i bought a lightly used 2020 tundra with the 1794 trim. Not first Toyota at all but after watching Scotty and Doug's vid, made the choice easy. I love saying typical Toyota, starts right up. Wife looks at me
I had a ‘93 T-100, ‘95 T-100, 2000 Tundra, 2007 Tundra and now a 2020 Tundra… loved them all. Super reliable and well built 👍
I also had a 93 T-100. The only reason I don't still have it is we moved to Texas at the end of 2021 and it would have cost over $1000.00 to ship it.
This puts my mind at ease. So reluctant to sell my ‘02 for a newer one.
Myself also '03 Tundra bought used about 130,000 miles. Then 2009 brand new but it had a six but ran like a top. Then 2013 brand new has 252,000 miles has the smaller 8 engine. Have changed brakes and rotors and battery nothing else except regular oil changes. All were extended cabs and I will never buy another brand of truck. My 2013 will stay with me until she has to buried. Rides and shifts like she's brand new. I live in Louisiana so I don't have to deal with salt but nothing has been better than those vehicles. I have owned 5 Toyotas total. I also had a '06 and then a '10 Solara. Haven't owned any other type of vehicle since '03 Tundra. Can't say enough about them.
@michaelhill2416 which was your favorite? I am considering purchasing a Tundra for towing a light travel trailer (5,000 pounds max) a month or so annually. Those older pre-2007 Tundras, I really like the size…
@@richarde1355 Man, I don’t think anyone has ever asked me which one I liked the best. My 2020 Platinum 4x4 has the best looking paint IMO (Smoked Mesquite) of all my the trucks I’ve had, plus I’ve added aftermarket wheels and tires and the TRD dual exhaust so I’d say my current truck is my favorite. I do NOT like the 3rd generation Tundra, especially since they dropped the V8… I also think they are ugly and look cheap so I’m hoping my 2020 lasts me a very long time!!
I still think it's a mistake for them to stop making The V-8 Engine!!!!
I have purchased over $500k in new Toyota trucks over the last 8 years. I will never buy another one. I am looking at the dodge trx or an international 600 series.

Don't think I'll ever get rid of my 2013. Such a well built vehicle, definitely the best truck I've ever had.
170k miles and still runs and drives like a dream

Right there with you, I've got 223k on my 2015, and i'm about to put another 1500 on it this weekend for a road trip.
I have a 2012 298540 miles still runs great.
Love my 2013 as well. Only 82k miles so just broke in
I am thoroughly convinced that a decently built well-maintained paid for vehicle is 10 times better than one that has monthly payments that outlast a shaky warranty.
I have a 2011 Accord with 211k miles. Tranny fluid changed twice. Always oil changed. Regular maintenance and never rebuilt engine or tranny. Ac system original. These cars are better than what they’re making today
@@Beasy63 I got an ‘07 Ford Focus with 200K miles, about 50K of which I put on since it was used. I change oil every 5,000 miles and replaced plugs and coil packs at 160K. But I’m curious if I should drain & replace trans fluid & filter. I suspect the original owner was on top of that, but I’m not sure. Good little car at an average of 32 mpg, cold air and a 6 disc stereo that sounds much better than it should.
My wife has an orange 09 honda fit 5 spd sport, never needed the warranty, has 204k on it now. It has a couple small recalls done when it was newer. We've barely needed to do anything besides maintenaance

@@ithinkaboutthings9052 As the gentleman above said, it depends on the condition of the fluid. If it’s never been changed, that can actually cause more issues in the tranny than leaving it alone at this point. I would check with a mechanic to see if it makes sense but if you do go ahead with it, always do just a drain and fill every 50k miles
It is sad to see the demise of the naturally aspirated V8. The UR engines (and UZ before them) were brilliant.
Had a coworker tell me she's super happy with her new GMC SUV with a 4 banger twin turbo....I feel bad for her ignorance.
Absolutely damn near bulletproof engines!
Same thing with the V6 2GR engines that Toyota/Lexus starting to drop now. Bulletproof workhorse engines that are being replaced by turbo charged 4-bangers.
I went with a naturally aspirated 5.0 instead of the ecoboost and that things burning oil. I should have kept my diesel.

