Your son yawning as your explaining your passion for the Andersen Windows detailing, and how much you love them...... is priceless. Love the build, keep going on the detailing because I enjoy it.
Great call on getting John to help. Sometimes 'marketing reps' have absolutely no practical experience but John actually knew what end of the hammer to use!
That clip in the middle is an Anti-Bow clip which keeps the middle tight and the frame from bowing out in the middle. Casements can be finicky especially when the sashes are that wide. Lots of weight hanging off 2 pivot points. Casements take a bit more care and time than Double Hungs or even fixed casements. My 2 cents from over 23 years and several thousand window installs. Nice job!
OMG 15c+ feet off the ground andd picky about revel=CRAFTMENSHIP= thank you so much, so that detail. Kyle and Greg, as always impress by your standards
Those suction things gotta be messing with the sash, every window I seen with them on it didn't work properly, that's a ton of weight, most builders probably don't have them so it never was an issue... Been doing house sealing lately and you wouldn't believe the amount of windows that aren't installed properly, I agree test the windows when being installed, nothing worse then trying to seal a house and can't get half the windows to close and actually lock
I’ve been looking at my feed all weekend wondering when we were going to get something new. Big Blue gaining on Big Green. Great episode Kyle! Adds a lot of credibility showing problems and working through them. Not everything goes to plan!
Just a heads up on the fall hazard if the windows are open and pets or children are upstairs. Don't depend upon window screens to prevent it. Inlaws had a young child fall out a window pressing his face against the screen when it popped out.
I really have to say that those windows look amazing, and even though the pain you were in sucks, the gain of completing those windows makes your Mezz something everything worth it. Great job!
i feel your pain. i hope your feeling better by time this video comes out. it is tough to work like that when your hurting but you and Greg did a great job on those big windows. keep up the good work.
The windows are really stunning. That makes the outside look fantastic. Hope you get the issue with your back solved. I'm really enjoying this whole build. Thanks for the effort in audio / visual on each of them.
Kyle, episode 28 Q & A was superb. At some point, will you elaborate on how you improved your carpentry/building skills since 2013? You’ve been THE guy, so you haven’t had a master to essentially apprentice to as you did the work. Was your learning to Master level all trial and error, or did you study on off-work time? Videography is excellent and appreciated. Thanks, Michael. And Greg, what a terrific right hand man.
Im not a contractor, but I have a couple of suggestions to make theae easier in the future. First, mark your outside tape where the window is centered. Makes it much easier if you dont have someone inside. Second, raise the window up to the top of the rough opening. This allows the lower part to fo in without having to lift it. Just sideways to go in the rough opening. Gravity can be your friend.
Should try using an air wedge, it's a little bag with a hand pump you can use to lift the window frame or even push it left and right in the opening from the inside.
We used to use that blue wonder bar and pry a window side to side from the inside lower corner where the extension jambs meet at the bottom. It ain’t easy hanging them big windows with two guys , even with that lift. Great work guys.
I feel your pain Kyle, I injured the nerve in my wrist and every now and then I’ll do something that tweaks it again and there’s pain in my forearm and shoulder. The body doesn’t heal as well as we get older either, so look after the only one you’ve got!
I’m 45 minutes south of you guys and yes Christmas was like 55 degrees out and so was near years but just wait we got HAMMERED with snow the next few weeks after and I can’t wait to see the videos of the snow if there is any 😂
Cut at top the between the glass and the sash. Then close the window and put a shim in it. The adhesive should set up again. If not you may have to just pull the IGU and set it back in on a 2 side sticky tape. Make sure the top of the sash doesn’t bow when you stick it. Then charge Anderson 4hrs minimum per sash
With you guys carrying those windows horizontally and then stand them up will distort and twist the frames (due to their size). Also put some protection over the magni cage hand rail, won't scratch the windows then.
What kind of work pants are those? I love the attention to detail you have with the windows, even though there might be a few issues, i think the rep will have it fixed!
As a German, I'm constantly wondering why windows are lifted directly into the openings with glass and everything. We initially only align and fasten the frames in the opening. Once this is done, the window sashes are installed and proper function is ensured. this makes the work extremely easier. In addition, the windows that are required here as a minimum standard appear to be much more stable. including triple glazing. Is the standard in the USA just significantly lower or does it just seem that way to me?
I'm sitting here looking at two Andersen Renewal casements that get opened all the time in the spring and fall, and many days in the summer too. Not everyone opens their windows regularly, but it's good to know that they work dependably!
Just a thought, I wonder, when picking up the window with the suction devise may have caused the weird window reveal. All of the weight and cold temp may have done something. Probably when the window heats up in the sun it may go back to original. I could be completely way off base. Just a thought from the peanut gallery. Great as always video!
Had a similar situation with setting a 7ft Marvin picture window with a narrow double hung at each side, all mulled into one unit. Took three men and two children…and one Irish setter to lift it. Each double hung ended up slightly out of plane with the picture unit. Had to scribe the one piece CVGF sill extension to fit all three lites. Very fiddly.
