I enjoyed these two Mignon records immensely, and both present music I simply have never heard before.
Edsion records certainly were ahead of their time - at least as transfers! In the UK I never came across one Edison record as the gramophones of the time were of the traditional transverse vibrating groove type so Hill and Dale would not have worked on them. In the US the situation was probably different.
Back to the music, it is charming and it is a pity that such music has all but disappeared from either concerts or mainstream recording demands. As for the playing it immensely fine.
Thanks for educating still fresh sixty-two year old ears!
    Best wishes from George

@georgejohnson1498 Thanks George. I'm glad you enjoyed these. I'll be back to more conventional sources soon, but these Edisons are certainly interesting!

Fantastic! Thank you dear John, I love these orchestral selections from works that were popular in the 78 rpm era. And Sodero is still great.

@Piddo72 Thanks! This is a particularly good example. (I included the overture recorded 5 years earlier both out of interest and to show the enormous improvement in Edison orchestral discs in that time.)

The polonaise was often recorded and is featured in a scene in the "Life and Death of Colonel Blimp " 1943 where he mentions it as a "the only phonograph record we had in the block house" ( presumably 2nd Boer war ) and the tune precipitates a diplomatic incident and a duel with and German ex POW .

@waxworks9584 That use of the Polonaise had escaped me, but it was certainly popular. Judging by this selection and the one by the New Queen's Hall Light Orchestra, "Mignon" certainly contained some good tunes.
