    Thanks so much for posting this video! Just installed a new Chamberlain B2401 on a door that never had an opener. Everything works great but I wanted to add a 2nd wall button next to the door. I was hesitant to try an "old-fashioned" door bell button and was guessing it would be difficult to find an answer. But, low & behold, there was your video showing me EXACTLY what I needed to know. Thanks!

    This didn't actually show how to set up a second button. It only showed how to replace an existing second button.

    The reason the old push buttons don’t work anymore is because Chamberlain made their openers stop working on short-to-operate. Basically, your old green button, or any wired doorbell button, shorts the 2 wires together when you press the button. Sometimes when the installer or homeowner would run the push button wires to the opener, they’d pinch the wiring too tight with the staple and cause an intermittent short, causing the door to run at random. This was Chamberlain’s solution, the new buttons are programmed to the machine and send some type of signal to the motor to run.
    As for your programming the wall button, when it’s first connected the light on the button flashes indicating the button isn’t paired. You need to press the ‘run’ button for about 2 seconds and the light should be solid. Then you’re ready to go.

      Is the "run" button the side button?

    • @NicksGarageDoorService
      @NicksGarageDoorService 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johnny7808 No I was referring to the main button that runs the door. Once you first power it up, the light will flash. Hold down the button you would normally press to run the door for a second or two, and the light turns on solid. After that it’s programmed and should work normally.

      IN ORDER TO GET BOTH BUTTONS WORKING:
      -Wire both buttons in to actual door opener.
      -Activate the new small one by pressing open/close.
      >“if big button does no longer lights up” fret not…
      >>Disconnect big button reconnect, it should turn on
      The directions are nonexistent.
      This is how I got both the large main button and the smaller to light up simultaneously. (special button that is no longer A simple door bell.)

    Darn, wish I had watched this last night before I installed my Chamberlin C2102. After seeing this I would have run my photo eye wires down the track. I just never thought of it and tacked it to the ceiling. They should tell you to do this in the instructions. What a great idea!. I was replacing an old Genie opener and was going to use the same door bell button and it didn't work.
    I ended up installing the button that came with it. All works fine. Looks like a well built and quiet chain drive unit that will last. thanks for the great video.

    Thanks for this. Exactly what I needed to know. I'm trying to add a Unifi Access card reader so I can allow users to use their phones to open my garage door. I've intercepted the button signal like your first button (card reader) that is a contact closure and nothing. been racking my brain... Great Video. Seems like a replacement opener is in order....

    Excellent, very helpful video. Especially enjoyed how your cat helped out! Thank you very much for the effort to solve the problem and taking time to post. I ran into this issue after installing a new Chamberlain B6713T. Disappointed that the old second doorbell switch didn't work but this new one is just fine, thanks also for other folks who commented about the security 2.0 standard. In response to some of the questions on programming, all I had to do was hit the light button and the switch once or twice and everything is communicating. Once again, great job and thank you!

      @@1960bond - I used the same one mentioned here, works as described and you'll be fine. A product review for that button, I wish the separate button that controls the light were more prominent- it's a little obscured on the right side. I am getting used to it.

    I can't get the 2nd button work. I have a chamberlain C2202. the LED is blinking. Tried every combination of pressing the light button, main button - nothing.
    the little manual that came with it said to press the main button 3 times to sync. That also did NOT work.
    The button is the 833LM per your video.
    thanks in advance

    So...you need to hit two separate buttons to get it to open/close? Or once you hit the light button once, it will always open/close after that?

    Anyone know if this will work as a second button for a Chamberlain C2202? Just installed it over the weekend (January 2022), and was surprised to find that you set up the phone app to control the door through the wall button --- not by directly pushing buttons on the lift unit itself. So the included wall button is vital to the system, not just a simple switch. I still want a second wall button for the front of my garage as seen in this video, but since the wall button the opener came with seems to be vital to controlling/connecting the wifi, would the SECOND button described in this video here mess all that up? Thanks!

    I have a device called a Tailwind which does not work with my B750 due to the proprietary nature of the B750 button control. Is there a way to have the wall control(same one as yours) to send a pulse to the opener? The Tailwind closes/opens the garage door by GPS and my phone. Paying for a MyQ subscription makes no sense.

    • @InsideAlexsToolbox
      @InsideAlexsToolbox 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What are you would have to do is disassemble one of these buttons and solder or connect two wires on each side of the actual button contacts on the inside of the button and connect those to your Tailwind and put the entire thing back together and it should work fine.

    I would pick another brand. The security is a joke and cost $ ro use it. You can not use old rail without tricks (save time), must have safety connected (more time and money for wire in my case) and no simple short to open (for security) BUT they put it on the internet via your Wifi and an app, really secure now. And the open button had to be swapped out. Just a pain for me, I am old and simple too.