I own that exact same truck. Had it since ‘11. Been commercial plowing snow (10 Drives) with it for four years. Still doesn’t have rattle or a whistle. Been construction worker for thirty years, and this is hand down the best truck I’ve ever owned. 160 K on it, and I’ve replaced one transfer case seal. BEST TRUCK EVER BUILT.
Just hit 208000 on my 2016 Tundra Off Road 4x4 (double cab). Zero issues, runs perfectly. Shooting for the 1M mile club.
Scotty is 100% right about these Tundras. I bought a one owner 2011 Tundra Limited (my first Toyota) six months ago in Alberta, Canada and drove it home to British Columbia. The truck has 291,000 kms (181,000 miles). I have a three inch folder full of dealer service receipts. The truck looks like it's only a few years old and drives like new. Best truck I've ever owned.

@@Nexus-6 glad to hear! I actually did pull the trigger. Got a 2013 with 180k miles and have drove that baby nearly 2k miles in one month. It runs great! I really hope she lasts til at least 500k

The problem with waiting to see how well the twin turbo v6 tundra's age is they'll be down to 3 cylinder hybrid trucks by the time the v6's age 😜

Engineering new stuff to last 10 or 20 years is not only nearly impossible (how can you possibly know what engineering issues will require solving if they don't appear for ten years?) Not to mention companies don't want stuff to last that long. They want you to buy new stuff every year
If not a 3 cylinder, I wouldn't be surprised to see a two. 🤣
I own a 2006 with 4.7 v8 with 249,125. Mostly trouble free. Never missed an oil change. Burns no oil.
I’ve got an 05 SR-5 (2WD)with 142k.
I’m the original owner and have never towed with it.
Cosmetically the clear coat is gone and the fabric on the inside of the front doors is pulling away from the window controls.
Mechanically it’s fine other than a P1445 code it throws in cold weather. It’s got the sealed trans and the fluid has never been changed (it’s always hunted a little on a slight uphill grade at freeway speed).
I filled the tank yesterday at $148 - it’s paid for and I don’t drive much.
I have an 05 with 101k miles. Bought it from a guy in Bakersfield so the paint is oxidized but the underbody has no rust. I built it out for overlanding and have been traveling the west with my dogs. Awesome truck. Wish they still made the tundra this size and kept the v8
I just bought a 2006 with 4.7 v8 in great condition. Got a fair deal considering the current market as well.
my 01 has 290,000, bought cheap but leaking and oil and overheating. flushed radiator put a new thermostat, put a new valve cover gasket, new axles and a leveling kit. this thing is a beast
2006 4wd SR5 V8 with 163K miles. Burns no oil. Only unexpected maintenance issues were a right rear wheel bearing and EVAP vent valve (turned out to be a bad wire). Love my Tundra!!!
I absolutely love my 2017 tundra crew max 4x4! Best truck I’ve ever owned! I’m hoping the get the bugs worked out of the new ones and realize they messed up and in a few years bring back the 5.7 as an extra option.
My brother-in-law loved his 2008 Tundra. We went over to his place last week and he had sold it because it wasn't worth paying for the gas at 12 mpg. I have a 97 T100. I only use it when I need a truck or deep snow. It gets 20 mpg so is still practical.

Bought my 2013 tundra for $12,000 almost 2 years ago.. The dealership recently tried to buy it back for $19,000. I don't care how much gas it takes. Way better that paying 50,000 for a new vehicle, or 60,000 plus for an electric truck.
Lol, it is worth it, with how reliable it is, a couple of breakdowns in his other vehicle will wipe away all the money he was saving

I have a 2006 Sequoia and a 2008 tundra. Back to back days of Scotty telling me how great my vehicles are!
Got an 04 4.7 with 255k miles. It was getting 19 mpg at 200k miles on the clock loaded with 2k lbs of cargo going from SD to SF in Ca. I have firestone airbags in it because I'm always loading with way more then it says I should. It runs like the Tundra here and I also ran it for over a decade quarts low on tranny fluid. I did put amsoil in it when I changed it at 90k miles though. Screw the 6 cylinders!

