    Nice job man! Just a little tip, installing components should be torqued from inside out to make sure it all stays flat. Just like a sticker where you start in the middle and work your way out in a cross pattern. And after setting the timing, always turn the crank 2 revolutions by hand to make sure valves and pistons don’t collide.

      @syrthdr09sybr34 2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Yeah, that oil pan installation was painful to watch.
      Although he's not using enough torque to really deform anything, those o-rings could get wrinkled up very easily and cause a leak.

    When tightening things like the oil pan, valve cover, and especially the cylinder head, you should start in the middle and work to the ends in a spiral pattern. If you tightening from the outside in any warp induced will be locked in instead of flattened out.

      I was unimpressed with the fact that it's only sohc. At first glance, the second (idler) pulley looks like an actual cam shaft. They should have just made it dohc, with the cams directly on top of the valve spring buckets. Maybe that can be a future job for Johnny!

    Man, my dad was a mechanic his whole life, he loved wrenching, he had to give it up a few years ago, because his health is deteriorating and it broke his heart, I would absolutely kill to have one of these, I would love to take this over to his house, sit down together, and build this, father and son! He would be so so so so overjoyed to just sit there and explain to me how each mechanism works, what a beautiful memory this would make. It damn near brings me to tears thinking about the look on his face as we fire this thing up for the first time.
    I wish I could afford something like this, because the memories of building it with my dad would be priceless!
    A word of advice for any younger people reading this comment, life moves so much faster that we realize, don't ever pass up the opportunity to spend good quality time with dad! I regret all those times I blew my dad off to play dumb ass video games and all the other bullshit I thought was more important at the time!

    This is actually a good way to learn about engines but on a much smaller scale...Now I'm not 100% sure about if every part is an exact replica of the "real" life size parts in cars we see everyday, but the fact it has all be downsized is convenient for teaching and learning the overall basics! Pretty darn cool I'd say!

    I can not believe the crankshaft is not supported by more than a bearing on each end! The crankshaft has got to be supported in between every cylinder or it will break. Inline 4 cylinder engines should have 5 main bearings and inline 6 cylinder engines require 7 mains. I hope Toyan builds an inline 6 someday.

    I love thing like this. I had this bmw straight 6 engine from a 98 316i. I have had it since a kid.
    My dad made this stand so I could have it in my bedroom and everyday I would strip it down and put it back together.
    When I moved out of my mums I couldn't take it with me as I moved into a flat on the 2nd floor with no lift.
    I love to work out how things work. Its the only thing I'm good at is fixing things.
    I would give anything to have that engine back but it's too heavy and I have just been diagnosed with MS so my hands are not plugged in properly.
    This looks like its prefect for me but out of my budget.

      There's plenty of RC cars out there that were built with that kind of mentality tho and it's not difficult to do, the reason you don't see that often, is because you need to be A. retired B. nuts and C. with decent pockets. The 3 aspects don''t often hit. It's like the triangle of choices.
