    This is fantastic ensemble playing. So beautiful ; transparent lines , gorgeous shaping , rhythmic drive , impeccable musicianship displayed by these players.

    This just became my favorite iteration of this work. So many things happening at the same time from both pianos. The amazing conductor had the instrumentalist in her hands. To say I am blown away doesn't even scratch the surface. Extremely well done !

    This brilliant, energetic and dynamic performance makes me believe this is the best and perhaps the happiest piece Bach has ever written.

    Super rendition, flowed superbly as a result was light and at time tripping across the keys. Would like to hear it on the harpsichord.

    Sometimes we forget Bach composed for the piano among his fortitude of works, harpsichord and Baroque. Alas the piano was a new invention during his time on earth. This one for two pianos is pure delight and a treat. Like running your fingers lightly through the trees of Rivendell all day, as I am torn to hunt down the other 27 pieces before sundown, uplifting 🧙‍♂

    Il est certain qu'il faille y avoir une structure quasi organique dans ces œuvres de Bach pour que ces deux pianistes puissent ensemble les jouer par cœur .

    I did not know that Bach compose this piece for two pianos, as stated on the title, I thought it was for two Harpsichords. As far as my ignorance goes, Bach composed only two pieces for pianos (just coming on the horizon during is time).

    I've listened to many BWV 1061piano versions. Why listen to any other then these? Do they really need a conductor? I don't think so. Redundant.

    Why so stacatto? Please, play the piano like piano, don’t like harpsichord!

      You know pianos are also made for playing staccato sometimes, right?

      The 2nd movement is melodious and very legato.

      Because that’s what Bach probably intended it to sound like, it’s as easy as that. And if one decides to use another instrument than the one this magnificent piece was written for, one should try to come as close to the original sound as possible. Also, it was common for all different types of instruments in the baroque era to be played in that „staccato“ style. Even the strings are articulated in that manner, so why should the pianos not be?

    I don’t think the ploppy sound of the modern piano suits Bach at all. Why try to make the piano sound harpsichord-like by playing staccato?

    • @DrXtoph
      @DrXtoph ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have thought this myself, just as you say. What I've been taught, and will repeat, as it has informed my own humble opinion, is that what they're playing is non-legato, actually, not staccato. The absence of a sustain pedal in Bach's time put composers in a different mindset - when you play Debussy, Chopin, or Beethoven, there are actual markings for a sustain pedal in the notes. Using a sustain, from a purist's interpretation, is unfaithful to Bach's manner of writing, but using a piano would not be, as he availed himself of every instrument around and would certainly have written music for the piano if it had existed then. Also, musicians need to eat - people generally listen to a lot more piano than harpsichord, and certainly more of us play the piano as well... Food for thought.

    Why do pianists play Bach in a semi-staccato manner? The piano is a vast improvement over the harpsichord, so why try to emulate an instrument that's outdated and virtually no plays anymore.

      Bachs music is so wonderful, it sounds great played on almost every instrument in a miriad of styles. Bach wrote very few indications on how to perform his music. I think he knew every instrument has its particular characteristics and its musicians task and creativity to play it according the music needs it.