Those are some beasts of some windows. I’ve sent some about that size and it would’ve been nice to have a third person and but at the end of your video I can completely understand you want to build this to show people I put in addition on my house that is absolutely off the hook. Could I build it today, I don’t really know physically no mentally I can do anything
I realise that this was filmed over a month ago, but I do hope your back has gotten better Kyle. Those kind of sudden movements can really mess things up. It happens to me all the time; I do something stupid and a few vertebrae lock up, along with half of the back muscles. Fortunately, it can be fixed. I can recommend visiting a licensed chiropractor. Monthly sessions has really helped me with locked up vertebrae, tight tendons and tense muscles. Keep up the good work! The HQ is going to be amazing!
I really doubt the grips caused the sash to bow in the middle. If lifting from the moving part of the window did anything, I bet it would cause the hinge side to rack up compared to the other side, making the top corner away from hinges, pinch like they originally suspected. But after doing appropriate shimming to remove the possible racking, the sash was still low, in the middle and not in a corner. I am very curious to see how the warranty replacement part for that sash looks next to the current part. Side by side comparison will prove John right or wrong on his later root cause assessment.
Where I live it's probably less than 10 days in the summer where we don't open the windows. Our humidity is very low and we have average nighttime lows that average low 50's. Even on those days where it's hot, we will likely open up at night and draw in the cool outside air and then pull the blinds to block the sun.
A tip i would try is take a cheap pool noodle cut it length wise so you can tape or ziptie it to the top rail of your bucket so you do not worry as much about it resting on the metal rail
With some large couches or recliners, the 2nd floor would be a great place to take a nap in the Fall/Wintertime with the warm sunshine coming in. May have to have some shades on the windows, to keep the sunshine at bay in the Summer. Just think how great this would feel right now, with your shoulder/back not feeling good?!?!
get some coconut oil for that neck/shoulder stinger. tablespoon before bed 14:30 a little lithium on the weatherstripping will allow the window to open/close better
Just watching this video and please bear in mind that I am not in the building business as we call it in the UK. I just do a bit of DIY, but I do enjoy your videos, when you say that the sash is slightly bent, could that be happening when you’re putting the suction on the window and you’re taking all of the weight of theframe and sashes through the suctions which are connected to the sashes so therefore you’re putting a lot of adverse pressure on the sashes that wouldn’t normally happen! I don’t know if that makes any sense
Wow, instructive. Thanks for the really honest content. Take care of that shoulder. If you start getting tingling from your tricep down to your pinkie finger on that side, it could be a cervical issue. Legit PT will help.
It's crazy how different the whole topic of windows is to e.g. germany. But man, I would love to work for some days or weeks with these two pros in the US.
The sash looks bowed. Common problem in many window brands. When assembled at the factory the sash was not checked over for straightness. I am guessing there is a stop on the interior that needs to be installed to hold the glass in the sash. Sometimes when they hit that in (perpendicular to the plane of the glass) it will push the sash out of straightness. The adhesive bonds and it is stitch that way. They should just send you a new sash. Also the grills could have been cut a little long and were forced in causing it to bow. Window installer for over 12 years. Common problem. Great videos and great work. Long time watcher, first time commenter!😊
You can def. see on window two that the top mull isn't flexing like your first one. Make Andersen swap that window, sash or mullion out. Best to get a whole brand new window.
A "living space" or man cave mezzanine. That mezzanine looks like it could fit a kickass loft style apartment with a bedroom/bath suite on one end and a kitchen by the steps on the other.
When you get hurt, heal it up, get it looked at, take a day or two to get better. Your in it for the long run, not just today. All of us who are older wish to hell we would have taken better care of our bodies. Word up Dude.
The one thing I feel you forgot to mention. These are wood windows with vinyl clad. You are installing them in winter. Vinyl expands and retract a lot .
You must live on a different planet to me. Only 10 days on the year with the windows open. Here in Queensland Australia we live with the wondows open day and night for most of the year.
Anyone else doing delicate stuff like this...get some of those foam pipe insulation tubes to put over the lift railing to help with not scratching stuff thats leaning agains the rails. that pipe insulation is really cheap compated to having millions of scratches.
How do you clean fixed windows or this ones that opens outward? With a ladder or a pressure washer from the ground? But yes, they look great, also from the inside, running from floor to ceiling! 🤔👍👍
Y'all remind me of me and my buddy building pole structures and finishing them out, just us 2... if y'all ever get one in AR and need someone to build it hit us up and we also may be willing to travel to help build we just like building...
so ive noticed yall put the siga wrap inside the framing which i do like and makes it very efficiency. Have y'all thought about putting the wrap in between the sheathing and the framing? With a casement window so close to the floor on a second story will that pass inspection? Just thinking about small children and pets having access to an open window. Great looking build !!
Oh no, a pipe up the bum when you were least expecting it! and It didn't even buy you a drink! A mate of mine years ago sat on a tyre valve during smoko and it pieced his perineum. Underrated comment. Andersen reps are incompetent 9.8 times out of 10
Glad to see your channel talks mostly about the work and not joking around much.

