I discovered your cookin' site about three weeks ago (during Covid19) & i'm totally hooked on your style & southern way. The valuable cookin' lessons that you were taught by your granny & mama (kindred hearts) are worth more than silver or gold.
Looks so good, especially with the light toasting of the potatoes on top 😋. Great idea with the potato peels too I would’ve never thought of that! ✅ For some reason I want to add mushrooms to this too, I’d add them to the beef mixture while cooking.
This looks awesome!!! Not sure if you know....you’re supposed to shake Worcestershire sauce really well before using it. There is sediment that needs to be shaken.
Technically, when made with beef it is called cottage pie. That being said, your presentation is fabulous! I've never thought of structuring mine like that. Love it.😋
I usually put my meat and gravy mixture on the bottom, then layer my vegetables, then mashed potatoes all over the top and cover them with shredded cheese. I like they way yours looks, I'll have to make mine like this next time.....Oh, and I love it when you sing a word or two when you're cooking, like " deeliishh "....lol
Definitely cheese on the top. I don't care for canned mixed veggies, so you can put any kind of canned veggies in it. I mix the canned veggies ( I use green beans and sometimes along with canned mushrooms) with the beef mixture and then put the potatoes on the top and cover with cheese. Basically the same idea but a bit of a different flavor profile. Like Tammy said make sure you add the liquid from the canned veggies or it will be too dry.
We grew up eating veggies and just love them. I have never made nor eaten Shepherds Pie. No reason. I like everything in it. I’m going to make a small one. This looks delicious.
I use tomatoe paste in my ground beef, seasoned with a little Italian seasoning, basil and parsley. It's pretty good that way too. I also layer my cottage pie. I've always been told that cottage pie is with beef and shepherd's pie is with lamb. Which makes sence because shepherds herd sheep and cattle were kept by the cottage. It's funny what you learn with age! Yikes, I'm getting old y'all!
We love shepherd's pie. I have to make mashed taters in a dutch oven. My 14 yr old with autism will only eat mashed potatoes or french fries when it comes to potatoes. Its a texture thing with him. He has to be in the mood for hashbrowns and they have to be done a certain way or he wont touch them. But he'll kill some shepherd's pie. My husband and kids wont eat it with veggies in it, they have to be on the side. I have a couple different recipes I rotate through, 1 has a mushroom gravy, 1 has a tomato paste and beef gravy, and then the basic beef brown gravy. My daughter loves when I put cream cheese and sour cream in the potatoes.
Here in the UK we call this pie a cottage pie (because it’s made with beef) and if we make it with lamb then it’s a shepherds pie! A good recipe and I will be trying it.
I have been thinking about making this! My Momma used to use the hamburger as the pie and then pot the potatoes and veggies in the pie shell( ground beef). However, I am liking your idea,Love You ALL💓
I've never actually made Shepherd's Pie, but I am definitely trying this recipe. It looks so yummy! @Tammy, how do you do it??? You honestly amaze me with so many different dishes. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us!! ♥
@@CollardValleyCooks thank you Ma'am! Saw your video on your website and hope you're in good health and hope you're staying safe .. love your cooking videos! Thank you!
Yum that looks so delicious Tammy! Could you use frozen vegetables instead of canned? I just have a big bag of frozen vegetables in the freezer. Thank you!
This looks delicious. The only thing I’m going to change is the way the potatoes are done. I will spread the potatoes completely covering the meat instead of a circle so it looks like a meringue pie.
Mine is in the oven now!! I put a can of green beans then a can of tomato soup on top of the burger. Mashed potatoes and shredded mozzarella on top of the soup!! Bake..
I make mine in a baked pie shell, meat veggie mixture, mashed potatoes, and shredded cheddar cheese on top, bake til firm and golden brown cheese melted
I made your shepherds pie for dinner tonight and it is delicious! A big hit with my husband. Thank you Tammy for the amazing recipes! Keep cookin like your mama! 😁 ❤️🙏🏻❤️

WOW! All I can say is “ kindred Hearts”. Think alike sometimes! Tonight, I was looking in freezer for something Delicious, and Easy to ship up. Behold, I saw a frozen Shepherds Pie, individual size. I didn’t want to cook; it’s been very hot out here today! Anyway, this particular brand is pretty good; but, my friend, not as good as Tammy’s Shepard pie! When it cools off out here, I’m going to surprise my hubby with this delicious dish! Be blessed y’all ❤️🙏🌈😇🌷
It's funny how we all have a special recipe that we've grown up with. My family only uses canned sweet baby peas. And our meat sauce sauce is kind of equivalent to a spaghetti sauce without the mushrooms. Just the mashed potatoes, peas and meat sauce. Yum 😋 I've seen others add cheese or use just green beans and carrots. I'd like yours too but I'm not fond of those chunks of potato in those mixed vegetables. Thanks for sharing a new version with me 🤤 Stay safe and God bless you & your family ❤ XOXO
Love shepherds pie! I am going to try this recipe this week end!! Looks so good!! I have a question. When I order random items on amazon not on your list, is it possible to give you credit? Trying to help the college fund!
Here in the UK, I would call this cottage pie and when I make it with lamb, shepherd's pie. Whichever one I make, I make my mash like yours...lots of butter and some sour cream...as I am a Southern gal. I've never put mashed potatoes in the bottom but it sure sounds good to me. That's my favorite part.

Making two of these today. One for each of my clients and your chicken tenders for the children. Got one child who will not eat mashed potatoes or anything that is mixed. *sigh*
Hey Tammy.... I don’t eat, nor have I ever eaten sour cream, mayo, salad dressing, etc.... you get the picture... actually, I’m 55 and I’ve never even bought sour cream... my husband loves mayo.. after almost 25 yrs of marriage, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve put that in the grocery buggy... anyway, can I use milk to replace the sc in this recipe, if so, how much would you suggest?
