Just discovered your channel. What a pleasure to watch your video. I’am getting old 78 years(Ha) and don’t get out too much nowadays so I know I will enjoy your videos. I grew up near the train tracks at my grandparents home and the trains would put me to sleep at night. I so much miss those wonderful nights. I just love trains and the beautiful sound of them. Thanks so much.
I used to deliver freight to downtown Waycross out of Hazlehurst for Southeastern Freight Lines. Used to get hung up all the time at the Ossie Davis crossing, the one and Albany Ave and Nichols street. But eventually learned the schedules somewhat and where to be. Used to deliver to the Car shop and CSX docks all the time... my first few times in there was nerve racking, didn’t have a clue where I was going, or how to get there but eventually figured it out. And the funny thing was CSX and GE have socks that are right side by side. You could literally talk to the GE people from the CSX side, BUT CSX would not touch GE’s freight nor would GE touch CSX’s freight. My first cousin is also an engineer out of the Fitzgerald yard, his name is Jamie Ray Spivey if you ever meet him.
How to watch a Distant Signal video: 1. Make sure you are subscribed with notifications turned on. 2. The minute you get a notification, immediately stop all activities. 3. Find a place where you will be able to get the full Distant Signal experience without distractions. 4. Like the video, and watch!
I’m what some might call a railroad brat. My daddy worked in that rail yard for over 30 years until he had to retire because of his health. He loved the railroad and loved to take me out to the Rice Yard. I loved going out to the train yard with him. This brings back many memories. He also worked on the wrecker when they had to go to a train derailment. It was amazing to watch. I miss seeing all of that.
Waycross is a neat place. I went to Waycross about 15 years ago to look up some family ancestral information. My great grandfather worked for the railroad in the late 1800's. Sometimes before 1910 he took a job transfer with the railroad to Rocky Mount, NC where our families still live today. I have no living relatives in Waycross at this time, but found the resting place of several relatives in the local cemetery including 3 children which did not live past the age of 5. I really enjoyed that trip to Waycross, GA and would like to do it again.
CSX 8905? I saw that same locomotive in fostoria Ohio on my birthday May 26th of this year. It was brand-spanking-new and she looked great thank you Danny for getting this shot.
As an old brakeman on the former SP, thanks for the hard work you put in to entertain us. One of the aspects of your video's I enjoy is telling us about the lines that intersect [interlock], diverge, and converge, as well as naming what railroad it once was back in the day. With respect to the overpasses and how railroads back in the day let you know who it belonged to, time and the weather have pretty much made it a thing of the past.
I live in Waycross & this video just popped up on my feed. Reading the comments & never knew how many ppl were actually interested in trains. You'll never get bored in Waycross if you're a train lover, in fact you might grow to not like them as much cause they are forever in your way lol
Great video Danny, my wife was born in Waycross but she had no idea the train yard was so large.!btw I am presuming that Brunel St was named in honor of the great UK railway engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel
I'm so glad you got to show the Waycross and environs yard and hope you will have more soon. I live in Georgia and have been through Waycross, but did not know of the rail yard. The yard must be bigger than the entire town as I recall going through it. Thanks Danny. I'm a rail nut. One of my grandfathers worked for the old Alton line in Bloomington, Illinois and he used to walk me up the tracks to the Depot so we could watch the trains come through at the diamond right there. A cousin of my fathers saw us one time in Grad dad's back yard and invited us to ride on his switch engine. For a kid on that old engine was like heaven!
These are by far the best railman videos I have ever seen. Super footage, professional sound and excellent narration, I live way up in CN and CP country but thanks to Danny I have discovered Folkston, Plant City, Sanford and some FEC spots, and learned a lot about CSX history and operations. I have been making lists of other hotspots in Fl and Ga that I hope to visit once life returns to normal. Please keep up the great work and many thanks to you Danny from CL near Toronto
I was going to say something along the same lines, but I just figured I'd tag along to your superbly phrased comment! I'm also a fellow Canuck railfanning around Montreal... I often catch CN 326/327 with CSX power on my outings!
I live in Waycross, and let me tell you... the double track on Ossie Davis is the bane of my existence. It seems that it’s much easier to appreciate these locomotives when you aren’t at the mercy of their traffic.
I enjoy your videos very much. I have always been a fan of railroads sense I was little guy. I finds these videos a refreshing break from the doom and gloom of the real world
I love this. I live in Waycross and this was in my TH-cam recommendation and was really excited when I say that it has 100k views. I also love how he talked talk so positive about it, but everyone here hates the trains because they block traffic so much all the time haha
The fact that all of that engine storage at Rice Yard is "only a fraction" of CSX's roster is mind-blowing. And to imagine all of the other Class I railroads' and short lines' power and rolling stock-- just incredible how massive this industry is. Fantastic video!
Loved this one Danny! Especially that drone shot of the storage line. It’s so sad that most of those engines are in the retirement or scrap line. Really was the days when those things ran. Well all we can do is make the most of what we got now. You do for sure!
Thanks Dakota. It's funny about old engines. They always start out new and everyone hating them. When CSX was running those B36-7's on almost every freight, we hated them. Now they're treasures we travel hundreds of miles to see. It'll be the same with these heavy Tier 4 GE's they're running now. Those will become scare someday. Just hope it's not from an invasion of foreign built power. Ha!
Hi, I'm really hooked on watching your video's. I'm an Army Veteran. There's a lot of things that I physically can't do anymore but I can watch trains on my computer. Thanks for all you do!...........Dan SR
