Patti looks good! RIP James! Still one of the most underrated vocalists of all time, STILL! One of the most unique and powerful voices ever. Bless u man!
James Ingram is going to be missed by the whole world. His impact in the music industry and to people's lives just by listening to his songs makes the world a better place. Thank you James. We love you. Rest in peace.
I know he won all the big awards and such but still.....James Ingram is so underrated. One of the greatest voices of our time and an incredible songwriter.
He's far from underrated. There are hundreds of terrific singers who never get 1% of the kudos and exposure that James has received. Ingram has beaten the odds. One hit record is a RARITY in an industry where there is far more talent than jobs.
MechanicalAnimal Yes! I know exactly what YOU'RE saying, & FTR, I'm a singer, songwriter, actor w/o the work or kudos. James work AFTER "The Dude" = quite incredible indeed. He is The MALE Soul Singer - . Etc etc etc! I GET YOU. ~K
Rod Temperton wrote some absolutely killer tracks.... Many people wouldn't even know who he was .... He also wrote Thriller for Michael Jackson.... There you go ... Genius composer who worked with premium vocalists like Patti and James 💙
August 1973 -- I was headed into the Air Force and a buddy of mine had a going-away pool party for me. His sister's friend, named Patti, came and belted out a couple of songs a cappella. Strong!! Right near the diving board, lol!!! She wasn't all that well known at the time but I could tell she WOULD be! Hell of a send-off into the military!!! I stayed 23 years!! How many guys can say "Patti Austin sang at my going-away party!!"??? -- Retired MSgt, USAF.
I ❤this duet, them, Peabo Bryson,& Michael Macdonald!! This music 🎼 will never die or get old. Today my granddaughter was listening to songs that her father and uncles listened to with me growing up- Never thought I’d live to see this day, My great grandson I’ve turned into a Michael Jackson fan & he won’t shut up. He even like the Big Pay Back by the God Father of Soul, that’s being Blessed.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 4 generations and counting.
It is so sad to lose talent like Mr. Ingram's. Love his songs, they take me back to a beautiful time in my life. Thanks to TH-cam because we can always see him perform here. Rest in peace Mr. Ingram, you will be missed.
Still listening in 2021! James Ingram and Patti Austin were great. But ain't nobody gonna say something about those voices singing the background chorus? They sounded amazing!!
I loved this song when it came out in 1982? So beautiful, music today cannot hold a candle to this kind of music. RIP James Ingram, God only takes the BEST.
Love this!! How great to see you and James Ingram on this after all these years! You both look and sound WONDERFUL! I been a fan of yours for years Miss Patti!
Just came back to hear them again. I went to High School with Patti on Long Island and we were in chorus class and in musicals together. Even then, she was traveling all over the world, singing. Her dad was in the music industry and Quincy Jones, (RIP) was her godfather.
There is sadness in the world tonight !!! The greatest voice of the 1980s is silenced for now...His songs will live in our hearts forever ! There will never be another......Your songs touched our lives ,where we were, who we were dating, places we were at. RIP: James Ingram
Thanks JAMES for sharing your talent with us building us up and bringing us together with your beautiful messages in your songs. You will definitely be missed. Rest a little while until our heavenly father call you. And brother JAMES please answer. Until then rest in peace my precious one.🌷
This makes me cry my eyes out! One of the best duets ever by two of the best singers ever. So sorry James is gone. RIP James. Such a great talent, gone too soon.
James was an icon in the music industry. Another lost greatest singers in my time. Very rare now these days you’ll hear songs that mean something and tells a story.
"Baby, Come to Me" is a classic love ballad written by Rod Temperton (formerly of Heatwave) and sung in duet by Patti Austin and James Ingram. The original version, performed by Patti Austin and James Ingram (with Michael McDonald contributing background vocals), and produced by Quincy Jones, appears on Austin's 1981 album, Every Home Should Have One. When first released as a single, it charted on the Billboard Hot 100 for just 4 weeks from April 24 through May 15 - peaking at No. 73 on May 8th. It did, however, reach number 11 in the UK.
I can remember them playing this song on the soap opera General Hospital on most of the kissing scenes for Luke and Laura. If you know, then you know 🤗
Patti, you and James both look and sound fantastic, even after all these years. Nobody does it like you two! BRAVO! A little bird told me that the two of you may have a duet album coming.
James Ingram one of the most handsome, fine & talented artists EVER is now resting in peace! You have left your performances for us 2 enjoy! Thank you gorgeous James Ingram!! Patti you 2 were perfect together he clearly loved you like a sister which came across during interviews. RIP James!!!
Patti Austin doesn't fancy herself a pop star, but was one for that moment in time. Carl Anderson downplayed Friends and Lovers, his hit with Gloria Loring, in the same manner, as he considered himself a jazz singer more so than pop.
R.I.P James! Thank you for having you! This is the best published performance of "Baby come to me". @ Patty: Please never stop to sing! Your voice is the best from more and more artists who unfortunately passed away in the last years! Love you so much!
** tears*** Thank you James and Patti.I have been listening to this song from the 80's when I was just a child and still play it today.I have pass it down to my children age 21-11and 8 and I know they will pass it down to their children because they do love it.
I can watch this 100 times and never get tired of it. A world-class performance by two of the finest R+B singers that ever were. They are spot-on, WITHOUT the use of auto-tune or any other electronic gimmicks that today's "singers" need to stay on pitch. This is talent - PURE talent, a gift from Almighty God to them - and then to be shared with us. RIP James, you have made my world a much better place.
