    It locks the ammonia for safty up to 48 hours till you can change the water , for sadty of fish . It doesnt make it poof gone . So it does help for those who habe jobs and cant that day change water to lower the ammonia uptick

    First of all thank you. Your tanks are beautiful. My problem. The last time we changed water ( same way every time) our fish died. Too much nitrates because the tester API vile was purple. Still is, but I keep added a little bit of the prime you showed and the purple has been getting lighter over the last 4 day's. Still have 2 pleco's in tank. They are fine. I think. Should we just start our 20 gallon over? We haven't ever in 4 year's. How I wish you were here, but finally I found you! Help? Keep adding the Prime or drain it all? Thank you in advance!

    Wouldn't it kill all the beneficial bacterias in few second since you adding it later? Wouldn't it better to add into the tank first or separated container and water then add them to the tank?

      Yes

    • @DarikStone
      @DarikStone 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If adding tap directly into the tank, as demonstrated in this video, then yes. Personally, as soon as I've removed whatever percentage I've chosen to, I then add the prime. Do everything you need to, vacuum, filter clean, etc. Suck the water down, add the chemicals. The fish will be fine. Then add water back in to the tank. But before adding water back into tank, make sure to account for the serving size of chemicals needed for total volume of water being held in the tank, being that it's a direct tank fill and not a premix outside of tank before add..

    • @TheCupfulBoy
      @TheCupfulBoy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DarikStone "as soon as I've removed whatever percentage I've chosen to, I then add the prime. " why do you add prime before adding new water...and u added that prime then you do vacuum(shouldn't you do before sucking out old water?) and filter clean? wouldn't the prime just wasted on old tank water?

    • @DarikStone
      @DarikStone 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheCupfulBoy
      Sorry, yes I was trying to explain, that you would vacuum and clean filters if they need to be, then when water is at the volume that you choose it to be (most people choose to do 20-50% water change, whatever you can get away with, the better. Sometimes 80% water change can over stress the fish)
      Then you'd add your prime. If you choose to do a direct in-tank fill, then whatever the chemical calls for, for tank volume. If your are doing a premix outside of tank, then do the chemicals for that volume that you are replacing. Then add the premixed water.

    • @maci.valentine
      @maci.valentine ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn’t recommend doing straight tap water. Always pre mix/ check your temp before adding. A great way is to buy an extra tank that is the right percentage of what you are taking out. Make your water the night before with a heater in it. Test it and add to aquarium. You can you this same “water changer” machine set up with it as well.

    @Philip_smith88 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I usually treat a bunch of 5 gallon pails of tap water with seachem prime and usually use it 4 or 5 days after treating the pails. Do you think the water is good even tho I aged the water? I read something about prime only binds for 48 hours. What's your opinion?

    • @Speedy-bf1fy
      @Speedy-bf1fy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Prime removes all chlorine and chloramine forever but it detoxifies ammonia and nitrate for 48 hours. Also newly added water will still have chlorine in it though.

      If you are only adding 1 gallon at at time you only need a few drops (about 7-10). I usually fill the cap to the first thread line in the bottom of the cap for 1 gallon. But just now I am looking at a new bottle that I just bought and the threads on the caps are different. So I think just enough to fill the bottom of the cap is plenty, maybe a little less for each 1 gallon that you add

    • @DailyDeskTank
      @DailyDeskTank ปีที่แล้ว

      My bad, maybe less per gallon, some people farther down saying 2 drops per gallon I may have been overdosing, but that's why I'm here, trying to figure out for sure

  • @mafluttx

    Yeah - if I didn't know better i'd believe you. But you're adding in water before it's treated which is allowing chlorine into the tank aka killing all bene bacteria, and you can ONLY DO THIS method one time. On your initial fill. Always treat water before bringing it into your setup. Not after.

    What is not clear even on the bottle is whether to measure based on tank volume or amount of water being added during water change. I have a 55 bow-front with 3 goldies (ryukin, oranda and veiltail) which runs on a canister I service monthly, and I only change 5 gallons once a week using one capful (5 mils). Is that too much?

    • @008juggy
      @008juggy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are only changing 23 litres. So 1mm of prime would be acceptable. 👍
      5ml /1 cap full is for 200 litres..

    • @wabalaka1565

      I double dose base on the new water I put in. I do 40% wc so I dose 80% of the volume. Tbh, I think they intensionally make it unclear so u dose more and spend more money. If u have any idea about chemical reaction the speed does different that much when you have enough water moment.

    Not my fish tank but I’m taking care of them. There is a fish tank and it is evaporating and am getting to a low point. To add water. So I add water to a pitcher with matching temp and add the conditioner then pour into the tank? Or do I add matching temp tap water to the tank then add the conditioner?

    Hi Palmer, i am starting a new fishless tank with a sump filter. Say my tap water has some chlorine, do i use prime and get the chlorine down and then add stability the next day with my bio media and then add Ammonium chloride to do the cycle process? I am not sure if prime will slow down the cycle because i remember reading it somewhere not to use prime and stability together or something...

      Use 1 capful (5 mL) for each 200 L (50 US gallons) of new water. For smaller volumes, please note each cap thread is approximately 1 mL. May be added to aquarium directly, but better if added to new water first. If adding directly to aquarium, base dose on aquarium volume.