Those windows are amazing! Great job Greg!
Looking very nice guys! I'll bet you were really happy you got them installed before you got the snow!
Operating the windows before I finish install is a must
Windows make a huge difference in the look inside and out.
Unique way to get them in place
Great teamwork
I really have to say that those windows look amazing, and even though the pain you were in sucks, the gain of completing those windows makes your Mezz something everything worth it. Great job!

What an awesome mancave. Definitely high quality work.
I've been looking forward to this for days!
Glad your son showed up for that third window. Looks Great!

Andersen windows and doors are the best!
Those are beautiful Kyle. Great choice !
Man, I can’t wait to see this thing finished
Let's go👌never been more invested in a build than this 1
Let’s go
I’m 45 minutes south of you guys and yes Christmas was like 55 degrees out and so was near years but just wait we got HAMMERED with snow the next few weeks after and I can’t wait to see the videos of the snow if there is any 😂
Great job as always guys. 👍👍🏴🏴
Well done Kyle & Greg. 😁👍🏼
'cuz i did it.' 😐 hahaha mastered never doubted 👏
Well done 👏🏿. Well done ✔️

Those windows are beautiful. I would love to have exactly that model in my home.
Kyle great attention to detail, fussy, sometime painful like myself, lucky to have Greg.
What kind of work pants are those? I love the attention to detail you have with the windows, even though there might be a few issues, i think the rep will have it fixed!
Good morning to you all

Absolutely, lift all that from a sash
Thought the same thing.