This is my first visit to your site. It's a first-class presentation. I'll be back. It was great to hear about the big yard and to see the heavy volume of traffic. I appreciate your your running commentary. Keep up the good work !!
I've seen many a railfan video. Your videos are not only informative, but also the quality of your videos are superb. Just enough narration with varied angles of pictures. Thanks for all of your time, effort and devotion.
Nicely done! I like that you are catching DPUs in your shots. I guess the days are gone when helper engines would wait at steep grades to push or pull consists over the grade. It's just neat to see a locomotive stuck in the middle of a train.
I’m not the biggest train fan in the world but I love your videos and really enjoy watching them. The way your videos are out together just has my attention all the way through! Take care and God bless sir!
Danny. Your living proof that railfanning is a real thing. I always enjoy your videos AND your overall attitude. You try to learn new things about what your doing, your not a "know it all" I hope you get to enjoy many more years of this. One of these days i hope to visit some of these hot spots you show.
I live in waycross. These trains will drive you absolutely crazy. Sometimes they stop and then start backing up. And if I decide to go around, it never fails to be gone by the time I get around. Still an excellent video though. Nice to know more about my daily aggravation lol
As an instructor for the Coastal Pines Technical college in Waycross, I teach part of the Railroad Technology Management Degree program and I appreciate you spotlighting our little town here in this video. Thank you and as a side note for you, the GE Locomotive side has been sold to Wabtec. Also, the precision railroading and COVID-19 has caused some recent layoffs at CSX.
Thanks for sharing!!! I am from Waycross and now live in FL. When I talk about our Rice Yard people go: "wait, what's a rice yard?" Here I thought, uneducated, that all of CSX yards were called rice yards🤦♀️ but it was just named after Thomas Rice.
I really enjoy your videos and watching them on my big screen makes it seem as if I'm right there with you ... but of course, that's not the case, and considering I live in London, Ontario, Canada, I don't get down your way very often so thanks so much for sharing your videos and knowledge about the traffic there.
Danny Harman still practice his broadcasting skills by making top quality railfanning videos. His railroad knowledge compliment his video to make a complete package.
Being a former resident of Jax, FL, I have made visits to Folkston and once to Waycross. I have not seen so much rail traffic as I had seen while there. I would frequent Phillips Hwy and St. Augustine Rd in Jax during the late afternoon, to catch all the southbound freights on the FEC. Folkston is an amazing place, really loved it there and I didn't get much time in Waycross, but while I was there, the action was hot and heavy. Thanks for the reminder, Danny.....gotten get back and make a visit!
👍🏽👍🏽🥰 I love watching Your rail-fan videos Danny. I cannot wait to go video our 4-lanes of shiny rails here is Kelso, Washington along our #I-5 corridor, we get a speeding train every 15 minutes on average. I was warned by my friends not to move to Kelso unless I liked the noisy train’s, and that was back in the 1990’s when we only had a single lane of track’s and our twin-drawbridge that blocked traffic whenever a train came from the north or south. Now Kelso has a new raised bridge and our tracks are 4-lanes wide & shiny!👍🏽❤️😎
I love these videos because I watch them and they remind me of my dad who passed on February 20th. He was a conductor for ACL, SCL, Seaboard system, and retired CSX out of Wilmington. He kept us fascinated with trains all our lives. We miss him so much.
To say the overview, of the motive power in that yard was impressive, would be a gross understatement. My jaw dropped when that scene came up. Another wonderful video to watch while enjoying my morning coffee. Keep up the great work Danny.
of course, you get a like,Danny.I have been a subscriber. For yeeears, and plan to stay as long as you keep making videos.I would like to go out with you someday.but that’s not likely since a stroke seven years ago, left me paralyzed on my left side, and bedridden. My wife has been wonderful, and is my primary caregiver. At,least ,I can enjoy.your outings vicariously through your videos. Thanks for the video.
You’re videos are awesome. You do a great explaining everything. I haven’t done any railfanning in Waycross but I go to Folkston and see trains in Jacksonville, FL where I live. Keep the videos coming.
Just bought a DJI Mavic Pro 2. Have a Mavic-mini I learned on...I love drones. Great to get a notification from Distant Signal...you are the best Danny!
Danny your videos are great, and I like your naration,I am an old Erie Lackawanna conductor that lived thru the Thanksgiving day wreck of 2ny100 at Windom Oh east of Kent terminal,I make it to Bradington Fl about every two years,I would like to meet you, have a safe day !
beauiful and knowledgable narration with a clearly spoken english. just like a national geografic or a History channel narrator. one of the best. emilio esteva from Puerto Rico.
Sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know a tool to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Bryce Vincenzo Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@@distantsignal I grew up down in Smith Creek on the Ochlockonee river about 9 miles from Lake Talquin yep the Langstons in Leon County are family. I hired out on the Seaboard Coast Line in Tallahassee in 1972 when I was a wee lad of 21 retired in 2011 after 39 year's.
What an outstanding, OUTSTANDING video!! I love the commentary and it's great to learn new things about the yard, the rail traffic and the signals. I thoroughly enjoyed this!!
Great videos Mr Harman . My daughter lives in Acworth every time we visit l make some time to see the trains. They never fail to amaze me. When we return to England I’ve got your videos to give some great reminders of your railroad. Always interesting, and informative and well done. Thank you.
Thanks Dan .For those of us FAR from R/R. Love always Signal readings innevery one and all of that series...NO SIR ...its not your simple roady way traffic lights. Thanks Danny. Love those zoom in for 1.5 miles away and Coming Fast. Eye Candy .
Just discovered your channel. What a pleasure to watch your video. I’am getting old 78 years(Ha) and don’t get out too much nowadays so I know I will enjoy your videos. Clean video production, great voice-over. Thumbs up! Must put Waycross on my list of places to visit.

