaway.
Hard Brexit would give that tiny push needed and "up yours for £39Billion" would tilt the domino board to accelerate matters.
Irish border? WE don't want any control...You do, Commissioners! You sort it out!
How do they handle border control between East European members and what ever it is on t'other side?
1st step ...? Easy...Eire OUT. Solve the border problem at a stroke!
We don't want to leave The Common Market. That rug was pulled out years ago. Whilst we were struggling to get up again, we were co-opted to something else without our approval.
That is what we want to leave. The old 'terms and conditions' for a defunct club, like "Forward Expenditure" can't apply.
Whistle Dixie for your £39 Billion whilst we calculate what YOU OWE US for misrepresentation. Bit like PPI.

Same with Maggie, actually. With her, at least you knew where you stood! Heath/Jenkin's of the old school, i really couldn't stand. Today?? The list is just a never ending field of hopelessness. For me, it doesn't really matter which side you're on, as long as you're straight, decent and principled and truly believe in what you believe in, irrespective of whether i believe in it or not. I see a couple of examples of hope from both sides (less so from Labour), but to be honest, long, long ago gave up in believing in most of our politicians.

Margaret Thatcher was probably the most effective and and smartest PM that I have witnessed in my lifetime however the standard of PM has just gone downhill ever since reaching rock bottom under Theresa May. To watch her "Dancing" last week just showed how things have changed.

@Maureen Smith. I am writing my comment on 26/9/2022 - more than 5 years after this interview; so I speak with hindsight and my own perception of events following the interview and Brexit referendum. I voted to leave and am a floating ( in GE ) voter with a conscience - so primarily on the side of the downtrodden. I no longer can support any Party and am, particularly, disgusted by the stance of Blairites.
Despite the leave movement winning we STILL do not have Brexit and, instead, have the continued refusal of successive remain govts.- which have been supported by Starmer's ( therefore, still, Blair's ) anti British actions - to properly implement the exit demanded by the majority in the UK. Our latest PM, Truss, now says that we need even more immigrants and more than three years of deliberate failure - actual encouragement and assistance for it - to control the daily invasion by illegal and legal migrants has seen the ' great offices ' of State occupied by ' barely British ' during those three years: children of immigrants.
It can ONLY be a deliberate policy!
Like Skinner, I have never changed my vote of 1971; a year in which immigration was NOT a large, public concern. I knew, then, that we were joining that which was intended to become the United States of Europe; under the control of Germany, supported by de Gaulle's France bribed by those who lost a war, but won the peace! Look at a map of the EU countries and you will see the entirety of those controlled by Germany during that conflict.
Also like Skinner I was not influenced in 2017 by the posture of Farage who manipulated the populace by using the bogeyman of ' they're coming to get you ' ( though it is plain enough now - they're in high government positions of power ); a fear encouraged by government ( and all parties AND Farage ): as we saw in the covid nonsense and now perpetuated by the ' energy and climate crises ': the new bogeymen along with the ' threat of nuclear war ' with a far from wise interference in the Ukraine stupidity.
I was confirmed in my beliefs of 1971 and had seen the extent to which THIS nation has been asset stripped
by the mad intentions of a very few extremely wealthy, to garner to themselves the entire wealth of the entire World. The James Bond film villains DO exist, but will not be defeated by a single superman with a ' licence to kill and between the opening and closing credits of a 90 minute piece of entertainment. It will take hundreds of years; by which time almost all in the World will be illiterate, able to communicate in language so debased and restricted that it will consist of little more than grunts and never understood slogans; dwelling in crowded boxes; requiring - as in mediaeval times - permission to leave their ' villages '; their illnesses treated - as they have been prior to 1948 - by family and the pharmacy quack.
We are already frighteningly close to this reality: only a few of our children are now taught grammar, logic, to write essays based on their own thoughts, to question anything affecting their own daily life and we are all forced to deny the physical evidence of our own eyes and are being told that we must say a man is a woman!
We have even - during the covid nonsense - accepted the ' yellow star ' mask, the restriction of movement without permission, rules ( NOT laws ) imposed in order to ensure we file in an orderly manner and without complaint in following the painted footsteps in shops, accepted being stopped by ' police ' who ' fine ' us for having the audacity to hope for a breath of fresh air or a takeaway coffee and sit on a public Park bench, accepted fake medications which damage rather than cure.
Above all, we have accepted that our ' masters ' - frequently NOT elected to such office - now have the right to determine the length of an individual's life span. OAP's are spoken of by many younger persons as " useless feeders and non-contributors ". 48,000 OAP's were deliberately sent to their deaths in uncaring ' care homes '.
Their deaths - it has been said - hastened by a life shortening drug bought by our then Health Minister in massive quantity and many forced against their will to accept the more than a little suspect ' vaccine and the even more suspect follow-up boosters.
The ever increasing control by the masters of the unthinking, stupid and unwilling to defend either neighbour or themselves, reached its zenith in Canada when those who protested lost jobs, access to their OWN savings and found themselves in gaol as, in fact, political prisoners. In the UK those in the NHS, and private ( totally untrained ) profiteering pharmacies, who contentedly administered the quite possibly poisonous were - when they were forced to take that which they previously gave to others or at least, by not speaking out encouraged - sacked. THAT is the ONLY good thing that came out of the entire madness. They deserved it! But I should point out that in the UK this did not affect Doctors - only those at the bottom end of the tree: most of whom did not actually do the administering.
Is there any hope at all at this time? My belief is none at all. It will take hundreds of years - but one day those at the very bottom of the pile WILL rise up and physically remove those at the top. It will cost them very little because their lives will not be worth anything anyway. They will win by sheer numbers.
And then the whole mad, mad carry -on will start all over again! I'm nearly into my 86th year. Unjabbed and although poor in wealth terms, I possess the spirit of my forebears who once faced the same issues and overcame them. I shall reject the nonsense, continue to make my own decisions, and when my end must come - I'll do it by my OWN hand; not by government insistence! Or anyone else.

We triggered article 50. I wish that would get through to that slime Blair and the rest of those crackpot liberal leftists.

Oldbikergit Unless you live in Bolsover or one of the few Labour constituencies with a principled MP, you should be voting Tory next election.

This MP is from a era when Labour MPs were Labour Mp's ,in touch with their voters ,Sir you are a credit to your voters

In the past I'd have voted for Labour as they had decent principled MP's like Benn, Gaitskell, Shore, Skinner and Field. Today it's Rees-Mogg, Farage, Leadsome, Davis. Democracy and Sovereignty are 2 sides of the same coin irrespective of party politics.

I'm not a labour supporter, never will be with the likes of Corbyn and Abbott about, but I have a lot of respect for Mr Skinner. Straight talking northerner like myself.

I'm very much a conservative through and through. That's my choice. Having said that it's a few Labour politicians that have shaped my views and who I think are absolute icons to modern British politics.
Tony Benn, Ian Paisley and this man.
    They spoke morality not agenda.

Absolute Legend. Very few principled people in Westminster, so they are bound to make a Balls over #Brexit.