Of course it did. The physics of the window is not made to have all that weight held by the glass

those are called hurrican clips/pins to stop the larger sashs from skaking/flexing in the middle in high winds and breaking the glass,,
huge of information in this video Thanks a lot
Nice to see people that give a damn especially in my area
Was cool meeting you guys at WOC today!
Heck yeah!!
Do you think using those vacuum grips, might have warpped the frame of the window when you picked it up?
Thought the same thing
Maybe not sure but worked out great in the end.
I really doubt the grips caused the sash to bow in the middle. I've seen the pile of I joists cut off. You can use them to possibly tie the I joists to make a firmer floor

Amazing job always
In joying the videos
I too, have nearly been gaped by my baker’s rack. There must be a pad that can top those open ends
Get it as great as you can now. In a year or two the foundation will settle and no matter how level tiles got it right now it’s gonna be awesome then.
Wow, instructive. Thanks for the really honest content. Take care of that shoulder. If you start getting tingling from your tricep down to your pinkie finger on that side, it could be a cervical issue. Legit PT will help.

wait til it gets warm. those will be even tighter............1 thing about andersen is they do stand behind there products

What I learned was more, narrower, windows. Looks great though!
A "living space" or man cave mezzanine. That mezzanine looks like it could fit a kickass loft style apartment with a bedroom/bath suite on one end and a kitchen by the steps on the other.
Nice Windows Kyle! 😃👍🏼👊🏼 .... Whenever I tweak my neck like that, I feel as if I'm wearing Michael Keaton's Batsuit.
For a tight neck or back ... I use an automobile buffer... press it to the tight area then turn it on... should help.. Just saying. Nice shop!!!
As much as i can say that magni is a absolute game changer but im gonna need to get those damn suction handle things.
Nice windows man
Pull the upper light out and re-set the IGU. I bet the setting block shifted during shipping easy fix

Did I just hear that you don't open windows?? Lol thats my favorite part about spring and fall or those random warm winter days.
so ive noticed yall put the siga wrap inside the framing which i do like and makes it very efficiency. Have y'all thought about putting the wrap in between the sheathing and the framing? I mainly think about all the holes i put in my walls and the things i hang up. not to mention how hard it would be to fix that air leak for bigger holes. cant find anything online about it.
Make those windows function like a doorway out onto a massive deck.
Kyle next time put a blanket over the rail for the window
Could you have used a steel I-Beam to get rid of all that extra framing from the 2nd story lookout so you can just lookout into the shop with a clear view?
I often had the same pain in my neck. Diclofenac sodium tablets help a lot.
Good morning 👍👌✌️🙏🙏
Anderson windows like nothing else for the quality!! I would be irritated if paid the premium they charge for there products.
I had vinyl windows installed on my a-frame and they have no tape installed anywhere on the sills. The windows have flanges on the outside that get nailed down. Builder said tape goes over the flanges and over the nails (but no tape over the bottom flanges). Every video I see online, tape is used on the sills. I hope mine will be fine......
In the 1980's, I was building motels and apartments. I paid $5/ window window installation crews that did nothing but hang windows. Level, plumb and centered.
Oh Kyle, build mine next!! 😎👍👍👍
Had it operated on, and had dressing changes for weeks....the home nurse would come around, he'd be spread eagled on his bed....getting his wound changed. You're a lucky boy Kyle! Love this series by the way, and the genuine banter between you and Greg.
I had a 16 ft by 84 in tall to install by my self . It was crazy
I was curious to see if you measured the deflection of the main girder after you put the weight of the framing and flooring on it?
Good luck nailing off a window here in Florida 😂
Man, I hate to say it but all of the US built windows seem to be lacking quality big time this past few years. Just wrapping up a build now that has Anderson E Series windows throughout and the workmanship and operation is garbage. Brand new windows and I've already had to replace some sashes. Seems commonplace that they replace sashes on brand new windows on a regular basis. Wish I had come across the Euro windows like SPI earlier. Pricing isn't much different than Anderson or Sierra Pacific.
But regardless, love the channel and the build. Keep up the good work!
Rookie mistake Kyle! 😂
Always check your perry before working on them. Give the rails a good shake on each side. I’ve known too many guys that got hurt by not checking them.