So true and make sure it is a room with a locked door so your siblings can't harass you during the video! LOL!
Got this notification as soon as I landed the jet tonight and couldn’t wait to get home to watch!
You forgot to add you need a coffee or beer and snacks..you need to watch twice, in case you missed something the first time.
Well, I guess that's true. :D
very well said my friend,.....
I saw 8905 last Thursday as a DPU on an intermodal running through middle TN, just north of Nashville. So cool how these engines move so far so quick.
I’m what some might call a railroad brat. My daddy worked in that rail yard for over 30 years until he had to retire because of his health. Jesus all those stored engines
The sight of so many makes me winded
Waycross is our Main, Main repair yard. So anything new comes into there. Anything about to be scraped is there and anything for repair is in there.
Yeah, it's sad seeing all those older units sitting there rotting away :( Hopefully as business picks up some of them will see life again :)
Railfan1981 Yeah sad to see the amount of rust on them.
ewing hunter harrisons fault
Keep glorifying these robber barons that are killing good middle class jobs.
great train show video sir

No exaggeration, that Rice yard is simply enormous!
I’m 15 and always love watching you older rail fans because you guys know so much and explain so much to make it intery

MrClawrence Ditto your comments. Distant Signal is the best railfanning site on TH-cam.
Canadian brothers! But ditto about his railfanning videos.
I’m in the Norfolk southern and csx country
As a resident of the Waycross/Blackshear community, this an excellent video. Take care and have a blessed week ahead and stay safe on your travels.
Me too

Thank you kindly!

Got caught yesterday on the way to work on the plant Ave Morningside Dr crossing. There was some hate.
I live in waycross ga
No way! What's up Nicholas!