My 2011 has 243,000 miles and I finally replaced the plugs at 240K. Getting .8 more mpg so happy about that 14.4 average. Only had to replace the starter, the clock spring 2X, replaced timing belt 2X battery 2X. Every third or forth fill-up I’ll put some type of injector cleaner in but I change the brand each time. Normally Lucas, B-12 and I’ll try others as well.
I just bought a 2007 with 200k+, Bought it in Denver and brought it home to Pa., a 1400 mile test drive and the thing ran like a Singer sewing machine. Truck was super clean with zero rust. I had the truck undecoated with NH oil and had all the fluids changed. Looking for another 200K out of it..........P.S. I didn't realize I was buying a race car. It's really fast...
My last fillup at the pump in San Antonio TX on my '08 V8 base Tundra: 21.98MPG city driving. No, its not a 4X4 but I find this MPG acceptable. 19+ MPG measured at the pump is COMMON. About to hit 63K miles. I think it will last me awhile. Problems: Oil leak in engine bay noted at a routine check. Truck was JUST out of warranty but the service manager covered the $1,000 expense. And I have had to replace the alternator already. But solid truck.

@@enriquetellez3846 Just went on a trip from CT to Vermont about 500 miles give or take round trip all highway and got 16.7 mpg. I have a 2018 Tundra Sport. Love the truck BUT guys need to be aware if you live in a salt zone you need to check your front caliper pins they are prone to rust, corrode and seizer
I’ve gotten as good as 20.5 mpg on my 4x4 tundra. Highway only though
For anyone curious, the headlights on the truck are the morimoto XB led, highly recommend them, HUGE improvement over the stock headlights, but wait for black Friday when they are significantly discounted.

I drove a 1990 Toyota long bed pickup at work. Small truck with a great
Dohc V6. That thing had power for a 1/4 ton truck! Little hot rod. Transmission was automatic but being only 2wd I was suprised how well it did in snow
My coworker has a 2010, we live in Southern Ontario, Canada with plenty of salt and brine on the roads and my coworkers's truck has as little rust as this vehicle and is in mint condition. What a truck!
Ontario has the worlds largest salt mine for a reason. Keeps people buying over priced vehicles.

I'm a Ford guy an i love my 05 F150 that had 243k miles on it. But those Toyota Tundras are pretty solid trucks. That one looked brand new.

I'm not a fan of turbos on gas engines. I would get one on a diesel because those are a different animal that can take the extra pressure and internal stress no problem. If I had been on the engineering team at Toyota I would have recommended building an Old School straight six tuned for torque for the Tundra and Land Cruiser. It's simple so they wouldn't go for it. Now automakers want insanely complex.

I used to have an 03 Lexus GS 300 and it did have a straight six. So it’s not like Toyota didn’t have one to work with. I had a freeway drive through the mountains I would take and with the cruise control set it would never shift gears. Smooth and quiet as butter.
@@patton67 Yes, the 2JZ engine was bulletproof. But that no longer is valid with the more strict emissions. I have a 1UZ V8 on my SC400 and just put $100 in gas into it this morning.
I'm not either but there are mods that can make them reliable. A bigger oil cooler, lower temp thermostat with a tune to make it work, a draft tube or catch can, and some tricks to vent under hood temperature and they are OK.
Want almighty diesel TOYOTA just change nationality to Eastern world
My lighter weight 5.7L 2007 RCSB Tundra also has power up the wazoo, and it has over 305,000 miles on it... I may drive it up to Tennessee so you can check it out when you return from the coast.
About to get my 1st truck and wanted an honest review on the Tundra. This was exactly what I needed! I always preferred older models myself.
Had a 2016 SR5 Crewmax loved it! Now drive a 2021 Platinum Tundra! Nothing wrong with the 1st one the entire time I had it. And after my 1st year of ownership of the 21 Platinum still loving those V8s!
I have an 08 with 333,500+ miles. No issues other than having to replace the emission controls system this past January for $4500. I get 17/18 mpg with cold air box intake and Borla dual cat back exhaust.

I have a 2008 tundra limited Scotty and everything you said was spot on. I’m at 240k and no problems at all. Bought it new and it still runs the same as the day i drove it off the lot. I even put 40k miles on it in one year and no issues. Great trucks. And the fact that my house is 30 miles from the factory here in SA makes me even more proud 😂

I bought my 2006 SR5 new when gas was about the same price as it is today. I love my 4.0 6 cyl. Taken care of it with 150K and since I don't off-road or tow anything, has all the power I need. Paint still looks new and get a lot of compliments from strangers. I think these Tundra's are way underrated.

