Although I am not a pilot, your common sense approach concerning a "bad judgment chain" and allowing stressors to stack up is great advice for me in my life. Thanks!

Insightful commentary. I think tiredness is maybe the biggest killer. It's the cornerstone for that bad judgment chain, isn't it. He's up late writing a business plan, stressed about his marriage, physically in pain, and insufficient sleep means he's not thinking clearly when he decides to make that flight. Such a damn shame someone wasn't there to talk him out of it.

I had planned a VFR flight from Bridgeport to Concord,NH that afternoon. As a then VFR pilot, I rented a car and drove. Couldn't believe what I saw on TV the next morning.

I am reading the Kennedy Heirs. Fascinating book about how all of the Kennedy's were risk takers. I.E I believe Micahels poor judgement with skiing down the hill playing football with his cousin when he crashed into a tree and died was a horrible risk. Also mentioned in the book was how John jr was not very thorough with anything. I was a F/A for 31 years. I never took short cuts with doing my pre-flight check. Enjoyed your video. Also, my husband and I lived in Belvedere for 19 years and still belong to the SF yacht club. Beautiful area....although we live in Boise now and LOVE it.

Should have covered spatial disorientation. Based on sols hours, specific aircraft flight hours, etc would it have been easy for JFK Jr to experience spatial disorientation?

Spatial disorientation can get anyone and it happens so fast.

It seems to me that the majority of plane crashes are due to pilot error.

I lived in Livermore for 4 months back in 2001 - that's all my finances could handle, HAHAHA! Took the motorcycle all around Frisco, and the Golden Gate, rode through Sausalito, and Mill Valley, and all the way south to San Luis Obispo on Hwy. 1 - absolutely stunning scenery for a guy that was born and raised in MA. Like another planet. Beautiful! Weather seemed to always be perfect, too. Enjoy your time out there, Kenny! 🍻 Anyway, I was living in Phoenix when JFK's plane went down. Being from MA, and seeing MA on the news out there was BIG - never forgot that incident since.
I never complained about the cost of living in MA after living in NoCal, however!! 😳 I ended up crashing the bike on a day that I said NO to riding ... but gave in to peer pressure (the first link in the chain ...). That'll teach me! That kept me out of work for a week - with no financial reserves, that was the end of my time out there. Got a nice scar on the right leg from that adventure, and 2 years later that incident made my first home purchase an absolute nightmare, thanks to unpaid medical debts. Lots of life's trials and errors can be used to keep yourself safe in aviation, no question about it! Glad those days are behind me. We've all got history that would probably make for a best selling novel ... 😉
Great stuff as always, Kenny. Been enjoying this series, even though I hold no pilot's licenses whatsoever.👍🍻

I remember it was very warm and humid but the weather didn't seem bad but he left at 8 pm when he planned to fly at 6pm. He should have canceled the flight and taken a car but Caroline's sister wanted to get a lift forcing him to fly.

After doing some research. Knowing what I know, which I admit isn't much. But with the fog descriptions, and reading about the "leans" spatial problems pilots get.
It seems he as spatially disoriented, no may day, no deacceleration on impact. He probably had no idea he was going down into a hill.

They never had a chance unfortunately. As you stated, too many mistakes were made that led to a horrifying end of three young lives. I'm so sorry that happened. You have to make smart decisions in life. You can't just hope it will work out.

JFK had two women in the plane, and he had the macho mentality of I have to act like I know what I’m doing.
Six pax were killed in a a twin engine plane the same way going to a dental conference in Florida from Mississippi. Lost both fuel pumps, and tried to make it to an airport too far away, and crashed. Regardless, when you lose manifold pressure in BOTH engines you put the damn thing down on a road, highway, or fiel whether you’re embarrassed or not. Hell Gary put the Rotorway in a cornfield! Wonder if he would have done that if he had a date in the passenger seat? Think about that. Ask him one day.

JFK Jr. Never ever flew without a flight instructor. He was flying a new plane and logging hours to re qualify for night vision clearance so there would be no reason for him to not have a flight instructor that night. After he got clearance from MVA to land at exactly 9:39 that night, when his plane didn't arrive, FAA protocol is to initiate search and rescue within 5 minutes.
They waited over 15 hours to search for his plane!

    • @gregoryfish936
      @gregoryfish936 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Ya, your right. He was still a student pilot, and like all unlicensed pilots he was always with an instructor. He flew with a broken ankle. He flew on a foggy night. He didn't even have his wife in the front seat to help work the pedals. What was he thinking? It must be the "Kennedy curse'" They all die from something other than in their bed of old age. Thanks Larry for commenting. @@toothbrush5190

    • @toothbrush5190

Gregory Fish 1st, he was not a student pilot, he was logging flight rule hours on his new plane. There fore there's every reason to believe that he had another pilot with him on that flight. HE NEVER FLEW WITHOUT ONE.
2nd, foggy night? You're wrong. Do some research. Yes it was foggy in NJ when he took off. Obviously he had no issues taking off as he contacted MVA tower at 9:39 at 2500 ft and 7 miles from landing. At that time there was NO cloud cover or fog. In fact those on the shore by his mothers home stated that the sky was clear and they clearly saw stars.
Please stop listening to the media when it comes to the Kennedy's being eliminated. The Kennedy curse is named Bush

Kenny, I can’t believe you’re still going strong with the Coffee with Kenny videos! I really appreciate the great content which makes a big difference when studying. I did have a question for you. I’m wondering how EMS pilots calculate fuel when you don’t know how far a site is, patient’s weight, and where you’re taking them until right before departure?