UP has something like 6500 locos, ~4300 are active as of late april and a report to the STB.
I live in the East Tennessee I love watching csx in my back yard
Kingsport or the old Erwin yard? I've worked in both.
10/10 for the Drone footage, great seeing what the yard are like right now and the locos stored
Loved this one Danny! Especially that drone shot of the storage line. It’s so sad that most of those engines are in the retirement or scrap line. Really was the days when those things ran. Well all we can do is make the most of what we got now. You do for sure!

Wow! That's a very nice compliment, Greg. Thanks!

Holy $*** my jaw dropped when I saw all of those parked locomotives. This is now on my radar to fly over and picture!
Great show. I've only begun to watch your show . Im learning a lot. Thank you
Another great video Danny. Been hearing your unmistakable pipes on TV quite a lot lately. You are truly gifted.
Thank's Danny, another very nice show.

Thank YOU, Army! It's gratifying to hear from anyone who's served our country.... and enjoys my videos.
Ive watched several of your videos and the narration is always spectacular!!!
This is my first visit to your site. It's a first-class presentation. I'll be back. It was great to hear about the big yard and to see the heavy volume of traffic. I appreciate your your running commentary. Keep up the good work !!

Of all the railroad videos I’ve seen these are the best. Very informative. I feel like I’m there doing my own video.
I was browsing randomish videos and just found this. Very engaging :)
Just like counting sheep . Best story telling. Thanks Danny.
Great voice modulation and orientation detail for an otherwise bewildered chartered surveyor in Norwich UK.
Hey Danny - congrats on the premiere of this new episode. 750+ live viewers to premiere -- you are loved my friend!
Very nice video! I love seeing all the CSX engines in the yard. Please shoot more of that next time you are there. God bless.
Wow!! This was great!!!!! And that engine yard was massive!!!!!
I’m not the biggest train fan in the world but I love your videos and really enjoy watching them. The way your videos are out together just has my attention all the way through! Take care and God bless sir!
That's a nice compliment, Tractor Man. Thanks!
Liking all the new titles and graphics. Nice work Danny!
I live in Waycross and I can confirm there are always trains blocking the tracks 😂
Danny. Your living proof that railfanning is a real thing. I always enjoy your videos AND your overall attitude. You try to learn new things about what your doing, your not a "know it all"
I hope you get to enjoy many more years of this.
One of these days i hope to visit some of these hot spots you show.
Wow! A great railfanning video. And only a one day excursion. I don't know what it is about railroads, but I enjoying Danny's videos. Thanks Danny.
I model the mid-80s ... but your videos make me want to model CSX and today's railroads! Great videos! Keep 'em coming.
Glad you like them!
Excellent video as usual Danny. Thank you from California!!
danny harman is the best
I know right! He does an OUTSTANDING JOB!
You can say that again!
Danny when they run dpu s ic there a engineer's in the unit or automatically. ??
I agree
I agree with that
I live in waycross. These trains will drive you absolutely crazy. Sometimes they stop and then start backing up. And if I decide to go around, it never fails to be gone by the time I get around. Still an excellent video though. Nice to know more about my daily aggravation lol
I appreciate you showing those of us who are new to railfanning good places to go!

I love watching Your rail-fan videos Danny.

Railways really matter there, I think. Thank you for that particularly interesting demonstration.
To say the overview, of the motive power in that yard was impressive, would be a gross understatement. My jaw dropped when that scene came up. Another wonderful video to watch while enjoying my morning coffee. Keep up the great work Danny.
Fantastic Video! When i went to Waycross this past March the Action was literally non-stop at the time of day we visited. Will also be back very soon.
I like the train traffic going through towns. I never even thought about train traffic until i came across Danny Harmon.. Now im hooked.

How do you know Mike from virtual railfan
Sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know a tool to log back into an Instagram account??
I somehow lost my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Miller Moshe Instablaster :)
@Bryce Vincenzo Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Great video Danny. Keep doing what you love rail fanning. Big up from Jamaica
Great video Danny I worked at Waycross from 1978 till 1988 when I returned to Tallahassee it was a great place to work.
Thanks Ricky. Are you one of the Tallahassee Langstons? That was a big family name when I lived there as a kid in the 60's and 70's
I transferred to Waycross in 1978 for 10 year's before returning to Tallahassee in 1988.
What an outstanding, OUTSTANDING video!! I love the commentary and it's great to learn new things about the yard, the rail traffic and the signals. I thoroughly enjoyed this!!