I have a well maintained 2010 tundra platinum. It's at 250,000 miles. I bought it at just over 42,000 and let me tell you, these last 208,000 miles I've put on have been a dream. I LOVE THIS TRUCK. Aside from tire care, everything has been bulletproof. I could drive 2000 miles to California tomorrow if I desired. It's built to last
My 2008 TRD Limited has 275000 miles and looks as good as this truck. I've never fixed or replaced anything, just tires, brakes and fluids. I clean my MAF sensor and throttle body once a year and still gets about 18 on highway

That truck is in beautiful shape, well taken care of. My 07 is getting pretty crusty around the edges up here in Maine but I mostly drive it in winter and plow my driveway with it so its bound to happen, even with an annual coating of Fluid Film.
We had an 07 now have a 16 tundra up here. Fluid film in the fall and the spring after washing the underneath. Can’t go wrong man!
No V6 will ever replace a V8 in anything. P.S. I hear you crow about Toyota (and I love mine) but I've had Ford F150's go 300,000 miles, too.
Scotty's always said the Ford trucks are pretty solid. Now the Chevy's? Not so much, lol.

@@michaelracicot233 most trucks are solid from what ive seen, its mostly which one you like better. Im a ram guy and i have 200k on one and it starts every day, i plan to run it to the ground.

2017 Sequoia here, has the exact same interior. They kept the same interior until 2018 then they finally got rid of the eyesore individual dash dials and went to a single integrated dash panel
I just bought a 2021 tundra crew max with 49k miles on it… 5.7L 4x4 TSS…. I already love it.
Absolutely love the V8 Tundra’s! However, as you said about Toyota, they’re awesome. The new Tundras will have some issues but I think Toyota will work them all out to leave us with a strong reliable truck in the future 🤞
It’s just not possible to make a twin turbo v6 in a full size as reliable as a NA V8

@@dcouture79 I couldn't find a 5.7, but my '18 4.6 is amazing! I have a blue extended cab with 22" rims and that V8 power feels oh so right.
I have had turbochargers. Never again! Our trucks will be worth alot of money in a few years, when everyone realizes the new V6 setup won't make it to 500k like ours will.
Between the guy who is jacked from years of natural gym training, or the guy who looks jacked by abusing his body with steroids, who will live longer? 🤔 Same with these engines.
I’m keeping my 2019 Tundra till The Wheels fall off… great truck!.. 2022 got some major bugs to fix before I even consider trading in.

I've always had old trucks. OBS Chevys. Squares. Even back to the 60's. Kinda got tired of working on them. Being old, they aren't loaded with all the stuff I'm still learning, in my 2018 1794 I just bought. What a great truck.
My friend was going to buy a Tundra with the smaller V8 to tow his boat and I just said "Why wouldn't you get the biggest engine you can if you're going to tow with it?" A week later he had the correct Tundra and he still drives it to this day. I bought a Sequoia platinum and I LOVE the air ride suspension and the big V8.

The first gen Tundra had a choice of v8 or v6. After the first gen it was v8 only. But I don't remember any Tundra being offered with a choice of v8 engines.

My friend has a 2013 Tundra with 340 k miles. He had the engine rebuilt at 250 k and then all struts and springs at 300 k. Has original trans and all other parts are original. He blasts the air 24/7 and it’s running like a beast still.
How much did he pay for the engine rebuild and struts and springs?
@@jtucker0822 I can ask on the engine but the suspension components were upgraded too so like 1700 at a local shop.
The amazing thing too, is a new tech accidentally out transmission fluid in the engine and it still worked after they flushed it replaced the fluid lol.

I have a 2009 Tundra, love it. I only drive a few thousand miles a yr. It has 236K miles. The bed has rusted but I’ll weld in patch panels, done. Love it
Got 20K trade in for my 2011 Double Cab Limited that I used to buy a 2020 Sequoia Platinum instead of new Tundra. Did not trust turbos.

Love my 20' Tundra but it's thirsty. Luckily I work from home.
I have a 2010 double cab 4x4 w/ 223k. I use it as my work truck and wouldn’t trade it for the world. It’s a great truck. Plenty of power to tow my 23’ boat to Nags Head and easily does 1k mile round trips to NYC monthly from central Va. I put leather seats in it by Olea Leather, touchscreen radio + 10” subs. Rancho quick lift shocks 33” tires and 5% tint all around. Most dependable truck I’ve ever owned !
I bought a tundra and a matrix brand new in 2012. Both are still running great. Hopefully going to be lasting another 10 years.

I agree with Scotty. The 5.7 would be my pick. Not into the 6 with a turbo. As for gas. Get a good a to b like a Toyota or used Honda Civic and save the truck for the weekend or hauling and towing.
Just about to be my setup, otw to the dealership today to get a 2011 5.7l v8 Toyota Tundra 160k miles for a work truck got a 15 Honda Accord 4cyl with 70k miles that’ll keep me from spending that dirty truck gas money

hey Scotty, I have a 2008 tundra sr5 with 227k on it. I installed a 3" stainless MBRP single catback exhaust and a K&N air filter, best of both worlds, great utility and performance like a sports car.

2018 Toyota Tundra 5.7L. My first truck and I'm loving it.
There's no way that Toyota couldn't have updated this engine and givin it better gas mileage and made it more efficient. All they were trying to do is copy forward when they launched the new tundra and quite honestly it's very disappointing and not surprising that they're having so many problems with the twin turbo V6 engines. 😔

I have a 2019 Tundra Crewmax Platinum loaded with all the goodies. It is paid off, is serviced regularly, and has had zero problems. It only has 92,000 kms on it and I will never get rid of it as it still looks and drives like new. The worst mileage I have ever had was 14mpg towing and the best was 27.8 mpg driving from Price, Utah to Phoenix, AZ in the spring. My average since new is 17.8 mpg. I love my truck.

Love my 2013 2nd gen Tundra! TRD offroad double cab with the TRD intake and upgraded exhaust and air bag rear suspension. Previous owner used it as a 5th wheel hauler so I've got the bigger mirrors and trailer brake controller. Currently have 107k miles on it. Probably will never sell it unless I find a 3rd gen crewmax platinum.

Yeah my only problem with the V8 Tundras are the fuel mileage which is no big deal and quite normal for a truck to have poor mileage it's a classic issue but other than that they're really good reliable trucks honestly like I own a 2009 tacoma and my dad owns a 2013 tundra limited trd off road package with pecan leather seats and that thing is nice. Those V8 tundras are some real monsters and more comfortable than an F150 if you ask me. Big huge leather seats. Heard they're really good for farming too I mean hell I have horses and it made me proud to see some equestrians haul their horses with tundras. Texas made pickup trucks that's what I like about them. But yeah I think I'm ready to upgrade to a tundra or F150 for the long haul. My Tacoma is cool but it ain't gonna pull my horses as confidently.
i came from a double cab long bed Tacoma to a 2020 Tundra and I couldn't believe how nice the turning radius was, thing feels nimble for a big vehicle. I love driving it

i used to talk crap on them being star war trucks lol but they grew onto me they’re really nice trucks over all compared to gm or dodge or ford. im a gm and ford guy myself but they are not doing it like toyota

@@CJColvin by the time an ecoboost reaches 150k you will have saved between $12-18,000 depending on fuel costs($3-5 a gallon). That’s enough to replace the entire drivetrain. Meanwhile the Ford is a lot more comfortable, better handling, more powerful, and higher load ratings.
There is no comparison between the tundra and an f150 as far as capabilities. If reliability is all you care about, remove the turbos from the v6 ecoboost and have it reprogrammed. You’ll get the same reliability at the expense of power and mpg, yet have a better truck.

@@joeshmoe8952 I've read that the transmission has awkward shift programming for fuel economy. Some people get a 'tune' so it can shift better. Best to test drive one yourself.

Last year, I sold my 2001 Tacoma Xtracab 4WD TRD V6. I loved that truck and it only had 90K trouble-free original miles. I bought a 2016 Tundra DoubleCab 4WD TRD V8 and love having the extra room for camping gear (and added driving comfort).

Have a 2016 with 75k. Probably last truck I'll own. Love the V8 so much we bought an LC500. I think we're done buying cars. Such a relief.
Lucas transmission conditioner helped my 2003 xerrra with almost 250,000 miles a lot! When really cold I would not have reverse, slowly as the truck warmed up would work again. Added Lucas and fixed the issue. A transmission mechanic told me it conditioned the clutch bands that had dried out. I
Very nice truck. Obviously very well maintained. I envy guys and girls who can afford the Tundra’s price tag. It’s a little out of my price range, but I’m very happy with my new CH-R. Still, I would love to own a Tundra. Its life span is probably triple than that of a GMC.

Depends on how it was taken care of, but some of the old GM trucks were great. There is a '90s era Sierra down my street which is pushing 500K miles. Plenty of old Yukons, Suburbans and Tahoes (all truck platforms) that have cleared 200K, 300K miles as well without much trouble.
@@PalkiaDialgaGiratina yeah Scotty says it’s the GM trucks built after the economic crisis that the quality really decreased. He’s had many great 90’s GM trucks on his channel, he says they are very solid trucks. But Squarebody Chev is pinnacle though for best GM truck.
Scotty what do you think if they kept the V8 and and made them Hybrid so you would still have the power when you needed it.
I bought a 2020 V8 Tindra a few weeks ago and I’m happy with it, I previously had a 2008 Tundra (4.7litre) which ran like a champ but I had to trade for a minivan as my youngest was due to be born.
Owned handful of toyotas over the years. Very little issues if any at all with any of them. I currently have a 19' trd pro tundra with a 5.7. I beat it up and it keeps on truckin' Love it. Cruisin steady on the highway i get like 26mpg going back and forth from Ca to Az

it cost me $130 to fill my tank. that will last me all month. I have owned my 2022 Tundra platinum 4 x 4 for 18 months and just rolled over 7,587 miles.

I've got the 2012 Tundra Platinum, excellent truck, with TRD supercharger, 152k miles and going strong like new. Looks like the owner did like I did and ripped those fugly OEM headlights out, threw them in the garbage and put some AlphaRex headlights in!

I just bought a 2021 Tundra with fewer than 10,000 miles on it. It is beautiful and rock solid. I pick it up tomorrow. This video validates my decision to go with the old school truck.

It sounds like the turbo waste gate issue is a thing of the past - there was a pretty small number affected in the first month or two, but nothing since. People just don’t want to let it die.
If you keep your tundra until you reach 400k miles you will need to replace the two turbos multiple times.

I have a 2010 like this this too. The back doors are bigger than a sliding door and I like that. The complete back window slides down like the old station wagon cars ,which is wonderful for backing up boats in the fog or night if you don't have a back up camera. My tundra has 293000 miles on it and pures like a kitten. Doesn't use oil or leaks any fluids . It even drives like a new truck. 😊 . As they used to say in the early 1970s. Keep on truckin .
The new Tundra's have more power, more Torque and more Towing capacity. in addition, the turbos are covered under the lifetime powertrain warranty. As long as you're not abusing the truck, they'll replace them.
Disclosure: I just bought a brand new 2022 Tundra so I am biased 😂
The turbos are also failing very early. And as Scotty says, "Whose lifetime?"

Didn’t know the 5.7 has a timing chain, I bet the starter is under the intake manifold.
I watch a lot of mechanic channels (though I don't have a mechanical bone in my body.) I saw a video on a 4.6 V8 take-down - the starter was under the intake manifold. The guy doing the work says the starter on the 5.7 is not under the intake manifold and commented that it's actually harder to reach.
All the UR V8 engines use timing chains. The 5.7 is the 3UR-FE
No. On the 5.7L starter its not under the intake manifold. It's next to the exhaust manifold. Not very accessible either but not as bad as the old 4.7L V8

My 07 tundra just passed 300k a couple of weeks ago. Still love this truck.
My 2010 Tundra Tundra (555,000 miles) transmission is beginning to slip, I replaced the L rear axle, bought 3 sets of new tires, two batteries, new alternator, it has more dents, dings in it than the Titantic. Its bern a great truck.
Scott, my brother in law owns three Toyota dealerships. I have had two Tundras. I still currently own a 2017 Limited. I love it. He is on me to trade it in on a new v6 Tundra. I told him Scotty says no way. My v8 drives just like it came off the show room floor. I have 134k miles! Love the channel!
Im looking at a 2017 SR5. (Irrelevant info) It only has 66,861 miles and asking $35k. I love the look and quality of a Tundra, but still hesistant on buying a "new" vehicle.
